    It has come to my attention that Red Dead Redemption has a bug where if you change the Frame Buffer size from 1GB to 4GB it will not auto allocate past 4GB. All other games to my knowledge at the moment work fine and can actually get an increase in performance.
    Regarding A1 vs A2 SD cards, I am going based on US pricing, but some A2 cards are as cheap as A1 cards, so why not get the faster card. Doesn't mean you have to, I would just shop around and see what best suits you. A1 cards are still great and perform very well.

    • @Dravpin
      @Dravpin ปีที่แล้ว +8

      i read somewhere that the steam deck sd card reading is capped at 100mbs so i mean if the price is the same as an a1 why not buy an a2 right but for people on a budget woulnt it be better to buy an a1?

    • @Shahrukh_Ali
      @Shahrukh_Ali  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Dravpin I have a video coming up about this, but another thing to keep in mind is the write speeds when installing games. The A1 cards that I have take a while to install games, the A2 card I just got installs them significantly faster. But yes keep your budget in mind and if an A1 card makes more sense, by all means get an A1.

      Will there be any issues when playing red dead redemption in changing the frame buffer size from 1 to 4? or it is still ok if I does not auto allocate past to 4gb? thanks

      @High TIMES I love it, it has been a breath of fresh air. The battery life can be quite poor depending on what time of game you play so I would suggest buying a power bank when you can (if you plan to use it on the go) but obviously you can play with it plugged in for however long you like. Overall I have been very impressed. I've played and completed God of War, Uncharted and Days Gone, to name a few and they all look and run brilliant on the deck. I've been very happy with my purchase and I still use it on a regular basis.

    One that is kind of similar to emulation in that it is for the steam deck but doesn't come with it, people should try to install decky for the steam deck which is just steam deck homebrew and it allows users to install extensions and stuff, really cool and one of the most popular extensions lets users change the vibrancy of their deck since the steam deck's display sometimes seems a bit dull
    edit: just saw that you seem to also already use it, surprised it isn't on the list

    • @Shahrukh_Ali

    battery calibration is actually obsolete, it was only useful back in the olden days with nickel batteries. Li-Po (Lithium Polymer) batteries are very sensitive with charging cycles and they have an IC (integrated circuit) that controls the battery and is factory calibrated to its respective device. For the best battery performance it is recommended to keep it between 25-85%.

    • @Shahrukh_Ali
      @Shahrukh_Ali  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There were reports of the battery health not being properly reported. Mine was reporting at 83% health after a weeks worth of use. Which is why I include this battery calibration step as it is also recommended to do by iFixit when you change the battery itself.

    I wouldn't recommend setting frame buffer size to 4gb unless you know what you need and want. The main reason is that it might affect how steam deck verified games run. For example Devil May Cry 5 crashes from time to time with 4gb, because the memory runs out and it doesn't have time to adjust. I would recommend keeping it at 1gb or at most 2gb and increase it if you have a specific game that requires it.

    • @Shahrukh_Ali

      Some people including myself had an issue where the battery health was misreported. Doing what I explained as calibrating fixed that issue.

    I don't recommend putting it to 4gb. My steam decks fan was CHUGGING playing a low demand game and it was killing the battery so quickly and overheating. No need to kill your deck

    • @Shahrukh_Ali
      @Shahrukh_Ali  ปีที่แล้ว

      Upping the initial allocate VRAM buffer size to 4GB should not cause that. Something else is causing that.

    This is one of the ONLY videos that has GENUINELY USEFUL ADVICE instead of the same common sense non-tips. Thank you!!!
    ALSO TIP NO.11 GET THE STEAM LINK APP FOR YOUR TV. NOBODY TALKS ABOUT THIS! YOU CAN STREAM TO YOUR TV WITHOUT A DOCK REALLY WELL AND IT'S WONDERFUL
    Although, come on dude, the battery life isnt nearly as bad as everyone is making out. Yes if you play modern AAA games at 60fps/uncapped max graphics you're going to drain a battery in an hour that is common sense. Tuning or playing older games ive easily got 3-6 and on emulated and ultra-indie 6-8 hours.

    • @Shahrukh_Ali
      @Shahrukh_Ali  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ll def have to look at steamlink.
      Regarding the battery, yea it’s something that can run those games, expecting more battery than an hour is unreasonable, but it’s something I would like. With some tuning it’s getting there.

    Great video! Just wandering- would I be better off just getting the Steam Deck with 64GB storage and then just getting a large-storage Micro-SD card? Would it be right to say that it wouldn't be that much slower than having 512GB on-board storage but would be much cheaper?

    • @Shahrukh_Ali
      @Shahrukh_Ali  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can totally do that and even upgrade the internal storage now that 1tb SSD’s are available readily for the steam deck from Sabrent.

      It does, but depending on where you live, the price between A1 and A2 is quite similar. May as well get the faster one

    SteamOS changes Frame Buffer Dynamically so you don't need to change it. And frequency requirements will change from game to game don't just lock it at 1100Mhz for every game...

    • @Shahrukh_Ali
      @Shahrukh_Ali  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The dynamic change for the frame buffer works fine but causes some stutter or lag when there isn’t enough already allocated, changing it to allocate 4GB from the get-go alleviates that. Also setting a locked frequency is if you’re trying to get the most out of the battery. If you don’t care for battery life, you don’t change that.
