The shipping port with old Schooners is called Sunda Kelapa. It is quite well known, and the village you are referring to is like a shanty town which houses most of the fishermen and their families. Lovely people and right next to Sunda Kelapa. Been there a few times.

Honestly, Jakarta is one of the best cities I've lived in. Great food (seriously all cuisines mostly cause the food scene there is renowned), the shopping and the malls are to die for! Super friendly people and you receive such prestigious quality at a much lower price compared to other countries (food, cinema, spa, salon etc). Hope more people visit Jakarta! there's a ton of places to go that wasn't shown in this video

Not just that but the polluted rivers, the demonstrations that shut down everything, the beggars at every traffic light. Jakarta used to be a beautiful city back in the day but it's gone down...literally sinking! My wife is from Jakarta and I only go there when someone in the family dies. That's one reason I hope all her family is healthy LoL
But if you look past this, it's very reasonable to call it home

I went to Jakarta a year ago for vacation and loved it! Surprised to hear it's a place "one shouldn't go". Except for yeah... traffic sucks
if u want to avoid that, u can travel by public transportation, like TransJakarta Bus Rapid Transit, Jakarta Metro Train/MRT Jakarta

I heard the same thing. I went anyway and really glad I did. Lots of great food to discover but what really blew me away is the people. They are possibly the friendliest I have ever encountered anywhere. I'm looking forward to going back to Indonesia and seeing more of it someday.

The good things you will find in Jakarta and near city :
1. Amazing food ( there are many option food from all over Indonesian archipelago, western food etc), cool cafe and restaurant
2. Vibrant city
3. Interesting Museums ( National Museum, Macan Museum, Bank Mandiri Museum etc)
4. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) a place where you can learn about Indonesia in one day, huge park with traditional houses from all provinces in Indonesia and also some museums
5. Tourism spots : National Monument, Istiqlal Mosque (the largest Mosque in SEA), Kota Tua (Old City), DUFAN (Theme Park)
6. Shopping experiences ( Jakarta has hundred Malls and Shopping center)
7. Beautiful 1000 islands ( Kepulauan Seribu)
8. Setu Babakan, traditional cultural village - a place to learn about Betawi Culture
9. Bogor Botanical Garden in Bogor
10. Taman Safari Bogor in Bogor (one of the best zoo in SEA)

I went to Jakarta back in 2016 to visit a friend of mine, and I most say I got in love with the city, and I even love Jakarte more than Bali to this date...Bali was just to touristy and over priced for me...

I don't really understand why you were told not to visit this fantastic city! Jakarta, Indonesia was the first place in Asia I had ever visit and I had a really good impression Asia! Also, I enjoyed this city more than Bangkok. @3:58 I have a picture of that guy in front of that boat at the same location. So cool to see this place again.

Hello, I live in Jakarta. It's not so bad though! Hahaha. One of the places that I recommend for you to go is The Breeze in BSD (very near to Jakarta). You can go bowling there and take nice photos. Just come visit >
im so curious what the city you have been visited done and jakarta left, man its not really worse, until you see the others worst with high crime and totally messed up than Jakarta and realize it. im promise, you will see another thing beyond another world here in good and interresting way, i can make you to get that if you are here bro. just make it bro.

Belitung Island I second this statement! Belitung has the most beautiful beaches with not too much western touches & there are still true natural beauty & spots with big rocks and white sandy beach. My mom was born in this island & I went back to visit in 2016 with my hubby. It’s a truly amazing experience! Christian, hope you can make it after the Corona virus has mellowed down. What's best in Jakarta:
- Food
- Cinema (cheap but luxury)
- Cafe and nightlife
But as an greater Jakarta citizen, we prefer go to Bandung.

Been there twice and loved it, except for the time I almost got t-boned on a motorcycle. I played soccer for a few months. Humidity was the only difficult part and I'm from Ottawa.

i would do the travel vlogging stuff if an employer hired me to do this on a 8h daily basis and was receiving a stable lay cheque while being fully covered for all travel expenses. so my pay check goes straight to my pocket. what would be icing if my employer could also pay for my spouse to travel with me as well.

It's because the traffick jam that could be spent for hours if you travelled across the city that sometimes make us annoyed a lot, or worst, the flood, just like in the video, but it could be worse and it's a very common phenomena in Jakarta, that's the reason why many people prefer other place like Bali, Yogyakarta, East Java, South Sumatra, Riau, Nusa Tenggara, or even Papua where Raja Ampat located

I am wondering why some people told you to not travel to Jakarta. Jakarta is a megapolitan city, offers many high and world class standard attractions, accommodations, restaurants, and many other things. It has many things to offer and it is better than Manila, your favorite city.

During the end of the year until feb, usually Jakarta has the wet season. Middle of the year is the perfect one, this is applied to all java island too. Thank you for coming to J-Town.

I started my Indonesia trip from Jakarta. Spent 36 hours in the city and had some really nice experiences. Made some great local friends that I'm still in touch with. Oh btw, I headed across Java from there and to Tumpak Sewu, Bromo and Ijen because I had seen your vlogs just weeks before that. (Talking of Sept 2018 times). And yes, VLOGGED it all too :D

Yea, it announced that apparently all districs in Jakarta already has covid19 suspects. I have feeling next week probably the gov would lockdown Jakarta and Bali. People asked gov to lockdown. Today a lot of local govs in Indonesia announced that they are going to close schools, public areas, museums, etc.
they are closed now for at least 14 days in Jakarta and other areas mostly in java island.

I am from Halifax NS and have been living in Jakarta for 10 years now. The city obviously has issues like all cities do but its my home now and I love it. The people are geniunely kind and pleasant. Don't feel bad, I have been here 10 years and my Bahasa Indonesia sucks.
Jakarta is not built for tourists so if you want to visit, you really need to ask a local. I myself am a local and besides some cool cafes, I wouldn't know where I'd take tourists. Plus, the traffic means that you can only do one, maybe two things in a day. I see it as more of a "business destination". There are so many other places to go to in Indonesia that are so worth it tho (belitung, flores,, lombok, puncak, bandung, kalimantan riverboat stay, raja empat, komodo islands, etc.)

But it shocked me that you never tried to learn the language. To whom you spoke in those two years you have been there? English speaking abilities is not as widespread in indonesia as in other countries. And the language is one of the easiest
