    It's always fun to get a new Mora knife. There are a few things I like to do to a new Mora before I start packing it around. Add a ferro rod holder, file a 90-degree edge on the spine, and work on sheath retention.

    Inner tube is brilliant stuff - it has so many uses .. from strong elastic bands to making battery straps to hold your m/cycle battery in place.

    Did a similar modification to my Mora Craftline. Taped a holder for a fermium rod to it. I combined a Duck Tape and one of those reflective tapes. I have butter fingers and I lose things easily. If I have to search for it in the dark, a reflective tape would be very handy since it reflects light better than regular tape.

    You could also add a racing stripe of orange tape on the handle of the knife so when you drop your rod, your, case and your knife they can find each other!

    Thanks for the video!

    Two suggestions. First, if the knife starts to slip out of the sheath, I read somewhere that if you get a hair dryer, you can warm the plastic and tighten up the hold on the knife. Second, if you get a 2 or 3 inch piece of inner tube and slide it up the belt loop and down to the top of the sheath, the handle of the knife will hold against the rubber and reduce the chance of slipping out. You could even cut a slit in the top 1/4 inch to use as a band to secure the knife. That way it won't slide down when not being used.

    That was an awsome use of a 308 casing. Never thought of that. Kudos to you. Subscribing now, just for that video. Keep it up.

      Thanks for the sub! If you cut the casing off partway down the shoulder you can create positive retention on the ferro rod. Works well.

    2 points
    1- Bic pens or marker case are a better option for your fire steel as it’s a bit lighter and flexible
    2- be sure to mix the whites with the colors so that the wife gets off your back about laundry duties.
    Just trying to help a brother out

    • @ghanaboyz
      @ghanaboyz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      on the first point: in my personal experience a drawback is that some plastic on those pen parts may be brittle. I have tried this myself while playing around with a sheath and fire rod. The bic pen plastic parts started to break very soon when the setup was treated roughly. Yes, the plastic was hard, but it was brittle. The idea is very clever at first glance, but personally I wouldn't rely on it for tough situations and extreme temperature ranges.
      I guess others may have had another, better, experiences, but this was my experience anyway.

    You can use the .308 Casing as Grip for the Ferro rod as well, just put it where the Bullet was with a litlle help from a hammer or use the vice as a press, looks better, hold better and bigger Grip. Or you simply drill a hole through the Rod and put the elastic Paracord through it, very simple and you have the full length of it to use.

    I like to use the gorilla tape as it is strong and I can use it later if needed. When I put it on I do not rip it in half I just let one half the tape hang off the back of the rod making the handle that much longer and easy to hold, plus that much more tape if needed for cuts or what ever.

    Nice modification. I like the orange duct tape. Food for thought: might it be better to just flatten about half of the spine (the half away from the hilt) instead of the entire spine. That way you can have the flat, squared surface (or slightly angled as you suggest) for scraping the ferrocerium rod but have a more comfortable rounded spine in the area where you would naturally put your fingers or thumb using the knife for whittling or other fine carvings.

    • @keithallison.22
      @keithallison.22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anyone that knows anything about knives knows you should leave At Least 1" (I favor 1.25"+) of smooth, safe, comfortable spine before any mods. This leaves plenty of room for the scraper, and even a bail handling notch, if you're so inclined.
