The Charger has a 6.4L (392) V8 rated 485 net horsepower, while the GTO Judge has a Ram Air IV V8 was rated 370 gross horsepower. The Charger has an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the GTO Judge has a 4-speed manual transmission. Rear gearing in the Charger Scat Pack is 3.09. Rear gearing in the GTO is unknown, but stock was 3.90 with 4.33 optional. Curb weight for the GTO is 3781 pounds, while the Charger Scat Pack is a massive 4400 pounds.

I don't hate Pontiac, I hate that there is no Pontiac.
Same with Plymouth. It would be awesome to have a modern roadrunner and Cuda.
It's better off. It wouldn't be Pontiac anyway. Just like Chevy isn't Chevy anymore.
GM is a junkyard and Mopar is owned by Fiat. More junk!
I agree.
So very true. Remember Pontiacs last attempt at the muscle car..05/06 GTO? Even die-hard Pontiac fans complained that the 2005 GTO was ugly
@@jeffreyrogers8151 and it wasn't even a pontiac it was from Australia but and it's a huge BUT there are 2 of these little beasts around where i live and believe me they make a great V8 sound are stick and can fly
the gto held its own against the new muscle!
Oh man that was a good one too bad there was only one race, I was impressed with that Pontiac that guy was slamming those gears without skipping a Beat!....👍
Love love that 4-speed GTO. Watch how the whole car drops between shifts.
My friend used to cruise his Dad's 69 judge very carefully and respectful....but I rode with his Dad and he played a bit rougher since it was His car after all.... let's just say right foot restraint is a must but 3rd gear tire spin was no real effort
I wonder if the Scat guy was surprised by the Judge. Man was that close! It seems like the manual cars have to be handled perfect and this gto sure was.
He was lol
The scat pack was my car. These events have a bunch of fast classics, no surprise besides me passing him lol
@@daviddudek8078 I had a chance to race my Z28 at US 131 this year it was a blast. I ran into a red Torino Super cobra jet last year at Milan. I saw that car featured on Cars and Zebras this year. It was fast I barley beat him
@@daviddudek8078 Whats your best ET with the stock configured Scat Pack? How much faster ET is a Hellcat? Pretty sweet for a stock car right off the lott.
Rather have the GTO any day over that Charger.... Had an 05 Charger it was fun but I'm an old school guy..
Where was no 2005 charger.
@@nicholasrice6933 😄 😄 where was no Charger R/T 5.7 335hp if l remember right? Had one fo 80k miles & got rid of it.... The front rotors kept worping for some odd reason?? 😄
I'm with you all day long!!!
Dude a 05 Charger wouldn't even come close to this Judge
@@m42037 oh ya a stock 05 would get smoked l had several mods done & a tune... My buddy had an 08 Vette that l beat every time we ran & just so happens the 08 vette identical times with this GTO. ... I never ran it at the track but beat a 12.20 vette by about 3 car lengths.... That put my 05 Charger at a 12.00 or even a 11.9...
No doubt the Dodge has the advantage of modern tire technology, not to mention computers...the GTO still held it's own. I think with a '69 Judge it would have been even closer, as I believe they were a bit lighter than the '70's. Interesting race!
The Pontiac in the video was equipped with the RAM AIR IV engine, which was the top of the food chain for Pontiac engines in 1969 that was publicly orderable. Whether or not it had The Judge option is sort of irrelevant at this point. A Judge can come with a RAM AIR III or a RAM AIR IV, same as the GTO in the video; at that point having "The Judge" is more of a sticker option than anything else
I used to own a 70 GTO. Loved that car and it was my dream car. Stoopid divorce.
I know man, it sucks and is what happened to my 68 charger RT 4speed 😥
If you are a car guy, dont get married! -my grandpa
@@independent2368 its funny how a lot of wives don't care anything about cars until "D" day. I couldn't tie mine up and drag her to a car show or a drag strip, but she sure fell in love with my 1970 RT/SE Challenger when it all went down
@@Tusuperbis, your grandpa is 100 percent right. I lost my 70 Chevelle SS because of my ex-biotch.
