    Quite a few of those frames had the steering fault that you describe. It transpired they were shipping an MHP16 bearing with the bike. It should have been an MHP16H8 the latter is a 1mm thicker at 8mm rather than 7mm. That cured the problem. I don't think that was ever communicated that well.

    • @Hambini
      @Hambini 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +42

      Oh and their wheels that came last time to me were garbage.

    • @TraceVelo
      @TraceVelo  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

      That makes ALOT of sense actually. I definitely didn't need to remove 1mm from the bottom of the spacer to clear the frame, but a bearing with a slightly greater width would have solved this problem from the outset, great insight!!!

      Actually it has 8mm and 7mm uppper is 8mm & 7mm on lower. I installed the other way around thinking they are same size after checking the bearing it comes with 8mm and 7mm which is need to be install as per instruction 8mm upper and 7mm lower after that no more rubbing

    Cheers Luke, amazing video. Have a three-year-old and eight-month-old and the sleep regressions are the most challenging part of parenting in these early years. My best survival tip (not “advice” because there’s nothing you can do to control the timing or length of these things) is to get as much sleep as you can, whenever you can. That may cut into early evening “after the kids are asleep” plans but if you know you’re going to be up hourly, might as well start your rest early to get a little bit of shut-eye.
    Hang in there buddy!

    Flexy frame! I'm building my 8th Chinese bike in 2y, the 9th is on the way. It's not for everyone. The FD rivet shenanigans especially. Everything else i'd say would be fine for me and my friends (I build bikes for my friends). I have a 3d printer and stopped counting the shims, tools and things i've designed and printed to help here and there. I'm printing a BB tool right now, and printed various shims for steerers precisely so that plastic doesnt rub on the frame at the steerer/fork. For me all this is fine. But it's not for everyone. And none of this makes the frames dangerous or unsafe to ride. And all of the BB & bearing holes on all my frames have been round.
    But people who prefer buying Specialized & Time frames should keep doing that.
    People are different. I actually enjoy the troubleshooting and the grind. Although the 9 bikes frames i've been building are more expensive than Trifox.

    • @baddiedu
      @baddiedu 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Totally agree - not dangerous and not for everyone. The advantages of buying new/from a brand name are convenience mostly.

    I bought 2 gravel frames from airwolf for 500€ each. One had too much paint near the headset ao I had the same issue like you. I solced it with a washer below thecone that presses on the headset bearing. The other frame had the problem with a not flat brake saddle which I solved by filing it down by without sepcial tools. Also one cable hole was blocked.
    I decided to build the two bikes up from scratch in order to get some knowledge about bike repair stuff so the extra work was fine for me. So far it's sturdy. I learned a lot and am happy with the built.

    Great review, thanks. I bought an X16, which I think is the rim brake version and the experience throughly annoyed me. Mine, despite being advertised with a 68mm BB the BB shell was wider than that. Their advice was to file the BB down by about 2mm! My SRAM BB would not fit because of the width but we did get a Shimano one to work. The rear dropouts were too small and against my better judgment we followed Trifox’s advice and carefully filed them out. Oh and the BB thread itself wasn’t cut properly so I had to have that machined. Plus the customer service from Trifox was appalling. On the plus side, it is very light. But then so is a crisp packet.

    Maybe trifox will take your feedback into account for future designs. And you can thank the derailleur hanger for that intact dropout. That is what these hangers are for - they are from soft alloy and meant to bend and snap to prevent this from happening to the dropout.
    As for the customer service - it's a bit unrelated but I can honestly say that ltwoo's pre- and after sales service is quite bad. They also ghost about issues with their products, like notoriously overtightened lever bleed port bolts (GR9 and e9) which are easy to strip because of a bad design and too loose fit of the hex key.

    So I bought one recently to move components over from a crashed bike but I've only put on 200mi at this point. And so far I'm not running into any of your issues luckily. The one issue I've run into so far is that the rear axles H6 hole is probably a little smaller than it should be, causing the bolt to round out. They've sent me a replacement but required me to pay shipping.
    One thing I did notice was that your headset doesn't seem to have the same clearance as my bike. My bike seems raised 1mm because of the aluminum part that goes between the bottom spacer and the frame.
    Also I have a baby the same age as yours. I think I lucked out, because my kid sleeps 6-8 hours through the night! My parents are involved and so they help watch my son during the day. But my wife and I also let our son soothe himself to sleep. If he isn't crying real tears, we'll give him about 5 minutes to try and get himself to fall asleep before we intervene. He's gotten better and better, to the point where sometimes I put him in his crib, he'll let out a cry but then kinda sooth himself to sleep. He likes to either put his hand on his face, suck his thumb, or touch the back of his head to get himself to feel better.

