Be caredul with swallowing cloves if you suffer from Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels). But if you have diabetes, the eugenol in cloves can help lower blood glucose counts to safe levels. Also don't overdo it. Eating or exposure to a large amount can cause tissue injury and a syndrome of acute onset of seizures, damage to the liver and kidneys, and coma. Clove may interfere with the body's ability to clot blood and may increase bleeding risk. For this reason, people taking blood thinners, such as warfarin, should avoid consuming cloves and since they may impact bleeding risk, you should also avoid taking clove supplements prior to surgeries.

Always great information Dr. Berg, thank you. I was raised in Somalia, located in East Africa, and have fond memories of my grandmother's unique remedy for treating colds and flu. Whenever I had a congested nose, she would prepare a concoction of boiling water infused with a pinch of cardamom, a generous amount of grated ginger, and cloves, and a stick of cinnamon. She would then have me inhale the aromatic steam, draping a towel over my head to trap the vapors. Afterward, I would drink plenty of this warm, spiced liquid. Optionally, a slice of lime could be added for extra flavor. This traditional treatment always seemed miraculous in alleviating symptoms, and I continue to use it for both myself and my children, finding it remarkably effective.

I do have something to add. Cloves are hot in their nature. As I discovered when I kept one near my tooth for pain, I did it too long, and it actually burnt a spot on my tooth. So when sucking a clove for any reason, we need to take a break every once in a while.

I massaged the affected tooth and surrounding area with clove oil . I could manage it so well and after 4 months when they lifted the lock down with certain conditions i met the dentist who was very happy that there was no inflammation and the broken tooth was easily extracted.

I got the cloves to chew, but recently have been making clove tea for my husband when he got sick. It helped him breathe better and get a good night's rest from congestion. I use the clove oil in my mouthwash. It's SO strong; so not many drops. Love the clean and healing feeling it provides. I will, however, start chewing 1 a day.
    Thanks, Dr. Berg ❤

One thing I noticed about Cloves is as a child we stuck cloves completely around an apple. We put the apple in the closet, our clothes smelled great and it kept moths away.
Years later the apple was not rotten

We did oranges. In school every Thanksgiving season we stuck the cloves in an orange. Wrapped the orange in a colored thin netting material and tied a string of lace to it. It was a gift for our Mothers closet. To this day the smell is stuck in my brain. Heavenly!

I had a tooth ache once and I was out of town and couldn't see my dentist. I didn't want to take a pain killer. I read online that clove oil was a natural analgesic. So I went to a local health food store and bought a bottle of organic clove oil and used a cotton swab to apply it around the tooth and it stopped hurting. After watching this video, I bought a bottle of Frontier Co-Op's organic whole cloves and I chew on one every night and swallow it. Frontier Co-Op does not irradiate their products and they do not use Ethylene Oxide (ETO). ETO is used as a pesticide and a sterilizing agent and has been linked to cancer. It is commonly used in the spice industry.