I sold my '68 Le Mans in 2019 to keep my truck, only cuz it broke at the dealership I got my truck and the threatened to sell my car. I should've sued or had it towed.
GTO judge is one of my favorite cars of all time. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Back in the day, the 1970 Judge posted typically 14.6 @ 99 mph to 13.2 @ 104 mph, depending on equipment, who was testing, day of test, location, etc. So this guy did one very good job with a 12.22 @ 114.5 mph.
Which makes me wonder if the GTO's engine has been "breathed on"?
@@harrystone8847 yeah, there is ZERO chance that car was bone stock..
Still though, pretty sweet.
Tires make a big difference. Think about it.
Thanks for the video! I did not expect the GTO to be so close! Great race and hilarious commentary!
I'm a Mopar guy but have always liked the Pontiac since I was a kid ridding in a friends 66 GTO 389ci and another friends 69 GTO 400ci and then my Brother bought a 1970 GTX 440ci and my love of Mopar was born.
VIEWER ALERT - Flatulence level set to “Kill” on this video.
You sir, have outdone yourself. Bravo! 👏 👏
Saw a 74 gto today. Held up traffic just to watch it move. Just beautiful.
The scat pack is my car. I have since passed it on to my fiancé. Thanks for the awesome video. Hope to see you at another F.A.S.T race!
Are you the same Dave Dudek that, if my memory is correct, used to write for Mopar Muscle magazine?
@@MoparRob440 No, you are probably thinking of my Dad (David Dudek) lol. Not sure he’s ever written for them, but he has been in plenty of their magazines.
@@daviddudek8078 I knew I remembered that name from the magazines. I went back and the writer I remember reading alot was Dulcich
There is nothing between them. Amazing that old school muscle can still keep up
It makes me wonder what would've happened with the extra 55ci in the judge?
I would love to see more of these types of races👍
Great job catching this one😎
The 455 was not available with the RA IV heads or cam. So If it was meeting the factory stock rules, the '70 GTO with the available 455 would not usually perform better than the RA IV 400 with it's much better flowing heads and hotter cam (partially because the '70 GTO 455 HO, even with it's 10.75:1 compression, did not have the round port heads or slightly hotter cam of the later '71 and '72 455 HO)
@@libertycosworth8675 thanks for the knowledge👍😎
@@libertycosworth8675 , install the ultra-rare over the counter RA V and it works be a different race.
@@mikebour454 It's not quite that simple. Most of the RA V "stuff" was sold by the piece, very few whole engines were sold, and most of those went to selected builders/racers. So if you just went the route of building one, the RA V heads had huge, very ford-like ports and required a far more rev friendly rotating assembly as well as significant camshaft and oiling changes/improvements. The 3.25 mains, nodular iron crank, and standard cast rods of the 455 would also be a problem at the higher rev range associated with the RAV valve train. In addition, all of these mods would not be allowed by the rules associated with this type of drag racing, especially since the factory never "installed" RAV (officially) in any Poncho chassis. By the way the RA V forged connecting rods were insanely heavy, and were nowhere near as strong as the early 421 SD or later 455 SD rods. There is a company making reproduction RA V heads in aluminum now too.
@@libertycosworth8675 , you sir, know your history!
I’m a Pontiac Guy have been since a little kid but I’m also a car guy and I love all cars there’s just to many bad ass cars out there to just enjoy one kind. That GTO held its own especially considering it’s a 4 speed car and weighs 4000lbs with bias tires on it I’d say not bad for the old judge at all
Here came the Judge!
Love that Judge, but just how "stock" was it really?
Fairly impressive showing by the old Pontiac! Always love to hear those engines ram through the gears!
If that GTO Ram Air 4 is blue printed, and set up for pure stock racing, it could have 435-445 HP. Combined with the lesser weight, it could account for the close times.
I'm so glad you are announcing again. Best videos on TH-cam!
One of my favorite channels. Keep up the GREAT work brother!
That was some good shifting with that GTO, very rare to see that....
Rather have the GTO
Yep and I’m a mopar guy
Great video ! Love that GTO ! Your narration is……haha😂 excellent !
