Amazing design except the grille. We'll see the more time goes by if I get used to it or not. I love the headlights and tail lights. I think that part of the front grill that was filled in with the white should have been left black. It looks odd that the black grill stops just above the Lexus emblem.
I absolutely hate the grille. They nailed it with everything else, though. I personally liked the big grille. I thought the out going model looked so futuristic when it first came out.
A more cohesive design? The least cohesive part of the previous generation's design, in my opinion at least, is the C pillar area, with that awkward kink in the window sill, and the not-very-flowing curve above that. The new RX keeps that area almost unchanged, while adding less striking nose and tail treatments which I honestly think a lot of people won't recognise as being a Lexus, especially with the removal of the stylized 'L' badge from the tailgate - so many automakers seem to be ditching their traditional badges for their name spelled out in letters that it's hard to tell some vehicles apart until you're close enough to read those letters!
I generally disagree as the C pillar i find quite attractive. Also, i was one of the people who hated the big hourglass grills, so that is a step-up for me. I do agree about the spelling out of the name. Can't really find the logic behind it. It feels like going downmarket instead of up, less brand recognition as you mentioned. Does anybody even prefer the manufacturers doing such things?
@@RC-117 i actually quite like the grill of the previous rx and thought it was distinctive, this new design is awful idk who is designing these new cars but they should be fired
Doug chill out and wait 5 seconds the 360 camera on Lexus does the spin then gives you the top down view that you want and you can usually zoom or select areas to get a better view
I’m noticing a trend of car reviewers posting reviews of cars they’re not allowed to drive. Personally, I think that these reviewers should turn down the option to review until the models are drivable. How can we be sure that this Lexus doesn’t run like shit?? These types of videos will have a reverse effect. Rather than gaining new subscribers for being the first to review, you’ll instead drop current subscribers who’ll lose interest in reviews that don’t show actual drive-ability….That being said, I do appreciate that Doug never seems influenced and usually calls it as he sees it. Side note: Kia’s and Hyundai’s are also equipped with cooled rear seats. Seems pretty common place these days.
Idk if it's just me! But the old styling design is more beautiful than the new Gen, imagine it with the rear light bar from the New gen!! Cuz the front already still looks attractive
How about a first gen g35 review? I just owned one in all wheel drive, 2004, I was shocked at all the features it had, pop up screen nav, etc. Great drivers car as well
great review, surprised doug didn't bring up the ambient lighting. I really like the backlight look of it which further shows off pieces of the interior design. I much prefer it over the blinding light strips that Mercedes tends to use.
Thanks again Dog for an awesome review even though you could not get to test drive the new RX it was still pretty informative. My wife and I have had many RX 350s. That’s her car of choice. I was recently at my Lexus dealer having our 2022 serviced and was told that the new four-cylinder RX requires premium gasoline. The fact that the RX never required premium fuel was one of the selling points for us. It seemed that all the competitors required premium fuel. Because of the unstable price of fuel right now, I don’t feel this is the right time to be doing that.
I remember exiting the local Safeway supermarket, and there was a lady in a gray RX driving by. It stopped me in my tracks. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful design. She seemed to notice me staring, and slowed down....I'm not an SUV person, but, this vehicle would be at the top of my list, were I to ever consider purchasing one. Great job Lexus!

Love the RX! A deer ran into my parent's 2016 RX on the passenger side, the one my mother was sitting in. Luckily they both survived and they suffered no injuries despite driving around 35 mph when it struck the side of the car. The SUV held up very well and they were even able to fix it! Lexus has earned my trust safety-wise
@@mybro727 Where the heck did you get that assertion? I just highlighted the fact that the car is built well and it's very strong and safe, which is why I respect Lexus cars. Other car brands might not have faired as well since they are built cheaper. Obviously other cars do survive deer encounters, like Subarus or Volvos, only a numbskull would think otherwise
Many Lexus RX buyers purchase it for its extremely high reliability, low cost of ownership and the quiet ride. I recall the current outgoing RX outsells all other luxury SUVs combined. Substance over form?
My thoughts on the new Lexus RX 2023. Let me start by saying: I love the Lexus RX. Ever since I drove it for the first time a few years ago in Florida, I have been in awe of this car that is so different than the Audis, BMWs and Mercedes that I had driven before (me being from Germany). Frankly I had never heard of the Lexus RX before I sat in one. Anyway, it was love at first drive. This car was quiet and comfy, luxurious with a silky smooth V6 engine and lovely soft leather seats. And once I put my hands on that wooden steering wheel, man, I never wanted anything else. The Lexus RX was a car that didn't make me want to drive fast, like my BMW or an Audi. Instead it enveloped me in relaxation and confident tranquility. Never before have I found myself reaching my destinations more relaxed than in a Lexus RX. The newest generation of the RX now comes with new power trains, modernized interior, and revised optics. And to be honest: I don't like what I'm seeing. Compared to its predecessor it has become lower and wider. The RX's beautiful classic SUV proportions have been shifted to a more cab-rearward appearance, emphasizing its sporty aspirations. Accordingly the hood has become longer, creating a visual imbalance with the shortened rear overhang. New creases on the flank create a dynamic look and the wider rear with the light bar give it an athletic and aggressive stance. The car also seems to sit lower to the ground although no numbers on ground clearance have been released. The interior has been reduced from opulent and plush to sleek and minimal (no doubt the materials are of fine quality). Lexus did not resist the trend to remove buttons and incorporate many functions into a massive screen. The analog watch did not survive and I have yet to see that glorious wooden steering wheel on any press pictures (I have little hope). Why do I like none of this? The Lexus RX is one of the important cars in automobile history. It defined the new class of luxury cross-over which has since been copied by countless automakers. It was the trend setter and it was confident about what it was (and what it was not). It never aspired to being a sports car. It was a luxurious, smooth, quiet family glider. What I see now is a car that is trying to be an Audi or a BMW. A car that is giving up on the things that made it marvelous and gave it a unique character. Sneered at by too many car reviewers (who just don't get the RX) it is now trying to be like the cool kids. Sporty, dynamic, aggressive, sleek, minimal? None of this I want from a Lexus RX. And even if I wanted that: I could just go and buy an Audi.
My 2021 RX350 has a touch screen. That was one of the selling points. Also the V6 engine that takes regular gas. Most other suvs in this class take premium gas I think the new one is pretty but I’m happy to keep my 2021 model ❤ very happy with my RX350

