I don't know how it was possible but I respect Terry Crews even more. Here's what Ricegum fails to understand, China isn't hyper racialised like the US is, where he might see it as an Asian guy making fun of and stereotyping other Asians, the Chinese just see it as an American making fun of and stereotyping Chinese people.
I don't think Nigerians would like it if a Black American came to Nigeria and started making fun of their culture, I don't think us Irish would like it if a White American went to Ireland and started making fun of our culture.

As far as Chinese people being racist against other Chinese people, If you aren't Han Chinese you are a second rate citizens along; I'm talking about the 20% of China who are 1 of 40+ Chinese ethnic minorities. The ironic thing is though that while kids indoctrinated that they are Han in school, a large portion are not and it's done for the sake of Chinese nationalism.
If you are a white tourist you're fawned over in the less touristy areas however if you stay for too long like white English teachers or expats, you are deemed a: white devil, a sex-pat, loser back home, a foreign spy which will earn you a visit from the police. If you marry a Chinese local, you'll be given a hard time for similar reasons in addition to people being aggressive toward you because you took one of their women who they'll call ugly.
Non white teachers need not apply for English teaching positions because schools will get pestered by parents why their child isn't being taught by a white person even if the minority English teacher has perfect fluency.
Non white people are undesirable in a lot of fields outside of teaching, including advertisements.
The Chinese in general hate the Japanese and Taiwanese.
It is a battle with in laws as a foreigner to marry a local Chinese girl and will often go to such lengths as threatening to disown the daughter. Sometimes you can reason with the in laws by putting up a massive dowry (payment) and have the money right away to buy their daughter a home.

From what iv'e seen in jackass (i'll admit i haven't watched everything) almost everything they did was exclusively self-harming, they never bothered other people or made them the concept of their jokes.

Also jackass' target audience was young adults and older teenagers, and all the crazy shit they pulled was the things they knew (and the audience knew) that the audience wouldn't do, shouldn't do, nobody watched at home and went "OH that's a great idea I should jump into a bull ring with live bulls too!"
Unlike gum's or the paul brothers content, which is mostly flexing their money and selling an extravagant (mostly obnoxious) lifestyle to kids that are in fact their main audience, they're not even trying to hide it, have tried looking at parts of the "jake paul tour"? literally a bunch of kids in a hall for 4 hours listening to poorly written "sketches" and songs that are about how much money they have and how successful they are.
Yes there are some rare occasions like logan's "fighting a bear" video, that was pretty cool, and was clearly the kind of "don't try this at home" attitude that jackass had. But even then it was 90% set up and 10% action, unlike jackass that were at least 50% action, you didn't watch an episode of jackass and have 18 minutes of them explaining what they're about to do only to then have 2 minutes of action.

I’m genuinely annoyed by RiceGum’s actions. I realize that as a Canadian-Chinese person, I am obviously biased, but from what I’ve gathered, RiceGum is not actually Chinese. He is Vietnamese.
And while there is a close history between Vietnam and China, they are still not the same country and still not the same culture. And as many people see China and Taiwan/Hong Kong are different from each other, then here Vietnam and China should also be differentiated. And in this case, once this differentiation is made, it makes this story so much more irritating.
RiceGum claimed to be Chinese when he is not. He does not understand HK or Chinese culture. And since he’s so clearly raised in America, he shows even a disconnect to Vietnam.
And this disconnect makes his claims of joking as someone experiencing these stereotypes immediately refuted. Taking a look at his own example, comedians such as black comedians who joke about black people and fried chicken are talking about their own experiences. RiceGum is not.
While racism is often thrown around loosely now, and some will think RiceGum was not racist, it’s still racially insensitive that he’d go around asking for cat meat (“meow meow”), dogs, and “ching chang chong”. It’s ignorant, stupid, and unfunny. Given his fanbase, he is also perpetuating stupidity.
And obviously, even without the race angle, his entire trip is just a massive dump of rude behaviour that should not be tolerated. Rude tourists from other countries are criticized here in North America, so rude tourists from North America should also be criticized. Respect is key in all cultures.

Actually, chances are some of them CAN speak English, especially those in the financial district. They just decide not to bother with someone as stupid as Ricegum. Hong Kong was only recently given back to China from British rule, but during that era, they taught English in schools.

You go Terry! There is still so much stigma against victims of sexual assault and there are always people out there that will have the "why didn't you do more" mindset. It doesn't matter your gender, you can be assaulted, you can feel shame that you didnt do more, you can feel shock that it's happening and not know how to react. Yo Bo Its pricey to live there especially if you went to a private school like I did. I also dont recommend for people to raise families there because of multiple reasons. Its an amazing place to live when you are a young adult or touristing. But usually kids go to uni overseas and then return to HK afterwards. I just ended up staying in the states cuz a lot of my dads side of the fam is here since hes American.
But you should totally make it a destination to visit at least once!
Hi Kuumelon, yes thanks for the input. I havent been to HK but Ive been to China and I thought there were too many people. I dont know if or when I can go back to Asia to explore more countries. I like how many Asians I know like to keep their own mind on what they are doing and not what others are doing.

As an Asian I see similarities with the Jeremy Lam (Chinese dress controversy) and RiceGum situation. Where you have two Asian Americans who think because they look Asian they can say or do certain things with some kind of authority but in reality they have both lost touch with and have a lack of understanding of Asian culture. I think such individuals maybe somewhat confused/conflicted over what their own Asian identity and culture is.

Pardon me but might I remind you that many Asian American girls were mocked for wearing their ethnic dresses while a white girl got praised for it? I was insulted at school so much that I refused to wear any of my chinese dresses in public. That's my issue, there's a double standard. Asians in America will either be ignored when they wear their beautiful traditional outfits or told that they're being too Asian and that they should go back to their "home country". I will agree that she looked pretty but why the difference in treatment?
As a new immigrant to US, I got your points. Like Italian American is not Italian. And I noticed the strikingly different reaction between local Chinese and Chinese American in the case of Chinese dress. So I would not identify myself as a Asian American even though I got a citizenship. I don't share the experience of upbringing in Asian Church, fierce competition in SAT test , stereotype of being feminine Asian man.

Speaking as a 1st gen Asian immigrant living in the west for 10 years. In my personal experience, most 2nd gen Asian immigrants have a complicated relationship with their cultural backgrounds, many struggles to find belongings in both their ethnic culture and the social culture they grew up in. Of course, there are individuals who do hold on to their roots and were stigmatised, but it is worth pointing out that the reaction to an ABC or White wear the same dress are coming from two different demographics, do you honestly believe that the same people who scrutinise an ABC for wearing a cultural garment will give a white girl a pass just cuz she's white? In any cases, cultural exclusivity would not help the situation, if not, only justify xenophobic claims disguised as cultural protection like "We respect other cultures but we believe each culture should stay where they are to maintain its purity etc.... " Such act would only halt the progression towards a multicultural society. The fools build walls, the wise build bridges. Instead of claiming exclusivity over culture, how about we share its beauty with others, educate others of a different perspective, and foster understanding instead of hostility between cultures.

If I called you a person from New Zealand or Britain, would you appreciate me calling you the same thing, or stereotyping you for ‘put the shrimp on the barbecue’. I’m sure you wouldn’t. Also, culture is different all around. In Asia, we don’t like it when our culture is disrespected or one areas behaviour is said as ‘all of us do the same thing’.
