Indigo for Hair: How to Properly Mix Indigo from a Natural Hair Coloring Expert

  • Indigo is a natural Ayurvedic plant-based dye (vegan) that is used with henna to color hair reddish-brown, brown, dark brown, and up to black tones. It lasts 4-6 weeks and will cover greys.In this video, henna and indigo hair coloring expert Khadija is showing you how to properly mix your indigo for optimal results.
    TIPS TO REMEMBER:
    Indigo can only be mixed with warm to hot distilled water and some aloe vera powder for moisture (only a small amount is needed). Salt is optional as some claim it helps the indigo stick better to their hair strands. Indigo only needs max 20-30 minutes for dye release and it's ready to use.
    Do NOT use indigo alone! It MUST be used with henna either as a 1-step process by mixing it with henna, or as a 2-step process after applying a henna treatment.
    DISCLAIMER:
    Indigo can be an allergen even though it's a natural plant dye. Do skin patch tests before using any new henna and indigo hair color treatments or Ayurvedic herbs.

    Hi ! I have dark ashy blond hair that's more on the thin and slightly wavy side of hair texture. I've done cassia masks in the past to save my hair from various chemical bleaching/colours that ruined my hair and scalp. It worked great but i'd like to try and dye my hair brown (not too dark i don't want it too be too harsh on my Caucasian paleness 😅) but I'm terrified to use indigo. Is their an minimum amount i could use for it to have lighter tones? Do you have any tips?
    🙏🙏🙏 Thanks

    How do you know salt will make it stick to the hair? are there any other things to add that will help it stick? It never covers my gray but I really like the way it makes my hair so dark. To be honest with you, I do use it by itself because I can't stand the orange red I get from the henna.

    • @elizabethbirdallgreer2773
      @elizabethbirdallgreer2773 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard that it isn’t necessary to use henna if the natural hair is already black. So, one step with Indigo is all I begin to do, and it works fine. I believe, the two step is only because a person having a bit of gray, than the two step is better to cover the gray; but, if it’s not a lot of gray, why not just use the henna only where needed. I am happy with the one step.

      What are curds? Sorry for my delayed reply btw. I don't know honestly if that blend of herbs will work as it sounds like a lot and not enough henna to allow the indigo to cling properly. Your "black mehndi" can be unpredictable as who knows what's in it as it has to contain other ingredients as well since henna, is a natural red dyeing herb.

And don't use shampoo and oil for 2 or 3...after 2 or 3 days shampoo and oil can be use.. Repeat this process after 20 days.. Again and again application of this 2 step process will make hair 95% black (can get desire results)....keep patience 😊 for getting result and product should be 100% pure

      Sure. Welcome!
      1. Once the indigo paste is ready you should have already let your henna paste sit 3-4 hours. Your henna paste has to be made first and then you prepare your indigo once the henna paste is almost ready.
      2. Yes then once the indigo paste is ready mix it into the ready henna paste (the henna paste can contain amla powder, or hair oils and your liquid ie water etc...).
      3. Yes you can do the same as #2 if you want to add aloe vera powder to indigo and to henna are both okay.
      4. So #1-3 are the steps for a brown recipe range (from reddish brown to dark brown as then it now depends on how much of each henna and indigo used) so if you want to apply indigo alone without mixing it into the henna paste, so this is a two step process then you're hair will be black. Both henna and indigo must each be left in the hair 3-4 hours for best results.
      A dark brown recipe would be 1 step and black would be 2 steps. I hope this helps.

      I am preparing to do my first full hair colour with henna and indigo and I'm not sure whether to go dark brown or black. Hoping you can answer each of my questions so I can get this right! The information is sometimes overwhelming so I need short clear answers.
      1) Can you please share the different ratios BETWEEN the henna to indigo to achieve approximate different shades from brown, to dark brown, to black please?
      2)How much henna and indigo for short-med length?
      3) When i have done a full head of colouring with henna and indigo, how long do I have to wait to touch up, and would I only be doing the roots?
      4) Do I start on freshly washed hair/no conditioner?
      5) Can I deep condition after henna but before doing the indigo colour, or would it be best to do a deep condition after completing both the henna and indigo?
      6) What type of other treatments can I do on my hair and how often after colouring, for example if I want to use amla, brahmi or hibiscus etc (I have these in my stash).
      7) I hear that lemon juice is a great liquid to help release the dye in henna. Should all the liquid then be lemon or can it be diluted? Does the lemon need to be warm to hot?
      ) Lastly, if oils can be added to the henna, how much? Does adding the oil affect or hinder the dye uptake on the hair?
      Sorry for so many questions but hopefully, if you answer, it may also help other: i am grateful and thank you in advance...love from the UK

    Indigo doesn't stain as long as henna, isn't that right? I read it's only about 2 weeks. I certainly find my hair gets redder over time suggesting that the indigo is fading.

    • @HennaSooq
      @HennaSooq  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Henna & Indigo can sometimes fade over time as does any type of dye (weather and elements cause this or heat over time) and it also grows out so it’ll eventually come out on its own fully over time. Henna hair dye & indigo lasts 4-6 weeks but depends on hair growth.

      Hello. Did you apply warm to hot water. You can water gradually until your mixture become the consistency of a pancake batter.

      Hello. Henna hair dye lasts 4-6 weeks but depends on hair growth. People choose henna hair dye as they do not want to use chemicals so this is a true natural alternative. We hope this helps you make your decision on what would work best for you. Good luck!

    Hello ! Is it necessary to apply indigo the same day we applied henna on hair ? or can we apply henna today and use indigo on hair next day on wet hair ?

      @HennaSooq  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello! You can apply indigo if it's been anywhere from immediately to up to 3 days after your henna application. Not longer. Because there will be new growth. It can be applied onto damp or dry hair, as desired.

    What if I already have dark brown hair and want a blueish black color?

    • @HennaSooq
      @HennaSooq  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Sorry for my delayed reply. Yes you can go blueish black toned. It just takes many applications and patience. A two step process along with indigo in both steps helps but it can go blue black with consistency and many applications to build up the color.

    Can you use Amla or Cassia instead of Henna?

    • @HennaSooq
      @HennaSooq  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No you can't as indigo needs henna as it's base to stick properly to the hair strands (because it's permanent and the other herbs are not).