Funny this vid came out today after I saw the RX with a manufacturer license plate here in Boston. Probably demoing it to their dealers. Stunning! Curious they got rid of the Lexus badging and have gone more plain like Genesis does with their logo on back now.

Lexus isn’t know for its technology but it’s reliability. I’d prefer the Lexus anyway over Audi, BMW or Mercedes. RX is my next Lexus vehicle. Love the new look and design.
I just can’t get down with the new RX, although my husband thinks it looks way better then the 2022 (I personally loved my 2015). I’m waiting for the 2023 redesigned GX (or maybe it’s the 2024 that will be redesigned). I’ve lost track🤯🤪That’s what I want to buy. Hurry up Lexus and ROLL THAT OUT😩 Great video.
I was at the NY auto show and the Lexus worker their told me the new GX is on the way with no more V8. They were going to a better V6 turbo model instead. Ever since that day I have seen ZERO evidence of any of this. Seriously we need a Lexus insider to start spilling the beans. This is a big ball of confusion
I think it's a really good looking vehicle, but the way the front wheel molding goes into the vent on the front bumper looks really weird from most angles. That's a nitpick on an otherwise beautiful car though.
While it's nice to see Lexus offering a little more performance here, I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity to not go further with an F model. X3M, GLC63, Stelvio QV etc. are fairly popular and I think a Lexus version (even 0-60 in ~4.5 seconds) would sell well for them. Hopefully we'll see something like that for the mid-cycle refresh like we saw with the IS 500!
It would be nice if it was possible without seriously compromising its Lexus characteristics. They'd have to seriously work on the chassis, and fully overhaul the suspension, have different brakes, maybe transmission, seats with more side support, etc, and it would lose a lot of what makes it a RX in the first place : reliability and superb comfort. You don't go from a 0-60 in high 6 sec to low 4 sec without serious changes... Just for the suspension control arms alone that would need to be different than the standard to handle the extra forces, it would cost an absolute fortune to engineer, as this is an over 4000lbs SUV.... Not to mention, for it to still be comfortable, it would need some adaptive and/or air suspension and suddenly you're adding not only a lot of cost, but also a lot of possibilities to fail. You don't buy a Lexus to have the potential issues of a more performant BMW/MB/Alfa, Lexus is the comfortable/reliable alternative to the European luxury cars and stands for that... I think they are right to keep it as simple and basic as possible. And it's the highest selling luxury vehicle in the market, period, so ...
@@pnourani well whoopee! So whats the point? Obviously, real buyers don't care about a few seconds of nothing and that bmw long term ownership costs is a waste of time and money and not worth it. Ok so getting to the next stop light a hair quicker is important to you but this is not even an electric car!
Interesting seeing the F-Sport badge on a RX. Also, not happy there's no longer a V6. Turbo may be good but not long-lived. We'll see how Toyota handles it.
I agree I’m very disappointed they discontinued the V-6 engine, that was the wrong way to go, some of us still prefer the sound of a pure V-6, and not these nonsense turbo charged 4 cylinder engines.

