It's nice to see an in depth discussion on blue moon's souls. Still, I’d generally disagree. I suppose it is arguable that blue moon is more even, but I don’t think the red sun lineup is that lacking outside search and roll and then search and roll are so comically broken both in main game and pvp that they kind of trivialize the need for other souls. Guts can deal a ton of damage with the right multihit chips, so he’s a powerful build around. Wind is a utility soul that rounds out the raw power of the others, with air shoes and north wind both getting you out of pvp jams especially. Then it doesn’t matter that blue moon has two solid chip access souls when search man has the strongest chip access mechanic in the series. Then his scope gun is insane in main game. And of course roll souls ability to full heal constantly is great in the main game and her chip breaking is torturous in pvp. Even elec is ok as a stunlock utility. Fire soul is the only real turd. The red sun souls are also generally very easy to fit into any folder. Most folders want some defensive chips, so search is a given. Then a lot of healing chips are * coded so it’s easy to fit one or two and roll soul doesn’t need more heal chips to work. Same with northwind * and windsoul not needing more wind chips. I even used some airshot * in the main game both as easy full syncrho tools and as ways to swap to windsoul on demand. Guts is a bit of an annoying build around admittedly, needing both crack chips and the payoff chips like Vulcan. Still, both Guts and Elec work on elementless chips, so the two can be built around together decently. In comparison, wood soul needs to be built around to get the healing value and otherwise it’s a niche defensive utility. Metal soul has a lot of power potential but it’s chip charging leaves quite an opening in pvp. Proto, other than perfect Var sword use, is rather niche as are most swords in general. Numbersoul is largely very poor man search soul as you just see far less chips for setting up combos. Junk soul has probably the most solid pvp utility with its startup effect and the recycling effect can be good on paper…but it’s very random and requires you to have already drawn and used a high value chip before. Then as far as ease of use, a lot more of blue moons souls are build around. Wood wants grass setters, aqua wants water chips, Proto wants swords, metal wants its chargeables. It’s hard to focus on multiple of those in the same folder effectively and they aren’t souls you can get tons of value from just by including one off chips. Then while + chips are something most people use, the good ones people use are like +30 or dblpoint and you don’t want to sacrifice those, while +10s and such are a bit questionable on their own. Junk also is quite a build around outside pvp as the confusion is much less meaningful and so you are leaning more on the charge shot to fire objects.
@@meowbahhyt Junk's double giga chip is a gimmick. You can get that but you can't set a Giga like that as your normal chip, and the blue moon souls suck at finding one specific chip. So 90% of fights you will never get to even assemble that combo. Then when you finally draw it you are more likely to draw anything else once several rounds have gone by. A 1/100 miracle jackpot isn't something worth considering. Junk's recycle in general is very gambly. It has potential for a big payoff if you (and your opponent) play a bunch of singular powerhouse chips and you get lucky. But it's easy to just get spare junk like another invis or something (or in pvp and enemy's combo piece like a super vulcan your opponent used for Guts soul that you can't combo off with).

Great job with analyzing Blue Moon’s souls. I love Proto Soul too! It’s one of my favorite souls to use in BN5! (I played Red Sun version of BN4, so BN5 is my first experience with the soul.) I have to say, I prefer how Double Souls work in BN5. Not only are the charged shots compatible with the Navi Customization, I think they have more notable ones useful for single player and are a lot more balance across both version. Seriously, Roll Soul was flat out annoying when used AGAINST you.

Since the delta emulator dropped on iOS I’m gonna finally finish MMBN 3 and try to get to 4, 5, and 6. I started off with 3 so I have no reason to go backwards lol
Really like the video. I would love if you did a ranking for best Chips and Souls for each game. As someone who enjoys the PVP I would love to know which game is optimal for each of the paired games.
I don't know the whole story, obviously, but from watching competitive tournaments it seems like BN6 is the best balanced for PVP, not just in general chip terms but also in terms of which version is better. Both Gregar and Falzar version are viable for BN6 PVP, though they have different styles. Falzar's Crosses are more utility-oriented (TenguCross lets you easily remove LifeAuras and ignore broken panels, DustCross' chip shuffling effects are just generally fantastic, even TomahawkCross is useful for the immunity to status conditions) while Gregar's are more damage focused (SlashCross and ElecCross both have punishingly powerful charge shots, and many of your Beast Out Chip Charge moves crack panels or do enough damage to break Life Aura). There are also different version-exclusive GigaChips, with Falzar relying on HubBatch (buffs all your stats and gives you the effects of a bunch of NaviCust programs, often used to free up your NaviCust to include gimmicky or otherwise niche tools) and MeteorKnuckle (safe damage, better if you can catch your opponent in a corner), while Gregar relies mostly on ColonelForce (can deal a crapton of damage and chain stun the enemy, especially when combined with GunDelSol - this combo is so well known that it's nicknamed "Gun Del Force" by the community). Hope that helped!
