      Really? Seems like a headache with the wiring and the fire. It also seems to have caused a fault with the roof as there is a major gap in the rear.

  • @KylePantano

    Randy, Airmatic suspension is a lot easier to deal with compared to the ABC system. You could convert it to conventional suspension if you wanted to keep it. I don’t think the 1,100 price is worth it though. Too much. I’d personally rather have the SL

    • @colmfarrel4742
      @colmfarrel4742 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nah the Sl looks like a headache with the wiring I like the S class out of the two.

    • @arrocha87
      @arrocha87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A class super cheap to convert. I did to my 2000. Worse was all the other air leaks. Because it had the soft touch doors and trunk and the heated cooled seats even in the rear. But I don’t like the mileage.

    The light staying on the S Class is a parking light. It says on if you turn the headlight switch all the way to the left. My grandma had a 94 400SE and the left that on all the time.

      Yup im from the uk 🇬🇧 n the parking light is standard on all cars makes not just German, any Europe car n I thought a lot of USA also. Maybe turn your car off. Take out the keys, turn the left or right indicator on n see if you get just the one front one rear lights come on. Nobody uses it thought. The thought behind it is you turn on the parking lights on the side furthest away from the kerb in very dark areas.

    I bought a 2002 S430 at Copart not long ago that had fire damage under the hood. I replaced the damaged harness and found the car had 286K on it. I never would have guessed it because the car runs and drives perfectly. I got mine for about $600. $1100 is a bit on the high side but it is a clean car. If you ever want to talk about W220s or anything Mercedes, let me know. I daily drive an 03 S430 and will be getting a STAR diagnostic system soon.

    The S500 is a deal! Drive it til it dies, part it out and make a fortune. Like you said the parts sell for a LOT of money! You could probably make 10 times you money parting it out after driving it til it dies. Most people like the 500 better than the 600. The 12 cyl is a little overkill and the V8 seems to be just right, for resale the 500 will be better if you decide to flip it you could double your money on it pretty easy. A clean S500 can still bring in a couple bucks. Fix the strut and it is worth 4k-5k "private party" value in "good" condition. Yes you can get the air struts cheap online. No paying 1000-1200 bucks for them anymore! I have a E class, with 240k, with the AMG stuff on it, That is rust free and in excellent condition, that I am selling now. I love driving the Mercedes, it drives like new still, even with 240k on it. Super tight! You can't get a better made car. Everything still works on mine too and the seats still look like new! Just the AMG wheels on that car will sell later for as much as you are buying the car for, then you sell the drive train, interior and body parts and you will multiply you money by ten fold. You can't go wrong! You have the room and the capability to tear it down later and part it out after you enjoy driving it for a long time, which will in its self pay for the car with the enjoyment of driving that car. Buy it now!

      @aicsusa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@B0xlife1 How many times are you going to ask me the same question! You heard that one running and it sounds excellent, mine also runs perfect. If you take care of these cars they will go forever. Mine had almost zero emissions when the smog test was done at 240k miles. Mine is the inline 6cyl M104 engine that made Mercedes famous and is still used in commercial vehicles made by Mercedes today. They call it the million mile motor! It has been highly used in taxi's all over the world for decades. Many with over one million miles and still running good. Not to mention the many other commercial applications it is used for. If you don't know about a Mercedes then go drive some and buy one! I like the 300 E class's and 500 S class's with the 6 and 8 cyl engines. I believe they are the best and if taken care of will last forever! I am retired now and selling all my cars and trucks getting ready for a long motorhome trip across the country and then selling it too and moving overseas, or I would not sell any of my vehicles. I have the Mercedes, a Lincoln Town Car, a Cadillac Deville, a Corvette and a ext cab custom Chevy Truck left that were my favorites. Time to enjoy life somewhere else now! My dad said when he drove my 500 series years ago "now I know the difference between a car and a automobile!" No, I am not a Mercedes salesman or endorsed by them, I am just passing on my experience with these fine automobiles. This is not my first Mercedes, just one of my favorites, I have had many over the years. It won't be my last either. Have a good day and there is your answer you keep asking for!

