Such a stupid intro. Never buy a vehicle in its first model year. Actually, the smartest time to buy a new vehicle is the last model year of production, like the exact Tacoma you are telling people to avoid. Why? Because any TSBs, recalls, or other manufacturing refinement has already been done. And you get the sweet end of year, end of production discount.
I don't know who can afford these new vehicles your monthly payment would be about $650 a month plus about $190 a month for insurance not to mention rent food electric etc.
But the Frontier has arguably the best engine and the best transmission. I for one don’t need all that crap they are throwing in the new truck want a be’s . If people were smart they wouldn’t pay the rediculous prices they are asking for them but as we know most people are clueless.
If you can put up with the gear hunting, and under powered v6 clunking transmission and poor gas mileage, and sounding like the valves are coming through the valve covers, and being over priced toyota is a great option. I had a 2016 tacoma sport and it was plagued with problems, the only positive thing was the resale value.
@@jamesspeagle9793 first year of gen 3 you had. All that worked out by 2019. You don't become number one in sales because they are junk. One can look at most any vehicle and find a list of issues.
The best thing about the 24' Tacoma for those of us with older Tacoma's is the big price increase. This is going to make the earlier Tacoma's seem like a bargain and will increase their demand and price as well. Which will be great for those of us that already own them. Sucks to be those that don't.
I had a Nissan Navara (aka frontier), my 2017, 4 cyl Diesel. Excellent Money for value and I sold it after 90000 Kilometer and 5 years of owner ship only 5000 below Sticker price. Most cost effective vehicle I have Ever possesd.
In a work pickup, the major manufacturers have lost the point of a pickup. Lose the electronics, follow the KISS principle. (KEEP IT SIMPLE,STUPID). You don't need all the "bells and whistles" to do a day's work. Make it simple, CUT THE PRICE! and keep it there. Pickups, on average, cost more than some homes do. Not attractive for sales. My old 1999 Ford Ranger (Which I hand built from Junkyard wrecks) had an initial cost of $500. Not bad and it could very well outlast me. BTW it can run on the HHO gas generator under the hood alone without batting an eye. Screw the EVs. I won't put money in any EV that has the Lithium Ion Batteries tendency of catching fire for no reason. And has any of you considered the COST of as replacement battery Pack for an EV? You are looking at $15000-$25000 for a replacement with even half decent range. Lithium Ion batteries also have a limited charge-discharge cycle life (1200 to 1500 MAX)
I bought a 2004 Tacoma sr5 4x4 new in 2005, I still miss that truck. A lot to be said for buying a mature platform. Sold the 2004 7 years later with 95K miles and only cost me 2K to own it.
In the 2024 Tacoma will have more problems than 2016, because of the turbo and the tech in it will be nothing but a grocery getter lol but I will keep my gen 3 tacoma just saying
But the Tacoma had 8 years to iron out all the kinks!!! Thus making a reliable beast! Even toyota can't be perfect the first year of any model won't ever buy the first year models would wait 4 years till the kinks are out!
😂 Ford Ranger in south Africa neighbour bought a new one a few months ago. It broke down a few hundred kilometers into his ownership Ford gave him a new one. 300kms later the electrics stopped working, he was given a courtesy one to drive while they figured the problem out. It died on his way from the dealership to home. I see he is now driving the latest Toyota Hilux.
Sure the turbo gives the small engines a lot of power but If you push them ie pulling things that will make the turbo work good chance you will have turbo and engine problems around the 60,000 miles.
I disagree. I've got a 22 f150 3.5l and it's a towing beast over ALL 1/2 trucks. The beauty of the engine is it produces 90% of its 500 ft/lbs at only 1,700 rpm. Low rpm = low heat; low heat = less engine stress. And there just aren't many complaints about the twin turbos. Which is why good ole reliable Toyota went to a 3.5l twin turbo. Which is why Ram abandoned its "legendary Hemi" for a six cylinder turbo.
My buddy bought a Lightning , towed his ATV to a lake 49 miles away, his battery drained down a lot, he sold the truck, said he’ll never buy another Ford
Ford has the number 1 selling vehicle in the world in the F150 truck which is more than capable of towing whatever depending on the model. Your buddy didn’t do his research before signing the papers as the Lightning towing and hauling numbers put out by Ford were abysmal at best. But folks fall the clout of new vehicles instead of practicality so that’s on them and not the dealer.
Tacoma trucks starting going downhill!, when they went away from the manual transmission (very rare and hard to find), manual transfer case and the manual locking hubs!!👎👎
I just bought a 2022 GMC Canyon 4×4 , yes it's a New Used , it has everything a brand new Truck has ? But for half the Cost... I just refuse to Pay $50,000 for a Pickup I got mine for $32,000 and with my 2018 Jeep Wrangler as Trade ? I walked away for $20,000 ...
Hi! I’m thinking of getting a preowned full-sized pickup truck as daily work truck. I have a commute of 40 mile one-way (1.5 hrs) then another 1hr drive home in horrid SoCal traffic. I haul mostly network cabling installation equipment in the bed, and do not tow. What brand, model year, engine and grade do you recommend? I would like to have some of the newer active safety features such as the automatic emergency braking system to avoid front collisions, but not as critical as long-term reliability and durability. Any suggestions for a late model pickup truck with Direct and Port Injection. Also, what immediate and affordable engine and transmission mods for reliability and durability do you recommend to protect the powertrain? I’m not looking for more power, just long-term reliability and durability as I don’t have too much money and need a truck for work and personal use. Thank you!
The fact that nissan is sticking to its roots makes me rather get the nissan frontier. Every time these companies change shit up it always comes with recalls and new issues
In defense of Rord Tesla quality has been very average and all EVs hauling has been horrible. Rivian hauling sucks the juice hard So this is the future ??