Why hasnt anyone moded BN4 or BN5 to have all 12 souls on 1 version I really really wish at the end of MMBN4 beginning of 5 he kept these souls as 5 is a direct sequel to 4. Then, when megaman turns evil midway through 5, he loses all the previous games' souls due to letting darkness courrpt him. So you get a debuff midway through the game but keep the 4 new souls you would have upto that point (Knight, Shadow, Magnet, Gyro) This would also fix the issue with megaman re harmonizing with numberman, protoman, and searchman.
@@sonicx945 you'll always get 3 on the first play through. Aqua is guaranteed, the other two are random (either Metal or Wood in the second tournament, and either Proto or Junk in the 3rd tournament)
@@ProtoDemnProductionsAnd what about the Other Souls? Are you able to get them all in the 2 playthrough? It’s gotta be possible because you can get them all in BN5 in 1 playthrough.
@@kolkagaming1234 Great question! Unfortunately, BN4 was designed in a way where the game's story is much shorter than the other games, but you're intended to play through the game 3 times. You get 3 souls in the "normal mode" playthrough, 2 souls in "hard mode", and 1 soul in "super hard mode". The souls you get after the first one are random but determined when you start the game BN4 is the only game in the series that has this new game plus style of play, and locks higher level viruses to new playthroughs as well, whereas BN5 locks those higher level viruses behind post-game doors
I disagree with that. Red Sun had good souls but you had to build around them more. Been revisiting Red Sun and Guts Soul is so underrated. Wind Soul is low-key my favorite because of the wind effect and Tornado is such a great chip. Been looking at old vids and the combos are so good. If anything Red Sun is more technical. Minus Search and Roll but even then their utility is so good you can just use them. But the other souls should not be slept on.
The only soul unison that Blue Moon has over Red Sun is Junk Soul. With mod cards, Perma junk soul becomes a massive behemoth; getting back 2 chips from either players folders to use as you will is absurdly broke. Outside of that, Red Sun is far superior to Blue Moon, PvP speaking that is.
Blue moon is superior for pvp due to junk soul being able to use giga chips twice the only thing red sun has over blue is wind soul being able to remove barriers and roll soul charge is easy to dodge
The Legacy Collection of the games came out on April 14th, so there's been a lot of MMBN content on youtube Theres also been people streaming them on twitch, including myself
Dude I played the bejeezus out of this and Falzaar. TOTALLY forgot Junkman was a thing. I remember I used to think he was garbage (lol) but now thinking about a time stopping 100 damage hold B… that’s really really nasty with a dedicated build. And Aqua Cross was my main one in Falzaar, I LOVED it. I could get by PvP fights with almost just the B spam since it was so fast and constantly interrupted and did 70(? with max atk?) per shot. Totally forgot how bad it was in Blue Moon comparatively. Oh and I wasn’t a fan of Proto Soul (in any game lol) but I had no idea it let sword moves skip the invincibility window after. Wood Soul insanely good. The healing was nuts. The hold B damage was nuts. Might’ve been my favorite in 4. You could just tank with decent setup. Hated Metal Soul. He was the last one I unlocked and the dude I was hoping we’d get from the first time I saw him… and I just hated him for some reason. I thought he was awful, guess I wasn’t using him right. Number Soul was decent. Loved the chips but it felt impossible to get a hold B off. People either easily dodge or just tank the hit if you aim for the middle
I feel like Red Sun's Souls tend to be better in online play while Blue Moon's Souls are more helpful during regular gameplay. I'm not much of a PvP type person though, so I'd probably rank Blue Moon's higher. If I had to place a reason on that assertion it would probably be down to what becomes kind of a trend with the Souls/Crosses in 4-6 where one version focuses more on utility(Sun, Colonel and Falzar) while the other focuses more on raw firepower(Moon, Protoman and Gregar).