  • @amancheema8906

    The button on the interior in the s500 you were unsure of is to control the suspension settings. Both leds on would make the suspension very stiff. If no lights are on the suspension is in the comfort setting. There isnt an electrical fault with the car, you moved the switch all the way to the left which caused the parking light to remain on.

The hydro boost also came on the chevy trucks since the late 80's early 90's, mine was a 94 3500, all original, with the 454 gas engine and only 60k on it. The hydro boost is better than the vacuum booster especially if you are towing and have a low rpm low vacuum motor.

    BMW's are notorious for that lifter tapping noise. They usually go away because it has automatic adjusting lifters after a few seconds but the fact that the noise isn't going away is hinting that the oil is very low on the car or somebody ran it with low oil for a while.

  • @degeneratewinners
    @degeneratewinners 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 3.0 in BMW do that because of the lifters it's normal. Use a heavier weight oil and it will quiet down. Also make sure coolant is full. The tapping is normal. And the 3.0 is famous for valve cover gaskets. Basic maintenance

    Buy that S Class. That wasn't an electrical fault with the side light. You turned the switch fully to the left and turned on the parking light. The upright position is the off postion.

    BMW - leaking valve cover (check). Brake/ABS/TRAC light (check), Suspicious tapping/VANOS (check). yep thats about right for 100k. The brake/abs/trac is common for a bad module, i've sent off about a half dozen to be refurbished.

    On the GMC......sometimes they show on the fuel gauge "Diesel Fuel Only" or check the fuel door on the outside. Hopefully that would help to determine if it was a Diesel before the next time you come across this again..

    As for the S-Class, the rule of thumb is that if the car made it to 268k, most of the problems already popped up and where fixed. Airmatic, as you said, is cheaper and much simpler than ABC, so for 1100, it may be worth a shot. Specially when you consider that probably its the strut or the line that is shot. Not the Air Pump. Again, for it to have made it to 268k someone had to be looking after it.
    Buick looks like a Flood IMO as well.
    The SL500 at this point works more as a "fun car" than a profit car. It looks like someone took car of it until someone decided to break in it.
    Chrysler 300, i would suggest not touching it even with a stick, even if it was clean. They where nice as new cars, but right now if they didnt take car of it, its just a box of problems, where probably its too far gone.
    328i, E90's (The designation of that design of the 3 series) are known to be fragile when not taken car of properly, and even if you take care of them properly, they are still sort of a lottery. Nice cars, but when something goes wrong, it goes wrong catastrophically. Im guessing the lifter tap has to do something with the Valvetronic. For a BMW to not have A/C and to have that many lights means that probably whoever owner it, didnt really care about the car enough to get the A/C fixed.
    GMC: No comments, i only really know about Euro Imports.
    The other SL: Those roofs are complicated, and probably expenside to repair. I would dare to say it may have more electrical damage than just the roof control module. It does look nice, and probably, if you fix it you could make a sizeable profit on it.
    RX8: at 126k I would think its due for Apex Seals unless they have been fixed already. Good content either way as you could show how to rebuild a rotatory engine (Its not that hard, and im sure a lot of people would be interested) Or it could make for a nice quick flip. i think, because of the tires and the way it sounds, that it probably has something under its belt, possible its been ported or something.
    Acura TL: Expensive and probably worse that expected

    The s-class has electronically controlled shock absorbers to control the stiffness. Beautiful car the v8 is great and can last forever, the light isn’t stuck on it’s the “party lights” for parking on the side of the road the light knob is just turned past off.

    Hi Randy - You were a bit low on the sticker for a 2017 Mercedes Benz SL550. It’s closer to $125,000 than $80,000. I really appreciate all of the Mercedes SL’s you showed in today’s video. The Mercedes SL and the Corvette are my favorite cars. I hope that you get through the bad weather okay. The national news shows a great deal of flooding in Oklahoma. Good luck, Jim in Florida

    The red Burned Mercedes I had a claim on one Just like it. It was a Easy Fixer they make a Harness and Module Kit for it for the Rear Body. Hardest part was the Strip it out and clean it up and Paint. Test your Skills.... It was 2500.00 at a Shop to Repair it took 3 Days. If it is super Cheap I would get it.
