There are a ton of single-player games out there. The videogame genre started with single-player games, lol. You just have to look a little. Depending on your playstyle, Steam has literally thousands to choose from. A bunch of good stuff came out last year (do I even need to mention Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwart's Legacy, and Elden Ring?). Before the corps ruined everything, there were a bunch of greats out there. FPS's, Horror, City/World Builder, 4X, Open World/Explore, Strategy; you name it, they're out there.
I can't stress this enough: How hard my eyes fucking roll anytime I hear a sniff of "open world" "online" "with PvP elements" I like PvP I like shooters I like open world Unless I was watching footage of the gameplay or previews I couldn't tell you which was which. Only 3 games sounded different from each other.

We need more RTS games like Warcraft and Starcraft but not always online. I got a hold of Empire Earth on GOG and that's one of my favorites because you start in prehistoric times and build your city all the way to the future. So much fun! A game can take all the time you want it to. Age of Empires was another good one and they're releasing Age of Mythology Retold next month.
Is it crazy to hope that John Carpenter did the music for Toxic Commando? He’s such an iconic composer. The end credits music from Escape From New York is my ringtone.
You completely missed the "spin" in Forever Winter. In that game you are not the hero, you are not the Dragonborn, you are not from Vault 101, you are not participating in the active conflict. You're the rat. Just one of the NPC's in the town of Megaton. There are two warring factions going at it constantly; neither of them cares for you or even know who the f you are, and your goal is to survive by scavenging through the battlefield. They got you beat by miles in fire and manpower and you are not affiliated with anything but their precious loot.
@@WELDINGWIZARD1 Sky Harvest, a cozy farming game that I have been working on from past year. It was featured by Steam during Farming Fest which subsequently got me an exclusive interview with IGN as well. ☺
About Atomfall: Rebellion also does Strange Brigade, and for anyone who hasn't checked that game out, you are doing yourself a dis-service. Visually, it is one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous games I've ever seen. It is truly amazing. And a very fun game, too. Since Atomfall is a Rebellion game, it's a guaranteed "YES" from me. Good list, Jake and Gameranx.
Great list! Another title to keep an eye on is Immortal Gates of Pyre. While it’s an RTS, it’s got a unique, gritty vibe that might scratch that post-apocalyptic itch you’re looking for.
I love rouge-likes' replayability. The randomly generated rooms, randomly (but usually lightly influenced upgrades) that are bot persistent, with seperate perks that are.... I think we can apply this to a lot more genres than hack & slash games.
First three entries "Yeah they'll probably suck but we'll see", next entry "Looks interesting, isn't coming out for a long time though", next entry "Yeah...looks okay". BUT DON"T MISS THEM
The Forever Winter Please watch a dedicated video on this. They give a surface level preview, not hating on that, but these are some of the things to expect. You are at the bottom of the food chain. AI are battling one another, the AI adapts and reacts. Example: You are running along, weaving between cover with only a pistol/nothing. AI soldiers see you and deem you not a threat, they pass on. That same scenario but you have a rifle, they perceive you as a threat and attack. Another example: You are in a sector silenting taking down enemies. The AI WILL notice this and send stronger enemies to hunt down the rogue variable. Another Example: You can happen upon two groups fighting and take one or two off from a distance and they will not notice. If you get greedy they will split resources to find you. I could keep going
And not just that but the AI react to one another, they learn and base strategy off what their opponent does or has done. They will not funnel soldiers in the same way, they will take a different path. They will strengthen their side with elite machines. They(developers) base their idea on "pockets". These pockets are instances of patrols or battles. They move. You can be off in the distance watching a full on slugfest behind a piece of scrap
You're immersed in a post-apocalyptic world scavenging for resources, managing your thirst and hunger, counting your bullets and trying to find a safe place to spend the night preferably where you can safely set up a cozy campfire... suddenly, "YoMAMAon4's" crosses your path doing a naruto run shooting at you, killing and teabaging you! boy... such immersion!
I always wanted to try S.T.A.L.K.E.R but i never got around to it, still for me, having a ton of games i want to play is a great problem to have personally, it means there's always something new to play :)
If anyone is on the fence with the stalker console editions, they play great and are just as fun and immersive as the original PC games unmodded and I've been having a blast playing on the ps5.