I disagree doing a million damage with guts soul, perma stun with thunder soul, chip shuffle with search soul and the wind with wind soul are more useful for pve than the blue moon souls, esp since bn4 has no sword chips so the best bm soul proto soul is underutilized on bn4
@@ArikGenerick I see your points and understand where you’re coming from, however I find raw power to ease Single Player content more than utility does. Additionally I find your understanding of Blue Moon Souls to be somewhat lacking. Metal Soul is capable of just as much(if not more) damage output that Guts Soul if you run folders centered around both Souls(due to Metal Soul working better with damage + chips than Guts Soul does.) Using the strongest attack to amp for both, Inf.Vulcan as an example. Guts Soul grants a flat +30 in addition to any other chip boosts. Meanwhile Metal Soul doubles the power of the charged chip, meaning so long as you have an Atk+10 or higher in addition to your vulcans, Metal Soul will always do equal or greater damage. Edit: I lost track of when each PA was first introduced. InfVulcan isn't until 5. However the point still stands, if you can boost an attack's base power to 30+, Metal Soul will always hit equal to or harder than Guts Soul. Search Soul is arguably the most powerful Soul across either version(aside from maybe Roll Soul in PvP), however Blue Moon does have 2 Wind Soul has utility, but Proto Soul has the ability to charge Life Sword, Var.Sword or Cust Sword for double damage, lending it a raw power edge to simply let you storm through most normal enemies with ease and chunk down bosses very quickly, additionally while using Proto Soul Sword Chips don't make enemies hit gain I-Frames allowing you to combo enemies readily. This particular pairing perfectly exemplifies the split between versions in BN that I was talking about. Red Sun souls have more utility, but in terms of pure maximum firepower Blue Moon souls tend to have an edge.
@TotallyCluelessGamer again this is false the only breaking chip that does any damage is airhoc 3 and even then you can't boost it with double point and you don't even need metal soul since using 1 airhoc gives you fun synchro and you can use a second one at 2x faster than chip charging. Proto soul in 4 is horrible since the sword chips in 4 bar muramasa are ass 3 chips for 400 damage is horrible l, at least with guts sould you can use dbl point + supervulc to do 1200 damage since the boost are way better on multi hit than a 2x, he'll add atk + 30 and your doing 1560. Thunder soul can Para with null chips amd you can use gds 3 and ex, with those you can kill duo sp in like a turn and a half. And to be honest search man with 8 cust can almost get a guaranteed search of a brokem pa like pit hockey 3 and do 1800 damage for free. So idk where this blue moon souls do more damage meme came from because context of the game and chips matter more than just looking at the written abilities.
if I were to make a ranking based of my experience it'd be 1. Search 2. Num 3. Roll 4. Metal 5. Guts 6. Wind 7. Wood 8. Proto 9. Thunder 10. Fire 11. Junk 12. Aqua Red Sun has more gurenteed chip combos and utility compare Blue Moon which require resources and luck to use effectively barring Metal Soul.
I only played BlueMoon growing up and never got to experience 2 of them. I could never beat the final boss so I never got the NG+ to getting all 6. Tourney 1 I only ever got Aquasoul and tourney 2 I only ever got Woodsoul. Protosoul was definitely better than Junksoul, also because it allowed getting the undernet board as part of his scenario and overall less frustrating
Except for Mr Famous, I wouldnt call BN3 black/blue an upgrade. I feel BN4 is a splitted game. BN5 feels like a choice and BN6 are the only games that feel version heavy
Junk is widely considered one of the best, if not the best, double soul in Blue Moon due to the chip recycling ability, useful in both PvP and casual gameplay People say that Aqua is the worst because there arent many good aqua chips to charge for double damage, but I still think Aqua soul is really good despite that, especially in casual gameplay
@@ProtoDemnProductions I just never found a good use for Junk Soul, but I will say that it has 1 redeeming feature (which is something that either you didn't know about, or chose not to say) and that it lets you use Dark Chips without consequences.
Gotcha. When you get Thunder Soul you'll see the utility when combined with Guts Soul. Wind as well. You can use the sandring chip with Tornado on Wind and the damage is silly.