Great race of old vs. new….the “Old Goat” should hold its head high. Had to laugh, Taco Bell was the lead in commercial. Thanks as always, 🌮 🌮
As usual. Very entertaining and informative video. Did either car have any mods?
That's a super close match up
Glad to see the Judge could still lay down the law
My friend has a 69 judge his Dad bought new... we used to cruise out back in the 80s epic car hard to restart after it got hot though... exhaust was too close to the starter
Great drivers. Especially the '70 GTO guy. I was surprised he kept up with the scatpack knowing these cars. Incredible. I want my '68 le mans back haha
Ram Air IV GTO was the strongest GM car built in 1970 and this is proof to their amazing performance.
1968 Ram Air 2 was a good engine
No stock 400 GTO is going to run low 12s. I expected the scat pack to blow that goat away.
Sure with that massive supercharger. It equals out what he did to make almost the same hp. Just needed slicks and he would of beat the jellybean
A race between a real car (GTO) and a computer (Charger). Bet the driver of the Charger had both hands on the steering wheel.
That’s my feeling. At this point we could probably build an AI that would outrun any driver ever born of woman, but who fucking cares?
Butlerian Jihad when?
Na, Charger driver had 1 hand on the wheel, 1 hand on a double quarter pounder.....
@@gt-37guy6 LOL love Her or Leave Her. 🇺🇸
@@gt-37guy6 😂
Of course he has both hands on the wheel how else can he use the paddle shifters .
Very close I'm happy with that!
That looks a lot like a GTO built to the letter of the rules vs. a showroom stock Scat Pack. HP calculator says a full weight GTO would need 411 horsepower, at the wheels, to go a 12.2. Never mind that's a manual transmission car.
The rules are the rules, so good on the GTO for taking advantage of them. It would be interesting to see a Scat Pack built with the same vigor. Just the 3.09 gears are a huge disadvantage.
GTO has obviously been modified to FAST rules. It's at least 2 sec faster than factory.
Correct! That's nowhere near stock.
You mean 2 sec faster than the Car&Driver yahoo's short shifted track outings. These engines are rpm monsters.I've also seen unmodified 40-50k mi RA IV's put down 370-380 RWH on a chassis dyno. That's about 450 crank HP.So with the Scat Pack's 485HP and extra weight it should be a close race.I ran 11.70's with one of these stock RA IV's but it was in a '64 LeMans weighing about 3300lbs.
4 speed manual hanging with an 8 speed automatic, damn right.
Amazing performance for the GTO. Much faster than the original stock numbers for the quarter mile.
And just maybe that poor judge should have been equipped with a butler 468 Pontiac. Or a badass 421 ho six-pack Royal bobcat tuned. I love those guys with those new dodges I've got a 65 GTO 421 6 Pack 433 rear end gears for Speed and it gives them one hell of a run
What mods where done to the Gto? Its doesnt run anywhere near that stock.
Love the old school Muscle. Both cars are awesome, but pretty different. The Charger is basically a four door, small family cruiser that runs mid 12s out the door stock, and is a fine daily driver. The other is a classic, two door muscle car purpose built for what we just witnessed...and worthy of car shows to boot. Both fine cars, both fast cars. We all should appreciate all American V8's pushrods - They are all being phased out for the electric car revolution.
Cars and Zebras ;You were extra witty on that last comment. KUDOS!
Couple of mods and the GTO would be fishing like farm truck!
Awesome , Thanks C&Z
Wonder if the Pontiac was in true stock form, or modified....still a beautiful car. With slicks that GTO could run mid to low 11's same as the 392 Scatty's. Very cool match-up!
What an Awesome performance from the Judge!!!!!!!!!!! If they did a few more runs, we'd know who the real winner is. But, even if the Judge didn't do as well as it did, I'll take any Classic American Muscle Car over anything American made today.
Couldnt agree more! Well said!
To think the GTO was on bias belted tires too. Very impressive for it's age.
And 4 speed
Beautiful old goat!