And for anyone upset about the delays, don't forget one of the main developers of the original Stalker games was Killed In Action in Ukraine defending his home against a senseless Russian invasion.
I played the first playtest for Arc Raiders in 2023 and it was pretty fun. Needed more content like traders, quests, etc. but the maps, guns, combat was pretty solid.
The "Forever Winter" game was not done enough justice You are a survivor in a war between 2 factions. There is Rogue AI machines, troops with their own objective and you are in the middle of the battlefield looking for supplies.
Im a month late but Im SO glad that Pioner was mentioned in this video. Im hyped for it, but also understand it seems very sketchy at this time. I recommend people looking into it and supporting it by telling friends so it isnt dead on arrival and has a strong community. Last I heard theyre focusing on marketing the game with trailers and adverts now after putting a lot of funding and time into the game itself. It wont release this year though, each year they say it will then they push it to the next year because they wanna launch the game with as little problems as possible and they dont have a rigid time to release by their publisher thankfully
SoD3 and Showa America Story are the only ones I'm really interested in. The rest being all FPS (not usually my thing) and/or "looter/shooter", "extraction shooter" or "PvPvE" just turn me right off. A proper MMO, like Ashfall, might be alright, but, for example, as soon as I learned Arc Raiders, which looks really interesting, is an extraction shooter, I was out. Man, give me that world in a SP (w/ optional multiplayer), or even something like The Division, and I'd be all over it!
This is amazing. I thought I was the only one who wanted nothing whatsoever to do with multiplayer. Then I read the comment section and feel vindicated. It's clearly not just me looking for those solid single player experiences.
Maybe I missed it but you didn't even mention the intent behind "The Forever Winter." The idea is that you are not the badass hero. You are not that guy. You are the scavenger. The survivor. The rat, hiding in the shadows, snatching the drops of enemies that you would not stand a chance against on your own. Following twenty steps behind a roaming company of better fighters as they carve a path through the chaos for you to take advantage of. And they don't care that you're there until you prove yourself to be a threat.
Me and my friends discuss this all the time. We concluded that the prefect zombie survival game would have the gameplay, graphics and perspective of Dead Island/Dying Light, the map size and environment variety of a dystopian GTA5 and Skyrim, The RPG and scavenging elements of fallout 4 (including the dialogue options, skill, stats and morality choices), the need for water, sleep, and food, variety and ability to make any and every building a base from supplies and make survivor communities from State Of Decay, the horde events, fun gameplay and chaotic moments of Left 4 Dead, the story immersion of the Last Of Us, the exploration/ large variety of random events/ side quests from RDR2/ Skyrim/ Fallout 4, the gameplay element of being able to send out survivors to do certain errands around the city/countryside from Assassins Creed and an ever changing amount of/ difficulty/concentration/variety of zombies from day to day across the map where certain city districts and sections of the map have “The Swarm” for a day or so-making duties or missions in that area impossible/very difficult for a few days until it moves to another area of the map i.e the AI director in the Left For Dead to encourage replay ability.

After the episode, Chuck made it through the game without clues. Steve then said "Did you use clues?". Then Chuck Norris took his disguise off and roundhouse kicked Steve in the face without a word. That was 16 years ago.

Thank God we have post-apocalyptic games on the way... there certainly weren't enough of them. Post-apocalypse to me means "We couldn't think of anything creative, so we just gave up and made dirty people running from zombies".
Some series i get like SOD3 but this has been going on for ever. Every time one developer makes a great game , thats all we get for years. We went through space games, only pvp and other eras where if you werent into it , your done. Now its this.