I’m afraid of the Turbo in the new Tacoma. A gasoline powered turbo engine will Never last as long as a naturally aspirated engine. Why couldn’t Toyota just use the Rav or Camry 4cyl engine with their hybrid system, at least as an option for the new Tacoma? Hopefully the new Stout will be offered in an AWD hybrid with a 6’ bed. If not then I’ll be looking for a used 22-23 Tacoma with the thirsty V6.

And the 2023 Chevy trucks was 1 Most Reliable full size truck Even over Toyota Tundra !! Sorry Ford Fan Boy!!!!
For a $50,000 Toyota Tacoma, it’s never going to last as long as the previous generations, no matter how many new bells and whistles there are including improved rear suspension and a closed in box frame the four-cylinder turbo Will never ever Last as long as the V6
Come on, why would you want a new Tacoma when it has a turbo that won't last as long!? Yeah, you're right, I'm already in the comments...for GOOD REASON!! They ruined the the Tacoma!
In conclusion: buy a 2024 Tacoma? That's the moral of the story I gathered. Where can I find a truck with features like manual climate controls, powerless take-anywhere printed navigation, an analog insturment cluster, a CD player, keyed ignition system, and a remain running feature? I'd really like one of those trucks. Oh wait, I own one already. Those of us who are paying attention are seeing things like a $52,000 battery pack parts quote, coupled with a car dealership whimsically voiding a warranty and arbitrarily transferring potential battery fire liability to the owner of a vehicle that's less than a year old. (see Ioniq 5 fiasco). We're not too enthusiastic about the EV revolution. Couple this with the lackluster performance (range tanking while hauling a load), range anxiety, and ticking timebomb factors. And a lot of us are saying "not for me". But EVs are not exclusive to new vehicle money pits and becoming freedom-slaughtering prison cells on wheels. This is also an ICE vehicle problem as well. Forces in the government have already mandated kill switches under the guise of preventing drunk drivers. (see H.R.3684) I've also heard rumors of usage statistics planned to be continually sent to law enforcement, healthcare, and insurance agencies. If all of these become a reality, we'll start to see a freedom-killing dystopian nightmare that makes the works of Orwell and Huxley look like utopias. If you thought the nanny insurance app was bad, just think about the whole car reporting everything you're doing. All while AI interprets the data. Likely, you'll be issued a citation for distracted driving because you scratched your face. (see amazon driver charged with using "cell phone" while driving) We're looking at a potential future where your car locks you inside and drives you to the police station, while notifying the police that you have an expired registration. Not to mention a future where exhaling is dubbed bad for the environment, and is a taxable offense. (Don't get me started on that one) I work in IT and I know how backdoors work. I use them constantly. The computers my users are using will tell me if they're lying. I can tell you what websites they've gone to, and in some cases, even their website credentials. (Don't sign into your bank account at work and cache the password!!!) I have complete control over their system. I can lock them out, delete all their data, install whatever I want, restrict all of their access, restart, or turn off their computer at will, etc. All of this work can be done completely without their knowledge. They can't do anything about it and are given less permissions than me. This is all done in the name of protecting them from themselves and preserving company assets. Now lets make the computer system your car, the company, the government, and the administrators, AI. You tell me how comfortable you are getting behind the wheel of one of these. Considering that any highspeed collision is prone to cause serious injury, or death. Do you really trust all these shadow forces with your life? A constantly connected, entirely computer controlled vehicle means someone else controls "your" vehicle. You get to use it only if they let you. This typically means jumping through a series of hoops on a regular basis to maintain your "license to operate". I'm not a dog, nor do I appreciate being asked to act like one. I prefer freedom, liberty, and the right to choose. EVs and all new cars spit in the face of this preference. All in all, hard pass... On all of it. I don't trust car companies these days... Any of them. A bit much, I know. This one just struck a nerve. Cheers.
Fact, turbo charged engines have a poor track record of reliability and expensive to repair and you only get better gas mileage over a larger normally aspirated engine when you do not step on the gas pedal to engage the turbo because the undersized engine is underpowered without the turbo engaging. And when the turbo engages you can kiss your better fuel economy goodbye. Initially owners of new 2024 Toyota Tacoma's will be thrilled by the power and torque of the turbo four but when they realize the fuel economy is poor and they start having issues with the new engine they will long for the days of the old reliable and easy and inexpensive to service 2.7 four Toyota used in the previous generation of Tacoma.
Kudos on refusing to acknowledge that the GMC Hummer EV even exists. 😂
Toyota did away with the clamshell doors on the access cab and that was a deal breaker for me
Nailed it!
Glad to see the Amorak wasn’t on the list!

2024 Toyota turbo 4.... Let me know at 200k miles!!!!
So because the tacoma is the best truck it’s the worst? lol that makes no sense.
People who haul stuff aren't buying the Santa Cruz 😂
The little truck that couldn't.😂
I’ll take the 23 Tacoma since they have 6 cylinders
The 24 won't be as cheap to own with maintenance. Those turbos will be expensive. I wonder how low they are mounted
I bet the 24 will be great but I am going to run my 23 pro till the wheels come off or I kick the bucket, hoping wheels first
Just bought a 23, 2024s will be way overpriced…

Out of all the trucks on this list, the fronteir is the most underrated truck ans most likely outlast all these other trucks.
