  • Hi everyone
    this is Hansoo from favourgreen.
    Today plants that want to talk about is Sansevieria trifasciata Moonshine plant. I've been grow couple of moonshine plant at my place, propagate with water propagation and dividing propagation, and want to share what I found about sansevieria moonshine plant.
    For someone who's not familiar with Moonshine snake plant,
    Sanseviera which is commonly called a snake plant , mother in law tongue plant is Great Purifying air, Easy care, and great for indoor feature plants.
    Moonshine snake plant has attractive silvery-white green leaves that grow compact.
    Not only for decorating anywhere at home, it is also perfect plant to add on bedroom as it is great for purifying air and also produce oxygen during the night.
    For moonshine care tips, because it can adjust well from bright to low light conditions I placed two in my bedroom (bright light) and another one for living room (medium light). I mostly water snake plant once in 3~4weeks, give fertilizer once or twice in a year, and they have been doing very well :)
    To propate moonshine plant,
    generally two ways. Dividing propagation and leaf cutting propagation.
    if you want to know how I did propagation,
    Dividing propagation

    So interesting and thank you for sharing. Very relaxing video and I am amazed at how much your moonshine grew in one year. The baby you sent me has grown double in size it's very exciting. Do you find propagating snake plant in water is easier and faster than soil?
    Also working at a nursery must have been a great experience! I would love to work at a nursery one day. Working with plants all day 🪴🤍

      Thank you for the news grace
      Glad to hear the moonshine is growing well at your place😊😊
      I can't tell the comparison of leaf cutting propagation in soil and water yet (because havn't tested propagating in the soil) but I do think propagating snake plant in water would be easier. The reasons is, when the cutting is in soil, it can be easly affectecd by bacterias and also bit hard to check what is going on to the cutting.
      and yes, thanks to worked in a nursery before, I could have build some knowledge about the plants. Its actually pretty fun but, need to apply sunscreen all time 😂😂

      @@favourgreenau haha I laughed at the sunscreen part. It would be a physical job I imagine.
      I will try propagating the snake plant in water. I really enjoyed watching your video. I love your videos and what you share.
      Thank you again!

    Came here because I got a single cutting of moonshine and it has started to give pups but it had slight varigations and I was worried and confused because not a lot is said about moonshines giving other varigations of sanseiveira and your video helped a lot thank you so much 👍 Im sad that my moonshine cutting won’t give another moonshine but oh well…

      Thank you for your kind word Seraphina. I also did leaf cutting with big expectation, and yes... after found out the information, become little bit sad... 😞
      These video has been made base on my first 7 moonshine cuttings but, I still have a lot of cuttings which didnt pups yet, so let's see... once they pup, Ill bring catch up video of 'Does moonshine cutting make moonshine or not' 😊

    @favourgreen, I want to learn how to grow snake plants like you do! I have purchased almost 20 pots of snake plants but some of their leaves wrinkles and shrivels because the two words "root rot" drives me water them once every 4, 6, or 8 weeks. May I ask what temperature you set your home at in summer and winter? Thank you very much!!

    • @favourgreenau
      @favourgreenau  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the snake plant is wrinkles due to root rotting, it could be because of the potting mix. I mostly use well draining potting mix (mixture of orchid bark, perlitd, charcoal and bit of coco peat) and water my plant when it looks like thirsty.
      I haven't really measured my room temperature but during the summer, it is about 22~28c and winter just set temperature as we don't feel cold at home :)

    Hello, I have a few questions:
    🌱1. What type of soil is best for moonshine?
    🌱2. How much to water it?
    🌱3. How much sunlight? Or does it prefer shade?
    Thank you for this awesome and relaxing content.

      Hello Lena
      Thank you for enjoying the video ☺
      The answer for the questions are;
      1. I think well draining potting mix would be the best since it doesn't like to stay in wet soil but based on my experience, it was even performing well in the normal potting mix (From store potting mix)
      2. I generally doesn't worry much the amount of water (when the plant is in the pot that has drainage hole) but water once in 3 weeks.
      3. I found this plant can grow well in both conditions. I have one for in Western side window and the other is on low light conditions, but they do perform well in both so far.
      But I would say it would perform better in bright area unless it has some distance from window to prevent leaf burn from reflected heat
      Hope that answered your question ☘☘

    Hi ! I just got this plant! But I want to make it big! Can I ask you a couple of questions ?
    1. Does it need to be in a brighter light to make the leads more grayish?
    2. Once you cut off the babies from the propagation the ones that turned to robusta did the cuttings eventually gave you baby moonshine ?

    • @favourgreenau
      @favourgreenau  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Dulce
      Glad you got the plant :)
      Currently I'm placing my moonshine in medium light, and it does doing well.
      based on the data that I collect while I've been grow this plant several spots, so far not really sure does brighter light eventually make the moonshine more pale.
      However, in my theory if its sit on brighter position, it may tends to be more pale since it will get already enough light, so it doesnt require chlorophyll as much as when it grows in low light conditions.
      For the baby propagated plants from water were just became robusta. However, if you wait until your moonshine make baby plant and do dividing propagation, you will be able to get baby moonshine.
      Hope that answered your question :)

    When I got my moonshine, I had it about a year before I seen any new growth. It was the same 2 long stems I looked at every single day. What was strange about this plant is that a pup came out and then another leaf on the pup, before 1 leaf began growing on the mother plant. So weird.

      yes they seems grow so slow but, literally all of sudden show their new shoot 😂

    I got a moonshine about 3 months ago , I have it on my stand in a south facing window, only water once a month, odd occasion a ti y bit of fertilizer. However still no growth.... Any idea what I'm doing wrng..? Should I be checking the roots ??

    • @favourgreenau
      @favourgreenau  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Erin. Its a bit hard to tell as I couldnt check your plant but if you have been watered only once a month watering, I assume... it wouldnt cause root rotting. what I could think is, maybe try to water slightly often ( maybe once in 3weeks?_ but for my plant I do water them about once in 2 weeks during the warmer season)
      On the other hand, this plant grows quite slower than other plants, so may be it was growing slowly :)

      @@favourgreenau hmm, ok. I think I'll try watering a bit sooner than later during the summer. I was wondering if that was something I could or should be doin since it is summer ATM. Hopefully that should help. Iv been scared to repot and iv heard they like to be root bound but wasn't sure what else to do . My other big snake plant is doin great and growing lots. So I'll try that. Thanknyou for the response