One of my favorite (most played) franchises is Borderlands. Amongst all games in the series, I probably have close to _5,000 hours,_ and it grew repetitive. *Tiny Tina's Wonderlands* came along, and breathed new life into the whole series. I'm a gamer from so far back, I played D&D *on paper* when I got a couple of books and an expansion (Keep on the Borderlands) when I got it for _Christmas of '79._ Post-apocalyptic scenarios and worlds are really limited. They can't have tech too far from what we Humans know now, or it doesn't sit right in the mind. But medieval settings, time periods? Sorcerers, Mages, Magicians? Knights, Paladins, Rangers? Necromancers, Elementalists, Warlocks, and Demon Hunters? Uh.... How many post-apocalyptic games let you play as an Orc, an Elf, or a Kajit? Compare all games of both genres (medieval fantasy RPG, hack-and-slash, isometric, ARPG, etc.), against Borderlands, Dying Light, and others, and I'd bet my life Skyrim/Diablo/Dark Souls-type games outshine post-apocalypse games 100 to 1. In Borderlands, I can customize and drive a badass truck. In World of Warcraft, I can customize and drive a badass _DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!_ I see the merits of post-apoc, but it's too limited for my giant brain (lol). When Tiny Tina's Wonderlands (TTWL) announced they were releasing "Post Launch Content" (PLC) and it was something JoltzDude137 could finish in 7:45 (2:00 of which is on a timer), I was crushed. In MY gaming world, that's the biggest tragedy I've ever experienced. I began to HATE the stories of BL3 and even 2 after ~45 characters to OP10 in BL2 (that's the story 135 times!!!). I'll fire up Wonderlands at the drop of a hat, and spend 2 hours just in the Character Creator! TTWL had sooooooo much potential, and they just quit. They quit. WTactualF, GEARBOX??????? Sorry for the rambling, I started typing this at 5:15 am while full of sleeping pills but heartburn pulled me out of the bliss. Waiting for the Alka-Seltzer to kick in so I don't yak Skittles all over the place!
Hell with PvP, MM, or any of that ilk. I want continuations of the good single player games. Dishonored, Mad Max, Doom, Shadow of War, etc. Even just a follow up to the cliffhanger in Titanfall 2 single player campaign.
I just started replaying the stalker series as well as chernobylite. I've been playing a lot of really old games made from before 2010 back when developers actually cared about their games. On my current playthrough of Shadow of Chernobyl I have 15 hours
I’d love an immersive sim roadtrip game. You got a route across a wasteland, from point A to point B and along the way you got multiple POI where you can stop to refuel or to scavenge. These place can be really small or decently big like hub world à la Deus Ex where you can find missions and stuff.
Into the Radius 2, ZONA Origin and ConVRgence. They are VR titles so not quite as approachable as others, but man, their settings are sweet. Kind of a STALKER/Metro vibe on all the above.
I've always loved Wild Wild West, never really understood why it's so disliked. I recently watched the original series on MeTV and it seems even more like it's in line with it origins to me. What didn't you like about it?

Totally agree. I replayed Days Gone last month, and it is literally crying out for a sequel.
Quite a number of the games on this video seemed similar to Days gone. Seems a crazy decision not to create a sequel, almost spite, or being wilfully contrary
@@71simonforresterthe original didn't sell well initially mainly due to tepid reviews so although it's picked up steam since the decision was made a long time ago to shelve a sequel fingers crossed it'll happen someday though
Wouldn't go that far as comparing it to Last of Us, but Days Gone is definitely one of the most underrated games. Ome of my favourites from last gen.
I've replayed days gone about 4 times. I love the equipment and the story. He's not a badass, just was lucky. Please give us what we want. I won't buy a single game listed in this video.
As soon as I saw the walking fortress in the desert I immediately went huh someone likes wild wild west, you're not the only one who remembers that gem of a film Jake.
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of single-player games
There are a ton of single-player games out there. The videogame genre started with single-player games, lol. You just have to look a little. Depending on your playstyle, Steam has literally thousands to choose from. A bunch of good stuff came out last year (do I even need to mention Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwart's Legacy, and Elden Ring?). Before the corps ruined everything, there were a bunch of greats out there. FPS's, Horror, City/World Builder, 4X, Open World/Explore, Strategy; you name it, they're out there.
@@williamyoung9401 Calm down brother, they were talking about in this video
Yup, just talking about the video))
Almost half the game on the video are single player, wdym?
bro really ignored STALKER
Imagine all the microtransactions these games will have 😂
Yes and most of them will die in a couple of years.
10$ for fkin blue :D xD
@ARach-lv5wc. More like a couple of months. The trend of micro transaction lasting a couple years for a company to milk "consumers" is shortening.
The only thing STALKER 2 has is the pre order, nothing else
Imagine how many GTA 6 will have
I can't stress this enough:
How hard my eyes fucking roll anytime I hear a sniff of "open world" "online" "with PvP elements"
I like PvP
I like shooters
I like open world
Unless I was watching footage of the gameplay or previews I couldn't tell you which was which.