Woodsoul and junk soul are better due to fast heal on grass and reusing chips like Gigas. In pve all roll soul gives is 10% heal and 30 damage charge in which most bosses don't have chips
Missing the point of Roll Soul. It worked well because it's 10% PER chip. So in combo folders it was an emergency heal . Yes most enemies didn't have chips. But the ones that do made Roll Soul clutch. Because you can deny them from using an annoying chip. It was more so PvP focused but it has great PvE utility. It's just niche but it excels in that niche when applied properly. But I guess you can say that about any soul.
Blue moon souls are overall better for story mode Because this version has way more elements chips useful at charging attacks, just compare the Aqua with Guts soul in the early game, Aqua just makes much more damage and makes easier the virus busting that in Red Sun is much harder because of the low average damage you can deal even past mid game
In PvP yes, Roll Soul is among the best. But imo for casual play the Blue Moon souls are better Its interesting how PvP and casual play are completely different from each other in these games
@@BigBoyz33 then it doesn't matter which is better??? A casual playthrough doesn't care about "what's best" but uhhh chargeshot that *deletes entire hand of chips for hitting* is pretty busted at the top end

Mmbn3 pvp is peak with navicust and no time freeze counter
Why hasnt anyone moded BN4 or BN5 to have all 12 souls on 1 version
I really really wish at the end of MMBN4 beginning of 5 he kept these souls as 5 is a direct sequel to 4.
Then, when megaman turns evil midway through 5, he loses all the previous games' souls due to letting darkness courrpt him. So you get a debuff midway through the game but keep the 4 new souls you would have upto that point (Knight, Shadow, Magnet, Gyro)
This would also fix the issue with megaman re harmonizing with numberman, protoman, and searchman.
Which system is cooler in your guy's opinions, Style Change, DoubleSoul, or Cross System?
Cross in my opinion is taking the best attributes of Styles and Souls and combining them together, so I've always thought its the best system
I got Aqua, Wood, and Proto Soul in my first run of Blue Moon.
An excellent trio
@@ProtoDemnProductions Thanks but question is common on the first plaything? Getting 3 I mean?
The souls you get after the first one are random but determined when you start the game
BN4 is the only game in the series that has this new game plus style of play, and locks higher level viruses to new playthroughs as well, whereas BN5 locks those higher level viruses behind post-game doors
Commenting for engagement
Much appreciated :)
Do you have a patch card build for permanent junk soul?
I'm gonna start a blue moon play thru and that's what I want to use for bn4 pvp.
Is Battle Network making a resurgence? I started seeing videos on all my social medias out of nowhere
The Legacy Collection of the games came out on April 14th, so there's been a lot of MMBN content on youtube
Theres also been people streaming them on twitch, including myself
i wonder if modders could make a mix and match of double souls for single player
Are you kidding? Red sun souls are actually good in both single player and pvp alongside the giga chips.
Metal Soul is capable of just as much(if not more) damage output that Guts Soul if you run folders centered around both Souls(due to Metal Soul working better with damage + chips than Guts Soul does.)
Using the strongest attack to amp for both, Inf.Vulcan as an example.
Search Soul is arguably the most powerful Soul across either version(aside from maybe Roll Soul in PvP), however Blue Moon does have 2
Wind Soul has utility, but Proto Soul has the ability to charge Life Sword, Var.Sword or Cust Sword for double damage, lending it a raw power edge to simply let you storm through most normal enemies with ease and chunk down bosses very quickly, additionally while using Proto Soul Sword Chips don't make enemies hit gain I-Frames allowing you to combo enemies readily.
Blue moon souls is better in pvp and pve junk soul and 2 giga chips is so strong
I prefer Blue moon for Wood and Number soul
Idk. I think you're sleeping on guts soul. It gets crazy buffs on vulcan type chips also which can stack with ATK+ chips.
Full synchro emotion navicust gives more damage than it gives to chips. The b rapid is cool though
GutsSoul is pretty meh when compared to MetalSoul. But goddamn did the early game Vulcan spam carry me through battles.
In 4 my favorite was probably wood.
Guts soul is still the best one out of all of them in my opinion.
if I were to make a ranking based of my experience it'd be
1. Search
2. Num
3. Roll
4. Metal
5. Guts
6. Wind
7. Wood
8. Proto
9. Thunder
10. Fire
11. Junk
12. Aqua
Red Sun has more gurenteed chip combos and utility compare Blue Moon which require resources and luck to use effectively barring Metal Soul.
