  • The Mora companion knife is one of the best cheap bushcraft and survival knives. However, with a few simple modifications, you can significantly increase its usability in the field.
    In my video, I'll show you how to modify a knife without having any special tools or an extensive workshop. You can make such a modification yourself at home or while in the field.
    To modify you will need: a file. paracord, flint, fire starter, lighter, old bicycle tube, silver tape, felt-tip pen.

    Looks good you matched the paracord and sheath color! I keep a little emergency kit in a cigar tube (ferro rod, iodine tabs, etc.) Its airtight and small enough to stick onto a sheath like this.

      It seems to me that if you attach a cigar box to a knife sheath, the paracord may slip off. I think a better option is to put these elements in a string bag and wrap it with tape. Then you will get a more oval shape of the knife sheath and the paracord will fit tighter. However, like any modification, if you do not check it yourself, you will not be sure whether it is good or bad. Let me know if you make such a modification using a cigar box and whether it worked.

      @@outdoorlife9117 no not a box, its a tube that holds a single cigar. Its how some of the bigger Punch cigars come, I think it's aluminum, looks to be the perfect size and shape for my sheath. Thanks for the ideas- I love stuff like this!

    you can add some stuff under the last layer of tape . like sewing needles with thread. and some all weather matches for emergencies

    Hint, use tape the same color as the paracord. Trim top end and melt it before pulling and it will disappear inside wrap. Trim the pull cord short and put the knife blade between it and the sheath, then melt the end. Then while it is still hot, use a flathead screwdriver to tuck it inside wrap. Both ends protected and a neater finish

    Awesome mod! Great job. Im gonna do the same... maybe fivure out to add a mini Bic lighter to the front with duct tape. Great job on wrapping the paracord. You could get the more expensive fire cord type paracord as an added fire starter string. Button compass.
    What brand Ferro Rod with that wooden handle is that? Perfect fit into pen tube. I want to get that same one if you could kindly let me know.

      Thanks for the feedback and a few hints on how else to further improve the modifications with additional elements. I bought Tinder a long time ago on aliexpress but I see you can buy it on amazon from this link: www.amazon.com/Emergency-Survival-All-Weather-Magnesium-Multi-Tool/dp/B0BCHQCFJ7/ref=sr_1_33?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.7cVtwv4iJ5HivF2HIpF8ZIKEI76T2buh2qz93ImTUuT5fXOah_zd9ux0J4tB7Rt-VvwOcbZaZ0_iD_Ui9CMhDMKV1Kj7WlLGevLxwK9jkrj_SALv8G3EQ1ANNqUOr_XBHD_lGl9-N1RH-pngNZ5Zj43VtRZuF4I0Scp1jcwgBIHmVplBsPq_AnQPAC1KS1AEKhBoegm_-xtSxQl3qQezDq-JblrN9Zhh7CNUso2aiGRacGlxvrWVK1GJrnEg6-EykJ3kdmPI_Bms0fQsnEYmINDEz8JroMbL-uCo293MaBs.roR30x6P6XxtaZWosFN9r8ZnuKx7oKXCl8xmnbf_HtM&dib_tag=se&keywords=ferro+rod&qid=1711663749&sr=8-33. What about wrapping the tape first, then the fire starter kit, so you dont have to undo all that tape to get to the bag. I also hear the tape, torn into thin strips, can be used as a fire starter.

    • @outdoorlife9117
      @outdoorlife9117  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion, a fire starter is used in really extreme situations. Even in very rainy weather, I am able to light a fire using flint and natural materials. Plus, I always have a lighter with me. However, the chance that I will use tape and paracord is much higher and therefore they are available in the first place.

    Unravel all that tape to get the fire starter is not good.

    • @outdoorlife9117
      @outdoorlife9117  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Kindling is only used in extreme, exceptional circumstances, while tape is more likely to be used, so it is available first.