Only 3 games sounded different from each other.
cry more
The SAND, STALKER 2, and Exekiller sound different.
open world is literaly the greatest genre there is... yall are so annoying complaining about it all the time when literaly the best games ever are only as good as they are because it's open world
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's waiting for a great single player post apocalyptic game. I feel like i complain a lot on this channels comments, but i know what i like and what i want, and 2D games, PvPvE, MMO, and raid games isn't it.
Every time I see these clips from Exekiller, i can't help but notice that the gas station and motel are almost 1.1 copies of the gas station and motel in the outskirts from Cyberpunk 2077. Am I crazy?
Yes! I thought the exact same thing!
Holy shit, this is the first time I've seen a clip from Exekiller and immediately thought of the outskirts abandoned towns from CP77
clearly inspired by it.
12:54 Frostpunk? Trun-based? Have you been drinking much lately?
Sometimes they just don't know what they are talking about. Falcon has called Civilization an RTS and a city builder.
Say what? I did know that he also composed music as well....I'm gonna check that out. He's an icon
I'm a big fan. A massive inspiration to me.
Gameranx is always making my day. Thanks guys.
They got you beat by miles in fire and manpower and you are not affiliated with anything but their precious loot.
is killing floor 3 counting?? haha
Great video!
I hope to see my Farming game in upcoming list of yours... 👀
Good luck to you mate hope you get that mention !!!
What game ?
@@WELDINGWIZARD1 Sky Harvest, a cozy farming game that I have been working on from past year. It was featured by Steam during Farming Fest which subsequently got me an exclusive interview with IGN as well. ☺
The forever winter looks absolutely incredible, and an original idea too
YOU LABELED THE CHAPTERS WITH THE ACTUAL GAME TITLES!!!!!! Finally 🙌🏻
Lol :)
Huge sucker for Post Apocalyptic games, dopamine hit like a truck for finding just a bullet sometimes.
Or finding gun very early
so many of these look amazing!
The forever winter is definitely my most anticipated game
Im pretty over looters at this point, but that one does sound like an interesting idea.
Great list! Another title to keep an eye on is Immortal Gates of Pyre. While it’s an RTS, it’s got a unique, gritty vibe that might scratch that post-apocalyptic itch you’re looking for.
Looter shooter? Yeah I'll pass on that slop.
I love rouge-likes' replayability. The randomly generated rooms, randomly (but usually lightly influenced upgrades) that are bot persistent, with seperate perks that are....
I think we can apply this to a lot more genres than hack & slash games.
Ahhh one of my favorite science fiction sub-genres, in which humanity dooms itself
Love the pfp but Gear 5 is better 😉
@@iKrazyyi haha I gotta find a G5 picture as good as this one, this scene was just so fire yo
@captainziggy82 oh no doubt. Peak Piece is on top!
Frostpunk 2 is looking great! I already liked the art style of the first, but they seem to have taken it up a notch.
We can’t wait to check that one out too :)
First three entries "Yeah they'll probably suck but we'll see", next entry "Looks interesting, isn't coming out for a long time though", next entry "Yeah...looks okay". BUT DON"T MISS THEM
Maybe they meant don’t wanna miss the chance to point and laugh at a bunch of flops?
I'm so glad that "The Forever War" was talked about because this game looks amazing and seeing the behind the scenes of it ....
It looks awesome...
We’re interested to seeing how that one does! Thanks for watching :)
Alan Partridge ‘People like them. Let’s make more of them’ - I’m off to play Monkey Tennis
I had heard of them all except for Ascent of Ashes, which looks to be right up my alley. Good list !
The Forever Winter
Please watch a dedicated video on this.
Another example:
You are in a sector silenting taking down enemies. The AI WILL notice this and send stronger enemies to hunt down the rogue variable.
Another Example:
You can happen upon two groups fighting and take one or two off from a distance and they will not notice.
You forgot "The Day Before" 10/10 rooting for it 😍
My favorite Post Apocalyptic type games on PC so far (in no particular order): Fallout series, Borderlands series, Days Gone, Prey and Metro 2033.