Nice
I only played BlueMoon growing up and never got to experience 2 of them. I could never beat the final boss so I never got the NG+ to getting all 6. Tourney 1 I only ever got Aquasoul and tourney 2 I only ever got Woodsoul. Protosoul was definitely better than Junksoul, also because it allowed getting the undernet board as part of his scenario and overall less frustrating
Protosoul was better in mmbn5 with moonblde. The stepsword charge can be hard to hit on moving opponents.
Search soul > every other soul / transformation
junk soul >search soul
Numbersoul custom 10 is better than search shuffle
Except for Mr Famous, I wouldnt call BN3 black/blue an upgrade. I feel BN4 is a splitted game. BN5 feels like a choice and BN6 are the only games that feel version heavy
Can you do the same video for battle network 5? Your analysis and comparison is the best compared to other vids out rn
I will indeed be doing videos for the BN5 double souls, as well as the BN6 Crosses!
What are you talking about? Junk Soul is the worst soul in Blue Moon, not Aqua Soul.
junk soul is actually good, Aqua Soul is weak in the endgame
Junk is widely considered one of the best, if not the best, double soul in Blue Moon due to the chip recycling ability, useful in both PvP and casual gameplay
People say that Aqua is the worst because there arent many good aqua chips to charge for double damage, but I still think Aqua soul is really good despite that, especially in casual gameplay
@@ProtoDemnProductions I just never found a good use for Junk Soul, but I will say that it has 1 redeeming feature (which is something that either you didn't know about, or chose not to say) and that it lets you use Dark Chips without consequences.
@@RagnarokAvatar I actually didn't know about it, so I'm really glad people have been mentioning it in the comments!
Metalsoul is the worst blue moon IMHO charge shot only goes 1 forward protosoul has a shield
Gutssoul, rollsoul, and searchsoul are the best souls in bn4 as a whole
Thunder Soul needs a mention. Literally sets up for Guys Soul. Also Wind Soul is amazing with the proper set up.
@@saitomitsurugi18 i only have the 3 souls
I bought both but never played both . I think I was so annoyed by 4 that I only played red lol
Blue moon has better souls for pve and pvp with wood soul fast heal on grass. Junk soul allows gigas chips to be used multiple times
Blue moon is the best for doublesoul 😊
@@Zetsu-IPZ Proto Soul is the best one, totally unbiased opinion
Guts soul
Blue moon souls are overall better for story mode
Because this version has way more elements chips useful at charging attacks, just compare the Aqua with Guts soul in the early game, Aqua just makes much more damage and makes easier the virus busting that in Red Sun is much harder because of the low average damage you can deal even past mid game
It's obviously Red Sun. Nothing Blue moon has to offer can compare to Roll Soul & Search Soul.
wood soul can aslo heal and number soul and junksoul recycle chips plus junksoul does the most damage in the game
Blue moon is better because junk soul can use giga chips twice. Most red sun souls only have use in pvp while blue is good in pve and pvp
Junksoul and numbersoul lol better
Blue moon’s souls are so great until they go up against search soul in PvP. Only metal soul and junk soul can compete with it tbh.
@@Ray01360 Search Soul is the GOAT and I plan on making a video about just search soul soon
love bluemoon soul number soul , metal soul ,junk soul and protosoul better than anything redsun has to offer
just wait till you que online against rollsoul. you'll be speechless
@@kiraangle2823 why because of roll soul chip breaking ability wait till you quit cause of junk soul and wood soul
Agreed blue moon is so good
Blue moon has the "cooler" souls
Red Sun has the "better" ones
Blue moon is better and cooler. The soul speed runs showed that
"Promosm" ✨
Its Red Sun we all know it is especially with Wind Soul on the loose and Roll Soul chip destruct.
In PvP yes, Roll Soul is among the best. But imo for casual play the Blue Moon souls are better
Its interesting how PvP and casual play are completely different from each other in these games
Blue moon is better because roll soul charge isn't hitting. Junk soul can use the same giga twice is better than wind soul removing auras
don't know Why BN4 get hate I was my Favorite in the series
The replays required to get souls and blue mystery data is the reason
Blue moon is better and I grew up playing red sun
No it isn’t, especially when Roll soul was considered ban worthy in tournaments.
@@RazuX5 what about to the casual player who doesnt do pvp
@@BigBoyz33 then it doesn't matter which is better??? A casual playthrough doesn't care about "what's best" but uhhh chargeshot that *deletes entire hand of chips for hitting* is pretty busted at the top end
