  • The Ford Ranger is an incredibly popular pickup - drive down the average road and you'll almost certainly see one. But how do you improve on perfection? Well Ford decided it was time to give the Ranger a bit of a facelift. So with a smidge of automotive botox injected into it, let's take a look.
    It’s so good looking - the top of the pile when it comes to trim in the excellent Ford Ranger range (that’s a mouthful) and thankfully, Ford relented and you can still get the excellent, powerful 3.2l engine.
    ( Check out our Ford Ranger Leasing Deals Here: bit.ly/3IWKEYb )
    So, yes, it’s got the looks, but does it have the tech, equipment, and engine to justify the love? Let’s see…
    Key Points:
    • Titanium-effect painted front grille
    • The Euro 6 3.2-litre Duratorq Diesel 200PS engine is mated to an excellent 6-speed gearbox with Auto Start-Stop
    • 18-inch machined alloy wheels
    • Electric foldable mirrors, indicators and puddle lights
    • Side steps with metallic inserts
    • Wildtrak emblazoned on the sides
    • Sports bar behind the cab
    Double Cab 4x4, so very spacious! And Wildtrak is everywhere... on the steering wheel, the floor mats, and seat trims.
    • Radio with 8-inch TFT touchscreen
    • Rear-view cameras, Nav system, Voice Control
    • Bluetooth/USB connectivity
    • Apple Carplay, Android Auto, Applink
    • Emergency Assistance
    • Sports bar behind the cab with loading space lighting
    • 1000kg payload with a braked towing weight of 3500kg more!
    • Length - 1.5m
    • Width - 1.5m
    • Width (between arches) - 1.1m
    • Depth - 0.5m
    Class-leading luxury even in the back… but let’s take a look at some of the other pickup trucks available right now…
    • Mitsubishi L200 - a top-class pickup that sells big and is top-ranked thanks to its high towing capability, it’s also a proper looker at the Barbarian and Warrior trim levels.
    • Nissan Navara - a tough interior and excellent options in the cabin set the Navara apart from the competition - if you’re in the market for one, the Tekna trim level is where you should start!
    • Fiat Fullback - a great-value pickup truck platform shares with the Mitsubishi L200 so it comes from good stock. Well worth a look.
    • Isuzu D-Max - there’s something understated about the D-Max, and that’s fine, it does the job of a pickup without making a fuss! Farmers love it, and that is high praise indeed!
    • Mercedes-Benz X Class - sharing some bits of the Nissan Navara meant Mercedes-Benz built a luxury pickup on the bedrock of a top-performing pickup platform. How long it hangs around though is anyone’s guess.
    • Toyota Hilux - we’re several generations in now, and the Hilux continues to perform incredibly well. It’s got the usual high Toyota build standard and the tech bundled in there is very user-friendly.
    • And finally, the VW Amarok - the VW brand is incredibly strong and is clearly on show in the Amarok pickup truck. It’s big and comfy at speed, so much so you’d easily mistake it for an SUV’s drive quality!
    And there you go, as you can see there’s a lot of choice in this sector, and each pickup has its merits, but if I can plug the big Ford Ranger Wildtrak it would be to say that it is THE icon for many reasons, but the ones I’d highlight are that big 3.2-litre engine and excellent cabin build quality.
    So, how do we finish this?
    Being a pickup truck icon is easy when you can back that title up with consistent performance, hard-wearing build quality, and a powerful engine.
    The Ranger has continued to evolve and tick more boxes… the Wildtrak trim level isn’t just about better seats, it’s a totally different engine, a huge double cab, amazing Loadspace functionality and the rest.
    So, if you’re looking for a new pickup truck, I’m pretty sure I’ve given every reason you’d ever need to check the Ford Ranger Wildtrak out!

    Love the attitude on the tough plastic dash. "Let's be sensible and use tough plastic". I hate it when reviewers complain about the plastic parts. It's durable and doesn't scratch easily, that justifies using plastic on parts of the interior.

    Do you think this would be great as a first car?
    Here in Australia, the Ranger is the best selling pick up truck, or as we say "Ute" (Utility vehicle) and has been the best selling car for years. I know it's big, but I am hoping to learn how to drive with my dad's 2020 full size suv like my sister currently is, so by the time I get my licence I would be used to driving large cars.
    I think I might also be ok in parking, the wildtrak comes with auto park here as well. Great review!

    Nice review! After I watched the Mitsubishi L200 Barvarian-X, Barvarian and Warrior.... Both Ranger and L200 or any pickup ...pretty much will give us the same output if we are only going to used them in the city for work, grocery , malls and bulky stuff that has to be in a pickup... but one thing that we need is the one that has wide angle view while driving and has great legroom and hi-ceiling for more comfort... can you tell me which one has that?