I love Post Apolcalyptic themes, Movies, tv-series and games!
Totally hyped. I recently finished Metro Exodus and I have itch that I can't get rid of for more Post-Apocalyptic games.
I always wanted to try S.T.A.L.K.E.R but i never got around to it, still for me, having a ton of games i want to play is a great problem to have personally, it means there's always something new to play :)
Do it
If anyone is on the fence with the stalker console editions, they play great and are just as fun and immersive as the original PC games unmodded and I've been having a blast playing on the ps5.
And for anyone upset about the delays, don't forget one of the main developers of the original Stalker games was Killed In Action in Ukraine defending his home against a senseless Russian invasion.
4:15 Pee owner
I played the first playtest for Arc Raiders in 2023 and it was pretty fun. Needed more content like traders, quests, etc. but the maps, guns, combat was pretty solid.
The "Forever Winter" game was not done enough justice
You are a survivor in a war between 2 factions. There is Rogue AI machines, troops with their own objective and you are in the middle of the battlefield looking for supplies.
I had a lot of fun with the Ashfall beta. There was some issues but I hope things were fixed and comes out better!
10:43 - clever? Somebody didn't see Mortal Engines then.
I know I didn’t.
No one should be seeing Mortal Engines. Read the books instead.
@@P.M_MThis
Im a month late but Im SO glad that Pioner was mentioned in this video. Im hyped for it, but also understand it seems very sketchy at this time. I recommend people looking into it and supporting it by telling friends so it isnt dead on arrival and has a strong community. Last I heard theyre focusing on marketing the game with trailers and adverts now after putting a lot of funding and time into the game itself. It wont release this year though, each year they say it will then they push it to the next year because they wanna launch the game with as little problems as possible and they dont have a rigid time to release by their publisher thankfully
Don't trust majority of these games being good 💀
Most of them are multiplayer games and I have no hope that these will be good💀
@@solid_2077 I was interested when I saw a Terminator game in the search bar....then I heard multiplayer and that interest disappeared.
Don't trust the opinion of some rando on the internet who probably doesn't even play games
@@jimmythegamer2231 Especially if they have 'thegamer' in their username.
j/k 😁
Well stalker 2 will most likely be good. However gsc had to relocate because of the Russian-Ukraine war.
7 days to die just got 1.0 release
We concluded that the prefect zombie survival game would have the gameplay, graphics and perspective of Dead Island/Dying Light, the map size and environment variety of a dystopian GTA5 and Skyrim, The RPG and scavenging elements of fallout 4 (including the dialogue options, skill, stats and morality choices), the need for water, sleep, and food, variety and ability to make any and every building a base from supplies and make survivor communities from State Of Decay, the horde events, fun gameplay and chaotic moments of Left 4 Dead, the story immersion of the Last Of Us, the exploration/ large variety of random events/ side quests from RDR2/ Skyrim/ Fallout 4, the gameplay element of being able to send out survivors to do certain errands around the city/countryside from Assassins Creed and an ever changing amount of/ difficulty/concentration/variety of zombies from day to day across the map where certain city districts and sections of the map have “The Swarm” for a day or so-making duties or missions in that area impossible/very difficult for a few days until it moves to another area of the map i.e the AI director in the Left For Dead to encourage replay ability.
the giant mechanical spider from wild wild west yes!!
Thanks for another banger set of reviews Jake. 🔥🔥 🔥 🎮
I'm already sad that so many of these will not see the daylight...or are published as unfinished.
Half of them need to end now and stop wasting money,
Thanks for the vids 🔥❤️
I can't hear " looter shooter" anymore. it should get banned!
Banned? Lil extreme if you ask me
I guess everyone who likes that genre should just go screw themselves because you don't like them
I still can’t get enough of them.
I can’t hear Jake say “seemingly” anymore. Dude says it like 10 times every video. lol but I still love him
You could just not play them.
Jake, I’m excited about Frost punk too🙏
Dear friends. Never pre order, in this day and age. Much love to the GR community. ❤
Yeah dude i agree, it feeds trash! I saw the new cod is up for pre order, had to look and its like number 8 in sales...... Number 8 and its not even done. FFS people stop.
The Forever Winter is my most anticipated IF they can land it.
