Use a much bigger drill on the rivets - you just want to take the heads off, and you can then push the remaining part back through the hole. It avoids the risk of enlarging the hole with the smaller drill. Good job though considering it's the first time you've done it! A steel drill will cut an aluminium rivet VERY quickly, with not much pressure.

I work in carbon frame repair and honestly, while they have indeed cut corners as you say with how the hanger is applied.. from experience this sort of thing happens with some of the big name brands too. I won't name any specifically, but we remount front hangers fairly regularly. If that is the only issue you've faced with the frame then for it's price it's still an absolute win. Admittedly it happening so early is pretty bad 😅 but and easy enough fix as youve seen.
Congrats ahead having the baby girl, that’s why i like mechanical group sets thank you for taking the time to inform us with this problems and how to fix it.
Apropos of paying later down the line with your time: absolutely. I use the Sensah SRX Pro 1x11 derailleur and brifter set - but ended up replacing the chain and cassette that it came with very early on, since both broke. The value of all this is figuring out where you can cut a corner and save a little time, and where you can cut a corner and end up in a (hopefully proverbial) ditch. Love your work Luke. Your humour and presentation is so thoroughly enjoyable. Congratulations on the impending birth. Your indoor trainer is about to become your best friend.... 😅
Good work on the repair. I have to say, though, that your experiences with this groupset coupled with my own not perfect experience with Sensah SRX Pro has kind of soured me on the idea of using Chinese groupsets in the future. I was looking into using this ERX to upgrade my Ti bike to electronic shifting, but after all the issues you and others have raised about this groupset I've decided to probably go the 105 Di2 route instead given that it's not THAT much more expensive (plus it has auto trim which is cool). Congrats on the new baby!
Yeah tbh, at this point in time 105 Di2 seems like the best choice. Like you say, it's not _that_ much more expesive right now, and that bullet-proof Shimano reliability is hard to argue with...
@@TraceVelo If L-Twoo fix the problems that have been experienced by a number of reviewers, and keep the backwards functionality in the app (10 and 11 speed) for the second iteration it will make for a decent groupset. I think this issue is down to first attempt teething troubles.
@@matt_acton-varian Yeah I REALLY hope so. No idea when the second iteration will emerge tho. I think they are working on the launch for the gravel version atm, so i wouldn't hold your breath for V2 any time soon
Congratulations on the baby news Luke, time intensive is right. Will look forward to your next upload in 2033. It will change your life though in all the best ways.
In my opinion, most of the AliExpress carbon frames available are 'hobbyist' projects. Even the ones with nice paint jobs. There's always a bit of filing, or sanding, or adjusting to do before it's good to go, and on rare occasion a repair job like yours. It's why we're getting them for these prices. The faulty derailleur is another thing altogether, though. Congratulations on the imminent arrival of your first child! That is some very nice news indeed! 😃
not only frames from aliexpress, I have a FELT frame and I also had to grind one element to fit the frame, the problem is that in some manufacturers you see every mistake, but in large manufacturers you don't notice the same mistakes.
Dude, huge congrats on the kid. I think you’ll find you’ll have heaps of time the first few weeks and then that time disappears around week 6. Just had twin girls at the start of this year. Enjoy!
Congrats, from a new first time dad to a wonderful little whirlwind girl, Evie. Everything else will blend into the background, I hope you find time for us, I really enjoy your stuff and find some of it useful. More than anything though, enjoy your next few weeks and months, they are f**king magical! Best wishes to you, mum and your your little life changer
I have bought C hina stuff before. Most of the time had problems. Many times it is the little things like what you are experiencing. We appreciate your HONEST REVIEW. The company should have sent you a new frame free of charge.
Becoming a parent party was the reason I got into cycling. Started with a halfords mountain bike and a trailer. Quickly progressed to a road bike and Thule trailer. It was a special time. My son is 7 now, and many bikes have came and went, but I couldn't part with the trailer 😂 Beat wishes!
The electronic groupsets put out much more front shifting torque. And because of people able to shift under pedalling load there will be additional stress on the derailleur hanger. There may not be an issue on mechanical shifting. But there may be issues with electronic groupsets. So it could fail or you could be good for a long while. My hypothesis is that the lose hanger put undue stress on your front derailleur itself killing it in the process. Maybe your front derailleur motor has simply stripped an internal gear tooth because of this frame issue and having to overshift because of the loose hanger. Good job on the home fix, and more importantly. Many congratulations on the family upgrade!🤩
Yeah well said! FD's on electronic groupsets do put out quite alot of torque, but this frame is fully internally routed, so essentailly designed specifically with eletronic groupo's in mind, so I would have thought it would cope with it, but clearly not 😬 Also I thought of this a few days ago, so actually took the plastic housing off the eRX FD, and the teeth inside are totally fine. Nothing is jammed up, so yeah NO idea why it's not working....
@@TraceVelo Interesting, is it also not somehow out of position? Will you be able to show the derailleur internals in the future repair video? Btw the technical know how of your channel improves little by little. Sometimes I also get inspired to take things apart.
@@luukrutten1295 Yeah I could definitely show the internals, although there is not much to see. The FD just has a motor and some gearing, there is no bluetooth connection or anything like that, the brains of the groupo are housed in the RD. In terms of the FD being 'out of position', I actually took the housing off, moved the motor and gears by hand to a more outward position, and plugged it back in, but again nothing... 😔
I have the exact same issue - same frame bought 10 months ago. Was nervous about messing around with carbon and didn’t want to pay for a carbon specialist. In the end I managed to “fix” it with zip tie 😂 - so far so good. No missed shifts.
Ok interesting, can't say i'm particularly surprised you faced the same issue 🤣 But if you have a spare weekend, this fix honestly wasn't too difficult. Not sure I had the best technique when drilling out the rivets, and I practiced setting a few rivets before tackling the frame, but it was surprisingly straightforward!