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom here: Thanks for the question/comment. The L200 (especially at the Barbarian trim levels) has excellent room inside with a slightly higher seating position than the Ranger. However, the Ranger always feels more spacious, but with a slightly lower seating position. Bit of a toss up really.

    At 11 minutes, it's not an adblue filler. It is a funnel [tundish] for the capless fuel tank filler so you can fill from industrial size bowser nozzles or a top-up can for emergencies. All capless fuel fillers from Ford, Honda, Volvo and lord knows how many other brands all supply the tundish as standard, from way before adblue was fitted.

      Some spotty kid just out of school working in the marketing department must have looked at it and thought "what the heck is this thing? Must be for Adblue". LOL. In fact all vehicles with capless fillers have had this tundish supplied, certainly since 2012. Way before Adblue.
      I know because I've used one almost every day on firstly my 2012 Honda, then a Ranger and a Volvo XC90 to fill from my home bunkered fuel tanks which have nozzles that do not suit the capless system. All these vehicles have a funnel as standard and none of mine have addblue.

      The Ford Ranger is genuinely built Ford Tough. I've only just come back from towing a triple axle Ifor Williams 14ft livestock trailer with four cattle, for a total of 3.5 tons. Mine is a 2.2 automatic built in 2016; nothing fancy. Handles it well and is probably one of the best four cylinder pickups available for work and leisure. A bit thirsty and the six speed auto has a big gap between second and third ratios. Have drive the 3.2 and, importantly, the new 2.0 twin turbo with 10 speed auto. That takes it to another league again and I would consider it a serious alternative to my big Land Cruiser 100 series, the big one, in every way, even suspension comfort. My brother and I were highly impressed. The 2.0 twin turbo is quite a bit more expensive than the remaining 3.2 versions currently but the increase is worth every penny we reckon.

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom here: Having tried both, the 3.2-litre engine is a powerhouse and gives you a heavier vehicle with strong towing, but the 2.0-litre EcoBlue is tried and tested in Ford's other commercial vehicles offering excellent MPG and it's the latest version of the tech. Right now, we have some great leasing deals on them both so it might come down to price for you.

    Nice video. However to many superlatives used and a review without any criticism is not worth the time. Nothing on the car market is perfect and that what you make the ranger look like. The placement of the front USB for instance is questionable as it will be hit by your phone all the time. I am sure there are other areas where the car has issues as well

    My Navara towards Ford Ranger: hold my beer!
    Honestly I find the Ford Ranger vulgar and try-hard, just not as reliable and solid as the Navara and Hilux!

      @@TickTickBoom13 Fair enough. These days people don't really keep their cars for that long, no longer than 100,000km+, in Europe atleast.
      It seems to me that the game is no longer about reliability alone, it's also about value for money and customer service. I could only wish I knew where you're from, but here in Belgium, Ford has gone down. Worst customer service (I was literally ignored by the reception, never faced that anywhere else).
      The Navara manual gearbox failing seems normal to me for a car with 100,000+ km, you can't expect everything to be perfect I guess. I've heard tonnes of horror stories of Ford Rangers and Ssangyong pick ups going wrong even before reaching 100k on the clock. Even hiluxes caught horrible problems! But Of all the pick ups you chose the Ford Ranger... Sorry for my pessimism but I have bad feelings about Fords overall. You're courageous, but watch out for Ford problems.

      BMWdayWhatyouwant yes true I usually look to trade in every 4 years/100,000km and was literally 3 weeks from trading the navara in when it happened.
      I’m in Australia, the dual cab utes are probably the most popular car model here. I’d say the Ford Ranger is the most popular, followed by the Toyota Hilux.
      Ford Ranger Wildtrak is king in my opinion, but I guess a lot of it comes down to personal preference really

    Replacing the 3.2 now with the 2.0 bit of a shame

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @xj358
      @xj358 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 3.2 will still be available alongside the 2.0 bi turbo until the next generation Ranger is released at the end of 2021 which will be a joint calibration with the VW Amarok. The Ranger is due to be fitted with a 3.0 V6 diesel which will likely please those who currently prefer the 3.2 over the 2.0. However, judging by how long Ford took to introduce the PX3 Ranger in to the UK which was over a year after it was first released in Australia, it maybe late 2022 or 2023 before the next generation Ranger is seen in the UK.

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xj358 Tom here: Absolutely, but the decline in demand for the 3.2-litre engines is dropping as more people see the EcoBlue's performance. Fingers crossed we don't have to wait that long to see what Ford & VW can cook up.

    • @xj358
      @xj358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vanaramauk That's the difference between the UK and Australia where the 3.2 is still very popular with fuel prices being considerably cheaper at the equivalent of just 55p per litre of diesel and unleaded. Many Raptor owners would have opted for a bigger engine than the 2.0 bi turbo if it was available. Ford is now likely to offer a bigger engine in the next generation Raptor at the end of 2021.
