  • WE ARE BACK WITH ANOTHER CURBSIDE CONSULT EPiSODE!!!! Let's get this to 50,000 LIKES!!!!
This time I partnered with Experience Kissimmee and hit the streets of Kissimmee, FL to talk street medicine. This is one of my favorite videos to film because it really accomplishes a lot of my goals.
    - Make Quality Health Information Easy & Fun to Access
    - Expand upon the few minutes that patients get with their doctors to give general explanations
    - Show that doctors are humans too and we like to have fun!
Within this episode we touched on these subjects:
    - Weight loss
    - Preeclampsia
    - Aspartame
    - Is blood really blue?
    - Microbiome
    - Chicken Noodle Soup for Viruses
    & More!
I would love to do more curbside consult episodes. Please leave me your thoughts down below!
If there’s something that you’re curious about and would like me to explore in a video, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. We’ve got some really great videos coming up in the next
few weeks so be sure to subscribe to stay up to date! Love you all!

I agree with the people saying a college campus. Not really for the med students so much but I think sometimes college student don’t often take the best care of themselves (physical or emotionally) 24/7. I think you could try going over specific things and how college student can balance it all. Not only that but I think college kids aren’t used to having to make doctors appointments or asking questions without a parent so maybe asking you might, like you said, be more relatable. But shout out to UT Austin, if you do end up going to places ;)

Perhaps for your curbside consults, you can target cities famous for specific negative (or positive) health attributes.
For example; choosing one of the most obese cities in the US. It would be interesting to see if people in these areas are concerned with obesity and willing to actively seek free advice; or if it is lack of concern that caused it. This could also be done in top cities for STDs, other afflictions, or even most healthy cities.

I cant speak for everyone, however, in the healthcare field symptoms can be linked to a wide range of causes - thus there is a lot of generalised advice that can be given, from there you work down to the next level targeting the specific attributes of a disease for example. Thus if you work like this; narrowing down the field you have to recall its seemingly easier - segmentation where specific “facts” branch off main pillars of generalised advice.

@@laurentprzybylski3401 Haha, I don't see psychopathy here. Stepping back does help people to not feel like you are encroaching on their space, but also removes some of the personability. He's trying to connect with these people fairly quickly; establish a rapport of trust with proximity, showing he is willing to be vulnerable at close distance, while making himself less threatening with his personable body language and unimposing posture. I suppose, since psychopaths are often adept at manipulating people, you could make that argument. Haha. It might look strange spectating it, but the people he is talking to likely felt very engaged, and relaxed by it.

It depends, some sort of doctors are what is called a “cowboy” What this means is they are focused on one outcome and will likely not try to find other possible diagnoses. Whereas other doctors may find it very nice that you care for your own health and may find it very helpful. So basically some doctors may take offense to it, and some may just find it is very helpful or they won’t really care. But, I can’t speak for everyone because that would be Way too much power for one to have. 3:59 Actually, from a neuroscience perspective, finding your strongest learning style and isolating it at the expense of others is not ideal. The best approach is a multi-sensory method that attempts to incorporate as many senses as possible. So for example, you might listen to your lecture notes, whilst also reviewing the slides, and occasionally writing stuff down. That gets you auditory, visual and kinesthetic memory all at once. Also don't focus too heavily on testing yourself. Creating more stress can hinder further learning. The repetition approach is very good though, as it causes the brain to think "well this information must be important, so I should probably hang on to it."
I'm a private tutor for primary aged kids and I use the multisensory approach for learning times tables. I tell them to recite the times tables together with their parents three times a day. This builds visual, sound, and social memory, while the repetition causes the brain to flag the information as important. Kids who practice it properly will typically move to a new times table once every 2 weeks.

    • @Kieran7931
      @Kieran7931 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I only glanced through the video, but I don't think he was saying pick the learning route your good at and ignore all the others. I think he was more saying find out what way you learn best and make sure you prioritise and always do that... doing others, fine whatever, but always have that medium which you work best with.
But yea, good point about combining all senses and combining it with a social aspect.

Hey Doctor Mike! @2:17 The only alternative sweetener that the gut bacteria in our colon can feed upon is Stevia. Aspartame consists of phenylalanine with an added methyl group and aspartic acid which are all natural amino acids and as a result is digested just like dietary protein, so it doesn't reach the microbiome of the large intestine. What you guys should be cautious about is if you have a condition called phenylketonuria (PKU) then you should avoid consuming food high in phenylalanine because your body can't metabolize it correctly and it builds up reaching toxic levels in your system. Keep it up and keep studying! Greetings from a Greek med student.

@@aikunhuang4418 Mm true. My thought process was that anyone can get a consult if needed. Not that he's giving actual consults... I guess I just would like him to come where I am lmao

I'm so glad you mentioned teaching as part of learning. I've been a trainer at different jobs and it's one of the things I've tried to tell people for years. I find that people retain the information better if I first explain it while demonstrating it & then have them practice on their own or with a partner & then have them teach it back to me. This could certainly vary based on the job or subject being taught but I've found it to be super helpful. At the same time people have often been hesitant to see the value and I've never actually heard anyone else mention this method so I was extatic to hear you bring it up!

I would love it if the doctors and surgeons actually said good morning or smiled or even held a door for us student nurses😁. You seem really friendly but I think that doctors should have a six week nursing experience thing just to help them with their social skills😅.

You should do a college curbside consult! As a college freshman! It would really help!

his posture is very relatable to someone who on the taller side of my age group. and for him, he's doing a very personal q&a with people so the last thing he wants is probably to seem like he's looking down on someone.