If it is any consolation, I had exactly this issue on a Colnago c64. Fix has been to epoxy again and the use 2:35 new rivets.
The other advantage of using a larger drill bit is its a bit less likely to spin a loose rivet.

Nice repair Luke. Bit of a bummer you had to go through all that though. Hopefully Trifox address that.
Congrats on the new role as dad! 🎉 🥖
🎉Congratulations, Luke!!🎉
Wishing you, your significant other and your new baby girl the VERY, VERY BEST!!🍼🍼 Sending bottles instead of bagels, lol 🍼🍼
Thank you so much!!
Congratulations on the baby news Luke, time intensive is right. Will look forward to your next upload in 2033. It will change your life though in all the best ways.
Many congratulations to the new addition to your family!
Congrats on the little one Luke! Sending love from the Philippines!
Dude, huge congrats on the kid. I think you’ll find you’ll have heaps of time the first few weeks and then that time disappears around week 6. Just had twin girls at the start of this year. Enjoy!
Don't give up on that frame Luke! The hassle aside, I'd like to hear more of your riding experience and long term durability.
Congrats on the baby!! Prepare for HUGE changes but totally worth it! 🥖
Yes! Thank you!
Congratulations on the baby :0) Let me state the obvious; your life, as you kow it, will change forever, and you are going to love it!
Congratulations Luke! Most exciting times ahead!
As always, great job on the videos and reviews!
Congrats on becoming a parent. The most tiring and rewarding thing ever. You will never be tired climbing up a mountain again.
Congratulations on your first child, please take your time with her. they grow up so fast you’ll miss it if you don’t.
🎉🎉 congratulations Luke! The work and the funnies always on point and wish you all the best as a new father!😊
Congrats Luke to you and your family. I wish you all the best
Well done and congratulations on the baby. I have my first, a girl too, due in December. Good times ahead
Congratulations on the baby and yes, they are a bit time consuming! Good luck.
Best of luck to you Luke on the new addition to the family and big congratulations, God Bless 👨🍼🥖🙏
Congratulations on the impending addition, lots of fun.
Great to see you are having a baby. Life changes, fast.
Becoming a parent party was the reason I got into cycling.
Started with a halfords mountain bike and a trailer.
Quickly progressed to a road bike and Thule trailer.
It was a special time. My son is 7 now, and many bikes have came and went, but I couldn't part with the trailer 😂
Beat wishes!
Congrats on the baby! Also, thanks for the honesty review, and the effort you put into the fix. I love that kind of content!
Congratulation on the baby news Luke. Thanks for all the work 🥖🥖🥖
I have the exact same issue - same frame bought 10 months ago.
