I'm not the biggest Dr. Who fan but the Sylvester Mccoy era, which is my favourite era, I have fond memories of watching when I was a kid. I enjoyed the Christopher Eccleston & and David Tennant eras when Dr. Who came back, too, but then I dropped out of it again. I would consider buying this set for the nostalgia.
Been waiting for this one ever since the Blu-ray collections began, and just by looking at all the various new features this has alongside the archived features, this could be the best Classic season Blu-ray set so far.
I find it a shame that the standard editions take so long to come out, and the deluxe packaged versions are SO much more expensive! I appreciate the time and effort taken to make them worthwhile, but more would sell if the deluxe and standard editions were either released at the same time, or in reverse as is the case with steel-book versions of releases. Of course, I love the fact that so much effort is put into them and so much new and newly available content is included. I love the fact that one can see the original version, or enhanced new versions and more; so one can choose which they like/prefer best. But, the overall cost has to be taken into account. Not always the collectability. Just my take on the sets, especially when the are limited in availability (in person) and mostly have to be purchased online; often at muchly inflated prices. (But that's another story, of course!).
I much prefer the standard packaging as a general rule. They take up less space and aren’t as easy to damage. And I find that the hot glue that holds the disc trays into the special edition sets isn’t always strong enough and the trays fall out, especially the larger sets (that happened to my Season 20 after I’d only owned it for three hours). However, I’ve ordered my copy because I don’t want to wait for this one. The inclusion of the Silver Nemesis documentary is enough to tempt me on its own. It’s a really good documentary and I haven’t seen it since my VHS player broke down 12 years ago.
@@michaelturner4457 I laughed when I first heard that. Bassets seemed to think that preventing the BBC from using the Candyman again was some sort of a victory. But, of course, there was never any intention of using him again anyway, and it avoided a costly law suit. The Doctor Who office must have been laughing till their sides split!
The Kandy Man did make another appearance in the early '90s, at the Dr Who Exhibition, Longleat. Along with other characters and props from The Happiness Patrol. Because I remember seeing them when I visited Longleat in 1993. And there are pictures at drwholongleat. Presumably Bassett's wasn't aware of his later appearance here. He wasn't completely Licorice Allsorts, Kandy Man's chest and arms were more like Humbug boiled sweets.
It would be nice if they used the era appropriate logo on the cover (the one on your thumb nail). Using the modern logo seems odd for four episodes from 1988.
Fascinating intro to the box set. Is this only available on blu-ray? I play DVDs into my laptop on an external DVDR and to get a blu-ray one would be another 200 quid or so
The set is only available on Blu-Ray I'm afraid! All the individual stories are available on DVD still, though these are the transmitted version with older restorations ☺️
Got my copy of Season 25 in the post this morning. I took the wrapping off , looked at all of the discs and then opened the panorama of the tardis interior. As usual the booklet is great. Lee Bindings artwork is brilliant as usual. I immediately started to watch the stories with the 1st disc of Remembrance of the Daleks and really enjoyed it. Whenever I get my boxsets I always watch the stories first then I play the special features. on each disc. Not a fan of the happiness patrol or the greatest show in the galaxy. I hate anything to has a circus in it. I find both of these stories really boring.
Perhaps a stupid question (I'm just about to watch, apologies if the video answers this!), but are the special editions of the stories an omnibus-type thing, or are they still as individual episodes? Would be neat to see movie-style versions with those new effects
I remember having a complete collection of classic dr. Who stories on VHS, now that's what i call taking up too much space.

Series 25 of classic Dr who is my favourite Sylvester McCoy series of classic Dr who

Definitely a contender for sure!
The voice actor of The Candyman changes him from silly to terrifying.
I switched to the Blu Ray sets, because I cracked the math, and it was going to cost more to finish the DVD's.
I think I need this. Thankyou for making this video 🖖🙂
One of my favourite seasons of the show probably because it features my favourite DW story ever Remembrance of the Daleks. 😊
Doctor Who

Another unboxing video, good!
I'm very much hoping that we will get a Troughton season next.
Season 7 is the favoured bet for the next collection
@@topmandog1 Oh, I'm on tenterhooks with that news, what with being a huge Zoe fan and all.
Will be waiting for the standard - next standard is s6 plus Blake’s 7 comes out in November as well

R.I.P AMTV Who.
So, does this mean we can expect more Doctor Who content back on the main channel?
Very possibly!
Yeah, the SE Remembrance is really good, I don't think the standard edition disc is going to get played much.
Series 6 ,we need a Pat Troughton blurey!
Definitely! Also Love The Prisoner profile picture
As much as I love this season. This is the first collection set I didn’t preorder. Sadly financially I couldn’t
That's totally valid!

The makers of Liquorice Allsorts sued over the Candyman, as he looked like Bertie Bassett - looked like he was made out of Liquorice Allsorts !
Did they win the case?
@@MadBiker-vj5qj Can’t remember if it ever even got to court!
The Happiness Patrol.
It never went to court. The BBC assured Bassett's that Kandyman wouldn't appear again.

The Special Editions are mainly extended versions of stories with new effects & scenes. The only omnibus story on here is Silver Nemesis I believe!
@@AdamMartyn Interesting, thank you very much!
I don't mean to sound rude but How come you're not uploading on the amtv who channel anymore?
I did an update video a few months back explaining why ☺️
@@AdamMartyn oh ok
Season 25? Don't you mean series 25?
Well... It says season on the box 😂
no.. classic who is season
new who is series
rtd/disney era is season
'Season' makes more sense.
