Even though his videos mostly circle budget builds, rescues, and the regular how-to's for the common folks who like taking things into their own hands when it comes to cars his channel is valuable as it advocates someone with a great character, a humble nature, a bit of light-hearted humor and a lot of love for his fans.
They lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota and their small business stretched across Minnesota and Wisconsin. You would be surprised to know that he isn't a certified mechanic. He learned it all from his parents back when he grew up in Minot, North Dakota. He has been fixing cars for two decades now and that shows the importance of self-education and experienced-based learning. Despite having fiddled with many cars in his lifetime he always drifts to the 1956 Buick Special 2-door hardtop as his favorite car. Derek used to live pretty far from his operation and he had to travel long distances to get to the car one such day when he found a 1979 AMC Rebel in a junkyard and that car had to be driven from the backseat and well as you guessed it the car wasn't doing well and the engine leaked which meant he had to stop midway. He was 250 miles away from his garage and so he had to get a ram truck to get the car back to his garage. There are a lot of incidents like this in his channel where he is very determined and he makes it happen. Derek is an amazing person and a great father. And he is a patriot, which led to him taking a 1972 Chevelle from a junkyard called it independence, because of the colors and then taking it back to his garage and refurbishing it. The car turned out so good that it made it into many events held in Indianapolis and Florida. They recently moved to Tennessee and cited many reasons why they made this shift.
It was the living cost as living in Tennessee is much more sustainable than living in Minnesota and the weather. Derek requires to move to places and film outside most of the time and there are at least two retakes to make one cut of the video. Imagine, it's cold outside and you're filming, and well Derek needs to hold these metal tools which can get pretty hard times, and the rain, of course, most of Derek's plans go in vain because of the rain. So he had to make the shift. The location wasn't good either. Derek had to block a whole week for a one-day event and he'd have to pay for food and lodging just to reach the venue. Derek takes relationships very seriously regardless of whether it is a father, a husband, or his fans.
He does not like disappointing anyone and so he wants to create high-quality content for all of his viewers with the new location he can join his family for a movie night and his travel time has now become family time.
As his kids are growing up the academics and everything just get too expensive and saving money on fuel, food, and lodging can save up a lot of money. But, I guess the climate is the main factor for them to make the shift. As a closing statement, Derek said, “Our goal is: always put a smile on you folks’ faces, entertain you, where you can sit down with your family or your kids and just enjoy some stuff and hopefully get you motivated and get you out to the shop and garage. So we just decided, you know, we needed to find better weather where we could do what we do best and have fun doing it.”
He is one of the best guys in the niche. I am sure that even if he only makes family vlogs his calm conduct will most certainly make all of his videos pleasant and engaging.
