I studied with his dad, Sonny Igoe for three years and remember him talking about his little son, Tommy. I met Tommy in New Jersey at a gig of his. Nice guy, said his father had that "thing" when playing behind a big band. I knew what he meant because when Sonny played a ride beat rhythm for me on the drum set, it had so much pop and drive. All in the family I guess.
Tommy is a 2nd generation musician. His dad, Sonny Igoe used to play with the likes of Benny Goodman and Woody Herman. In today's terms, that would be like playing for Taylor Swift or something.
@@heidiheidiho6412 Sonny Igoe was also well-known drum educator in his own right. One of my favourite drummers - Jason Rullo - was a student of his, I discovered as such several years ago :)
Incredibly clean but somehow not quotable. His playing is the perfect example of great technique and amazing dynamic control. His phrasing somehow methodical and over engineered.bim sorry but its my real reaction. Love the stick control and technique. Im not impressed by the phrasing though and the licks arent grabbing my ear like coliauta or even steve smith. Dont know why. Maybe im missing something. Let me know here anyways
