I have just always tried to be careful not to overwater them. My “old lady” has gotten too tall for the kitchen counter now so she’s moved to the living room. I need to make sure she’ll get enough light and won’t be in the draft from the heater vent in the winter.

I literally wrestled a huge Sansevieria (Dracaena) Zeylanica from my dantist's office. They had 3 huge tightly stuffed plants and all were drastically overwatered. They gave me one. When I took it out of the pot - what I saw in that liquid dirt (I cannot even call it soil) - I don't even want to describe. Anyway - I cleaned the roots, cut the damaged ones, dried them a bit and repotted in 3 different pots with a proper soil mixture. It is such a delight to see now 3 nice plants on my staircase... To me - it is like saving kittens...💚🐈‍⬛💚

Damn, Summer Rayne Oakes is the only one who is more like a scientist rather than just TH-camr. Sooo underrated so intellectual, I mean Cornell!. Netflix needs to pick this woman to have a show to spread her humble mission along with Sander of course. Summer, Do you have any plan partaking the UN on Decade of Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 adapted to your content??? Thank you! LOVE from Equator.

When she was talking about over watering I sighed and looked at my snake plant. I've had her for two years and she's about 1/4 of her original size, mostly due to rot. I've gotten it down now though, she seems a lot happier and is simultaneously pushing out three new stocks! Can't wait for her to be full again. I named her Jane Fonda after the movie Monster in Law 🤭

I too was an over and sometimes under waterer. I bought a moisture probe from Kmart-yeah, I’ve had it awhile-and it has saved a lot of plants lives. Look into one. They’re around under $20 and return the price in saved plants.

I love Snake Plants! I think by my last count I have about 35 different types. I just loved this video. Most of the vids. on-line tell me nothing new or I spot misinformation. You, my friend are spot on and have researched the subject so thoroughly as to teach me new things. This is why you are my favorite TH-cam Plant Person. Keep up the good work and Happy Thanksgiving.

I had a snake plant planted in a plastic container with very little drain holes and with a regular potting mix with extra pieces of bark. It survived for about 3 months but I just had to amend the soil. I added sand to the soil and drilled more holes on the pot. But, even thought it wasn’t in the best conditions, it’s still grew a little bit because it was outside.

Great video on these amazing plants! I actually call mine Dracaenas without any qualms. I keep them around with my Dracaena marginatas and fragrans and they all look pretty cool grouped together, especially knowing they’re all the same genus now. In fact, when I look look across the board between the leaf shapes and variegation of the snake plants and dragon trees, my eye actually gets it.
My attention is always competing between the plants and your amazing outfits and accessories, btw. Lol