My 07 Lexus will tell me that if I’ve left a window OR the moon roof open, and it tells you which one
I have an ‘04 RX330 with 37,000 miles on it. Love the car. It had 22,500 when I bought it a year and a half ago. Put in a new head unit. AWD, great vehicle.
Did anybody else get excited when he said or you can step up to this! thinking it was going to be a V8 because of the 500 badge just to be let down by a 4 banger
@@RC-117 right, I was at least expecting a V6 in the higher trim. What a let down. Same thing when Honda discontinued V6 Vtech, and slapped a turbo on the 4 bangers. I’d much rather have a N/A engine over a dirty excessive carbon producing high heat turbo that will fail at some point and cost a fortune.
9:10 if you are picking kids up that don't need child seats, your kids will raise the seats in a second. and if you are picking up kids that need a seat, this feature is pointless by definition. For a company proud of shedding 90kg they could get rid of two extra by removing this 'feature'

I find it so funny how people that review these type of cars (preproduction) are invited privately. They show up with camera crews to film great angles and as many gadgets as they can to sound and look professional. Doug shows up with his iPhone probably a stand for it, he probably looks like a small review place that you let in for pitty. Tuns out he probably gets the most views in his reviews than all the other people combined.

Hey Doug. Italdesign commented on your "Cars I Most Want To Review" about the Columbus concept car, and they confirmed that you can review it.

Doug were so happy that your reviewing the sequoia. We’re the first in the country to order it in the USA and we will soon email you about reviewing our future sequoia!
The massive grille is so ugly and not aerodynamic.
I like the grill.
Actually it’s not that bad. But Lexus trying to compete with BMW.
@@kr9181 Lexus RX is the best-selling luxury SUV of all-time. So how exactly is Lexus trying to compete with BMW?
@@rebeltvr6046 grilles only:)
That's one bad nose job!
Oh that grill is hideous, and yet so many people despised the hour glass spindle grill. 🙄

I don’t think I’ve ever seen ventilated seats in the backseat of a car like this before either
My friend's Hyundai Palisade has it. Not super common but by no means limited to ultra luxury cars like Doug implies in the video either.

Daddy Doug, I want to compliment you on cars and bids. It is such a good website to find some really neat and quirky vehicles. Well done!
Doug chill out and wait 5 seconds the 360 camera on Lexus does the spin then gives you the top down view that you want and you can usually zoom or select areas to get a better view
Another great review as always Doug
I love Lexus interiors and while I like it, I find the rear emblem change for lettering a bit repetitive on every brand now
Doug needs to see an optometrist if he thinks the new design is more cohesive and better looking than the old one.
This is now a truly refined, robust and beautiful Lexus. Lexus now is shoulder to shoulder ir even further than other luxury brands.

The all electric Lexus RZ also coming this year is getting the same frosted glass from the Venza.
Doug, I absolutely love your videos 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Too bad the green commies have smashed all that's good and exciting.
Many Lexus RX buyers purchase it for its extremely high reliability, low cost of ownership and the quiet ride. I recall the current outgoing RX outsells all other luxury SUVs combined. Substance over form?
Am I the only one more impressed by the Toyota Capstone SUV in the beginning then the RX?
💯💯
why would you buy Lexus and not Mercedes if youre in Germany? Lexus doesnt make sense in Europe, its meant for American market

Funny this vid came out today after I saw the RX with a manufacturer license plate here in Boston. Probably demoing it to their dealers. Stunning! Curious they got rid of the Lexus badging and have gone more plain like Genesis does with their logo on back now.

The grill still looks goofy and it awkwardly joins the hood. But overall they did a good job. Excellent review by a more subdued Doug.
More subdued my foot. He was still way over animated, which gives an unrealistic hence untrustworthy impression
I assert that Doug is the clearest annunciator on TH-cam, and possibly in the world. 😃
Ahhh, it's beautiful inside and out! I want one!
I think it's a really good looking vehicle, but the way the front wheel molding goes into the vent on the front bumper looks really weird from most angles. That's a nitpick on an otherwise beautiful car though.
I hated that grill at first but my opinion changed very quickly. The grill is fantastic. I believe most people will love it
While it's nice to see Lexus offering a little more performance here, I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity to not go further with an F model. X3M, GLC63, Stelvio QV etc. are fairly popular and I think a Lexus version (even 0-60 in ~4.5 seconds) would sell well for them. Hopefully we'll see something like that for the mid-cycle refresh like we saw with the IS 500!
100k for a full F? I would love it
The whole thing is a missed opportunity. 😂
And for the mid cycle refresh we won’t. They’ve already signaled that they have surrendered to genesis
They missed an opportunity to put their 6 cyl in the hybrid. My X5 45e plug in comes with a straight 6, 0-60 in 4.7.
@@pnourani well whoopee! So whats the point? Obviously, real buyers don't care about a few seconds of nothing and that bmw long term ownership costs is a waste of time and money and not worth it. Interesting seeing the F-Sport badge on a RX. Also, not happy there's no longer a V6. Turbo may be good but not long-lived. We'll see how Toyota handles it.
They’ve had an F Sport RX for 10 years
I agree I’m very disappointed they discontinued the V-6 engine, that was the wrong way to go, some of us still prefer the sound of a pure V-6, and not these nonsense turbo charged 4 cylinder engines.

@@RC-117 right, I was at least expecting a V6 in the higher trim. What a let down. Same thing when Honda discontinued V6 Vtech, and slapped a turbo on the 4 bangers.