Stalker 2 is my want of the year though
post-apocalyptic near-future potato potato
I'm excited for the Quiet Place game c:
Man is it so hard to ask for a post apocalyptic game thats not zombie, magic or mech? Just do a post apocalyptic rpg of 1 town working together with a good narrative story. Seems obvious. Yet no ones doing it.
So Steampunk 1 & 2 then.....😅
@Indo-Aryan9644 aaaahhhhhhh. No no no haha 😆
15:40 I loved what you said: here you have the gadget and the weapons and you have this, you have that... and I was just thinking but where are that guy's arms?
Once on Blue's Clues, when Steve Burns was ill, Chuck Norris came to the show and disguised like Steve to let the children not know that Chuck Norris was on Blue's Clues. After the episode, Chuck made it through the game without clues. Steve then said "Did you use clues?". Then Chuck Norris took his disguise off and roundhouse kicked Steve in the face without a word. That was 16 years ago.
...wut?
Congrats on 8 million subs. Not sure when it happened but thats wild!
i am SO TIRED of these new games seeming like cool ideas and settings but just being pvpve like its hard not to see it as someone from the top asking if this game could be online multiplayer somehow to add in battle passes and microtransactions like can we just get normal video games again? i hate it here man...
11th game mentioned Toxic Commando. Reminds me of a spiritual successor to Days Gone. LOVE THAT GAME.
Thank God we have post-apocalyptic games on the way... there certainly weren't enough of them.
Post-apocalypse to me means "We couldn't think of anything creative, so we just gave up and made dirty people running from zombies".
Well said. I'm so bored of these same old themes over and over again.
@@DanHammonds Thanks! And I agree.
I'm a gamer from so far back, I played D&D *on paper* when I got a couple of books and an expansion (Keep on the Borderlands) when I got it for _Christmas of '79._
Post-apocalyptic scenarios and worlds are really limited.
In World of Warcraft, I can customize and drive a badass _DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!_
I see the merits of post-apoc, but it's too limited for my giant brain (lol).

That's called RAGE, Jake.
I'm looking forward to Metro and Terminator when they launch
State of decay 3 is NEVER coming out 😮😮😢😢 its been 5 years now
I'm so hyped for it but I doubt it'll come out anytime soon
Let them cook!
If they'd release it too early and buggy you ALL would say what people always say in that situation "Take more time next time!".
yeah let them cook. im excited too, but i can wait!
five years isn't that long dude once you get a bit older you'll realize how short five even ten years actually is
Do they still up date the second one?

Oh, so now you can name the chapters instead of using numbers...do that to all your following "top 10" list videos from now on, sincerely everyone.
I don't even look with gameranx, I take the journey lol
Hell with PvP, MM, or any of that ilk. I want continuations of the good single player games. Dishonored, Mad Max, Doom, Shadow of War, etc. Even just a follow up to the cliffhanger in Titanfall 2 single player campaign.
Pvpve, looter shooter online mmorpg😢😢😢. I miss original games man
Gameranx daily videos are THE Best 🎉
Wild Wild West mentioned cements this channel as one of the best on TH-cam
I just started replaying the stalker series as well as chernobylite. I've been playing a lot of really old games made from before 2010 back when developers actually cared about their games. On my current playthrough of Shadow of Chernobyl I have 15 hours
SAND looks awesome, I'm a sucker for steampunk type settings.
I appreciate that Wild Wild West reference more than ANYTHING lmao, thank u Jake
lol thanks for watching!
I’d love an immersive sim roadtrip game. You got a route across a wasteland, from point A to point B and along the way you got multiple POI where you can stop to refuel or to scavenge. These place can be really small or decently big like hub world à la Deus Ex where you can find missions and stuff.
Metro being VR makes me happy for the VR community but sad for myself because I dont play VR but i thoroughly love the Metro series
Into the Radius 2, ZONA Origin and ConVRgence. They are VR titles so not quite as approachable as others, but man, their settings are sweet. Kind of a STALKER/Metro vibe on all the above.
Thanks Jake... I was good with forgetting the Wild Wild West desaster but you brought it up again ;)
I've always loved Wild Wild West, never really understood why it's so disliked. I recently watched the original series on MeTV and it seems even more like it's in line with it origins to me.
What didn't you like about it?