    Hey Luke! I’m considering building an endurance road bike, and I initially looked into Canyon bikes, but their prices seem a bit steep (in my opinion). Do you have any recommendations for aluminum frames from China? I don’t have any experience with carbon bikes. Keep up the great content!

    Is the rear spacing actually 148mm? Like you need a Boost hub? I've not seen any Boost spaced gravel (let alone road) bikes, but saying "half a cm too wide" sounds remarkably like it's Boost.

      That could actually be an awesome mistake for me (if i bought one) because I’ve got an extra set of Elite Drive 6 wheels in 148.

    Luke as a Siroko ambassador you should recommend they implement a crash program. I took a fall a couple of years ago and my jersey was ruined.

    In the late 90s my boss at the shop I worked at asked to assemble a high end Bianchi with high end Campagnolo parts. I was excited! But my excitement soon turned to dismay as I discovered what a mess the frame was! I spent an entire day finishing the frame (facing, chasing, aligning, etc.)! The components needed work too. Truly a mess. The bike was gorgeous when it was done, but boy, that was not what I was expecting.

    Just a comment on babies sleeping, or not. My experience as the prime carer with both my daughters from 3 months onwards is that they do get through it just before sanity leaves. And also that not rushing them back to embed if they wake for food can help too. I used to feed them ( bottle obvs ) then change nappy just in case ( on them, I was dry by then ) and soothe them back to sleep. Have fun :) 🥖 🥐 🍞

    I also have a "flexy" frame (non trifox), and it causes the rear disc to rub on the brake.

    Hi Luke, loved the latest video summing up the Trifox saga, like you say with a bit more quality control they'd be on to a winner, but i suspect its the pile 'em up and sell 'em cheap mentality. So the 'odd' complaint is bearable compared to money rolling in.
    You'll get some decent sleep with the little Lady pretty soon; all's forgiven when you see them blissfully sleeping with arms above head!
    Had to laugh when Mrs TraceVelo corrected you about your sleep deprivation comments!😂😂😂😂😂 In case you hadn't heard, (forgive the pun) they've all got ears like deep space listening stations imo.
    Take it easy and have a great weekend.

    With thru axles, the axle takes most of the load off the frame for hanger/derailleur hits.

    On rear triangle, on dropout you need put a washer, because if not...when you tight the axle the rear triangle stay always on pressure, this issue happen also with brand frames, its not exclusive from chinese carbon frames.
    well done.☺

    Being a dad of two men (34 and 33) only one was a nightmare with sleeping, the other was really good. Don't worry... other issues with kids will be more concerning. Things even out over time. Just love your baby and listen to what the mom tells you todo ;-) Looks like for a little more $ might get you a better frame than trifox.

    Currently going through exactly the same, Luke. Although mine is 6 months now. Honestly, just a case of weathering the storm. They are learning and growing and finding their way in the world. You and your partner just need to keep pulling together and sharing the load. Advocate for yourself and each other and you won’t remember the regressions after they subside!

    The thing about the rear dropouts, is that even if it clamps down fine, there is no telling how well aligned the rear triangle is. Maybe it's not enough to notice, maybe its perfect, but it doesn't give one a lot of faith in the frame.

    • @janeblogs324
      @janeblogs324 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can tell with just a string, if you cold set a frame from 125 to 130mm you already know how.
      This frame was 148mm boost hub width, he needed new hub end caps

    Hi Luke love the videos, did trifox send you a new rear hanger ?, have to say that on the basis of you first video and build video, I went ahead and got one 😬 now so far no problems 🎉I suppose it’s just luck as you would think they’d send you a perfect example. Maybe I got your one 😂I’ve put the Sensah empire group set on it and yes the FD is pants swapped it out for Sram and now it’s perfect. I wouldn’t have attempted any of this without your videos so thanks so much