Take the GTO any day
I was interested in the matchup. It is unfortunate that the commentary was at a grade school to junior high school level at best. Crude without any humor.
Old school GM vs New Dodge computers. That's a win.
A factory stock Charger Scat Pack running a 12.19 is a complete load of scat! NFW
Both of these guys are full of shit. That GTO is a high 13 second car stock with a best trap time of 105MPH.
Blue balls, scat, and a toilet full of Halloween candy! This is what TH-cam is all about! Bravo Bravo!
Can any answer why this 370hp was able to hold it own against it vs the 370 in the 5.7 rt. Other than torque or is it as simple as the torque is what's doing it?
This time you didn't give the temperature at the drag Strip. I'm Curious. With all newer "summer tires", cool or cold temperatures mean poor traction, where as the tires (tyres) on the Pontiac will perform better in cooler temperatures as well in warmer temps. I know. My 2004 Z06 Corvette (that i bought new) ain't happy, traction wise, in cool temperatures. "Hot and Dry", watch out! Good race
What mods did it really have? Slicks? The weight seems light for that judge. I'm happy the classic held it's own tho against the modern.
Goodness there is overkill toilet humor in an otherwise cool video and awesome showdown
The Judge will always be a legend ❤️.
Best channel
Who could possibly give this a thumbs down??????????
The judge rules the defendant, MR Charger guilty.
Did you see that burnt rubber basted '😳' all over the lower quarter panels'; that's the 'money shot'.
💵
The random farts towards the end had me dying 🤣
Hey! Its like lookin in the mirror! (Jealous of that RAIV)
Charger looks too much like a riceburner , i'll take a mean ole Goat .
I mean all that technology just to get .03 seconds? I’m gonna say that the simpler machine with less horses running virtual identical time is impressive.
That tech makes the car safer, it can turn, rides better, gets 3X the gas mileage…..and it can out run the Judge (barely) for 1320 feet. Longer distances will favor the Charger with the 3.09 rear.
@@davidbattaglia2336 I’m sure that’s mostly true. Equally true is the fact that we’ve reached or nearly reached the point where one could replace the driver’s input with AI entirely and beat every human driver. But who cares? Everybody loves the purely mechanical car entirely driven by the driver which he can also work on under the shade tree without a laboratory.
If a car company could somehow legally re-tool to sell a slightly improved version of the 70 GTO or similar cars (mostly just use better materials and streamlined manufacturing techniques) it would probably out-sell the modern Charger. Regulations, insurance costs, and other things inflicted on the American people right after the GTO came out, what a tragedy…
@@cmbaileytstc The issue is that the laws have changed. Air bags, safety cages, etc add lots of weight to the car. Emission standards and gas prices mean that car companies need to take fuel efficiency into account. And, despite all that, the car companies are coming out with cars with 400+ net horsepower. This race was close due to weight and rear gear ratios (and it look like the Dodge spun em at the start).
Now - the fun bits - Ford just announced that they are selling the Mustang Mach E engines (crate) so that people can do conversions and the news article showed a 1978 Ford Pick up Truck concept car. There will be a cottage industry for converting old cars (with style in the body style) to electric cars. Will that mean the death of the ICE? Yes, that is inevitable, BUT you can have all the coolness factor of an old school car.
@@davidbattaglia2336 I’m very familiar with how emissions and fuel laws forced cars to either be underpowered or contain the fucking sensors and comps that make for nightmares or both. That’s the sort of shit I’m committed to resisting. Same with safety. Mandating belts (wear them or don’t, your option or at least it should be) and roll safety is alright, mandating airbags and ABS has driven up costs, complexity, and kept a few cool cars out of America. We are all headed for a grave anyway and I’ve watched people age into shells and die in nursing homes, I won’t complain if I go by car accident.
A simple utilitarian vehicle with an electric motor+a good ICE generator to recharge the vehicle be great actually. But between government mandated shit and corporate predilection to engineering a million features what we get will be a nightmare.
