That part in the back of the red 150 is a air brake actuator (brake can). Basically a diaphragm with a large compressed spring inside it. Kind of a dangerous thing to be messing with. Looks like a big truck or bus didn't stop in time.
The Sonic, on the area in question, look at the plastic splash guard. It has the same bend and form to it. It fits right in the "bent" area in question

I knew it should've had one and sure enough the Outlander in this video (at 19:30) does! You might want to check over the front end of the red one for any signs of previous damage!

And you can run them on used cooking oil if you're after the full off-grid experience! Some of the carnage is just terrifying. It might seem counterintuitive, but big trucks are notorious for poor crash performance. Watch some test videos and you'll see. All too often they fold in half and the cab ends up full of bed and engine. Aluminum bodywork can't be good for strength either, when it melts like plastic in a fire. Of course the best way to survive a crash is not to have one. Drive safely people :(

Looks line the right wheel on the Sonic doesn’t turn with the left one. My bet is that the indentation on the frame rail was made by the wheel hitting it, it all lines up.
As far as the VW's go, just look at the tachometer. If it's a 1.8T, then it'll say turbo on the back lid if it's an original car. The 2.0L and the 1.8T engines will have the same 6k+ redline. The TDI's will have a lower redline on the tachometer. The absence of a turbo badge, and those wheels tells me that it was a 2.0L car. If it was a TDI car, then I would've bought it. Those cars are very repairable, and sell pretty quickly.
