    Thumbs up Dave! I have to say, the sound of a Mora knife clicking into it's sheath is one of the most awesome sounds I have ever heard. BECAUSE it instantly reminds me of SO MANY good times on the trail, hiking, camping, doing bushcraft tasks. I just love that sound.

    First bulk knife perches for all my emergency kits was a Mora tricked that knife out drilled whole for bank line lanyard epoxied if I remember correctly a dime for a bow drill then watched Dave's Common man's bushcraft serries which gave me the idea to ranger band 2 reciprocated saw blades 1 metal the other wood to the back of the sheath then took a mint tin that opened from the top took 2 stainless steel plumbing clamps and attached the metal tin to the sheath so instead of having to lash resip blades to handle could know use plumbing clamps worked great inside the metal tin was my fire kit lol they were so cost effective had them stashed everywhere still do for most part but have learned and progressed I think

    okay so a tip from the PNW if in the PNW it would be very wise to use the garberg with the leather sheath. I have already ran the blade through its paces here. the leather sheath is easy to clean, and is much more sturdy....for instance when hiking through brush, now I'm not saying the kydex isn't good, I'm just saying IMO leather is best for PNW environment. also keep it up Dave great advice, I'll be adding some comments to your pine fire starter video soon.

    Have had Mora knives 30 years, really good knifes. Sometimes I wish that they had a sheet like the one Hedgehog makes verticle on the back on the belt. Maybe they have and I haven' t seen it yet or the Molle-system can be used in that way.

    would you recommend a patina on the mora blades? or keep them clean?

  • @bayoubushcraftandsurvival8842

    You can put the retaing strap on the garberg and then slide the belt loop on under the retaining strap, then slide it into the multi mount bracket and will stay together. I then slide a long piece of inner tube over the multi mount which allows me to stick a large ferro rod and multiple tender quicks inside. Sounds bulky but it really isn't. Just a tip or trick mod that has worked well for me.

    Good stuff Dave...when r U gonna do something on cold weather food off the land- not so much as hunting, but more foraging for substantial survival foods not pertaining to the hunt/fish foods? Have wondered about this & would appreciate it if U can do a video that would add to the squirrel or fish caught as far as something to add to those. Thanks Dave.

    • @DavidCanterbury
      @DavidCanterbury  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not much on greens and nuts bro, I prefer to kill my food and that I have shown a hundred ways to Sunday in past videos, if you plan to survive of nuts and berries all winter, you need to rethink that option.

    • @charlesloveday9208
      @charlesloveday9208 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      wildernessoutfitters...no way am I saying I'm wanting to survive on nuts& berries, but would like to know what can b added to proteins hunted & fished. Wouldn't want to survive on nuts, berrys,& greens at any time of yr. Just wondered about what can b added to the deer I've killed or rabbit/squirrel or fish that I get. Not that gravy, biscuits, & sausage ain't a full meal but what would U b able to get during the winter to add to or have with a deer roast? Sorry if I sounded like a veggie head but what is available to get n the woods at this time of yr? I live n similar kinds of land where U r...hills/mountains of east Tenn.

      @DavidCanterbury  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends on the environment, but pick'ens are slim this is the reason for gathering and storing during the growing season, you can find a few things but when the snow is on, it will be tough

    • @charlesloveday9208
      @charlesloveday9208 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wildernessoutfitters...understood. Wasn't thinking ahead about that...so easy to not prepare when the store has everything needed. Mainly thinking n the not prepared way which is how people fail.

    • @nyx5623
      @nyx5623 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the best way to look at it would be to look historically at what the natives and early settlers lived on. From what I know the natives in the east relied heavily on wild rice, certain tree barks, dried roots, dried fruits and acorns for the winter (and of course meat). Further north they would have had to sustain themselves mainly on meat.
      I don't think they would have foraged much plant foods during the winter months, they would have relied on their food reserves and hunting for survival. If you have to forage for plant foods in the winter you would be already screwed in a long tern survival scenario imo.