@@davidbattaglia2336 The problem isn’t ICE being replaced as most people’s daily drivers when a truly all around superior and desirable technology comes along. That’s fine. The problem is forcing everyone into electric shitboxes through coercion or outright bans BEFORE that happens. AFAIK steam cars are still perfectly legal, but you don’t see many on the road. That’s an example of natural technological progress rather than some BS “progress” being forced on the customers. (Thank God for the men who take care of the remaining steam cars though, because those things *actually are* cool).
Dude I almost had you!
Badass gto and good race.only thing holding back newer scat challenger/chargers are the tires...245s..cmon dogde.tires alone and those are 11 second cars all day long
I'll bet you really like, Terrance and Phillip.
Damn, I can't belive it was that close of a race. However, it did seem the charger didn't get that good of a start off the line. Either way, that was a close one!
Probably tough to get all the bulk moving right away without blowing off the tires. Plus it's a longer wheelbase car so might not be getting as good of weight transfer. I'm just guessing because I don't own one but I think it makes sense.
Id love to see an old scat pack race a new scat pack
Yeah but the charger should run cleaner as well. Took us a while to get the performance of pre smog Era I'd say
My turbo'd Jetta runs 11.90s and same situation on the highway: from 60-120mph, I was smoking a Scat Pack... then he flew by me, lol.
NOT a stock GTO
Looks like the GTO light came on a split second before the white car
that was my first impression. too bad there is no WIN light, I can't see one. This doesn't sound like he knows how drag races are won, hmmmm My bro worked (drag race driver) for Royal Pontiac. there's a LOT more just to this story conveniently not discussed.
Wondering how a modern muscle car is racing here as the rules say the class is only for cars up to 1979?
Wow Great race.🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🌎✌️
I just don’t get the mystique of the love affair some have with the GOAT! Back in the 60s and 70s a warmed SBC would clean their proverbial clocks!
I beat SBC and BBC, with my '70 428 GTO. Even beat street bikes the first 3 city blocks. Supras, Hemis, BMW's, Honda CBR 600.
I seriously doubt that, and that's coming from a Ford Guy. My buddy in Highschool had a 69 GTO, 400 Ram Air 3 Engine, But we did put Headers on it, 750 Holley, MSD 6A, Electronic Ignition, and a Crane Cam that was Exact Specs as Factory Ram Air 4 Cam, 10" 3000 stall Converter, TH400 with Shift Kit, and i believe it had 3.55,s out back. And that Car NEVER saw the Taillights of ANY Small Block Chevy. Even took out a 396 Chevelle 3 times in a row, i remember that cause i flagged all 3 races years ago. And it was definitely the Quickest Car in our Highschool Parking Lot.
I thought Goats back then we're 13/14 second cars?
maybe.
But this one is not 'as purchased' from the factory.

they are pretty close tie but both are best winners anyway.
Charger has all the computer assisted launch skid blah blah blah control. GTO EVERY DAY ALL DAY!! I go for pure RAW power and test pilot “seat of your pants” feel ALWAYS
The modern Charger is a very heavy car so this race doesn't surprise me at all. Modern Muscle IS much faster than the older generation cars. Look at the 1/4 mile and 0-60 times from the 60's and 70's and compare them to today. Also understand that todays modern engines are getting these crazy horsepower numbers and complying with modern emissions requirements. The engines from the 60's and 70's wouldn't have nearly the power if they had the emission controls we have on the modern engines. We actually have Toyota Camrys today with similar 0-60 times of some the older muscle cars.
The guy in the 392 was asleep at the wheel. I think were giving the PONTIAC too much credit.
How about 455 Judge next time??? I think 12.20 is beyond good for a 400!
I don't think the 455 was available in the Judge this year until very late and then it just used the standard port heads not the high performance round port. Besides the Ram Air IV 400 was pretty much the pinnacle of performance even though smaller CID.
I'm not a Pontiac guy, but I've always heard the 400 was a better Engine than the 455. I've heard that numerous times, especially a Ram Air IV 400.
Dang, very close.
That GTO was NOT stock!
I came here because Motorious doesn't allow comments on Yahoo. I understand why. Usually a Motorious article has lots of wrong information, or is written like they are a 9 year old, and people know the right stuff and point out how off the authors are.
