      @@davidtryon1205 It's running and driving great! I have little things to fix here and there, mainly from the previous owner letting it sit for a long time, but for now I'm driving it as much as I can.

    You should have routed the spark plug wires over the intake. The egr pipe gets very hot and your wires are right next to it under the intake.

      The engine isn't under the hood. It's under the decklid.

    Can you show how to change the air filter on the Fiero GT. If someone knows how please respond to this message

    • @tailsfromthejunkyard1023
      @tailsfromthejunkyard1023  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There should be an air filter box that looks like a can at the end of the intake tube. There will be a nut at the top of the can, unscrew that and the lid should pop off fairly easily revealing the round filter inside.
      Please let me know if this helps

    • @stansmith4054
      @stansmith4054 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      2.5 or 2.8? 2.5 filter is old type with big filter ring on top of engine. 2.8 is located on driver's side behind firewall in black metal tank. All you need is a 10 mm wrench I believe. Most of them have rust on the bottom of canister now days so check. You may have to pull it, clean it well and repaint. Use high heat grill spray paint.

    Pull the dog bone. It will give you some motor flex and a bit better access to that side of the engine.

    I've been thinking after replacing my EGR tube that maybe I should have replaced those two studs with bolts. The studs make it difficult to remove the EGR tube. What are your thoughts?

    • @tailsfromthejunkyard1023
      @tailsfromthejunkyard1023  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know what I hadn’t thought of that. That would make it more practical although thankfully the EGR tube is flexible so that helps.

    I owned a 1986 V6 SE Firero 2M6 with a 3 speed automatic with a factory sun roof from 1991-1996. It was a fun car to own and drive.
    The biggest cheap/free mods that I was able to do to the car was to advance the timing a few degrees, install a K&N filter in the factory airbox and modify the air intake opening on the side of the car (it's actually a small piece of rubber with an even smaller opening that connects the outside air vent to the airbox if I remember correctly. You want get a big gain in performance from those mods, but you will get a nice, small noticeable gain.
    I also installed a set of Hyper Tech underdrive pulleys (crank, alternator and water pump) but to be honest they didn't make any difference that I could notice (I wouldn't recommend the underdrive pulleys as they tended to make the lights dim at idle and seemed to make the power windows operate slow at idle also). I also installed an aftermarket exhaust which didn't make any performance gains either.
    I raced my car at a local 1/8th mile dragstrip a few times and it ran an average of 10.20@73 MPH. It just wasn't a fast car, even by the standards of the 1980's or the 1990's, but it was fun to drive.
    If you plan on keeping the car and driving it much I would suggest in investing in an oil filter relocation kit as getting to the oil filter was a real PITA from what I can remember.
