Bought a 2005 tahoe from a pretty shady guy almost 2 years ago. Went to drive it home and it cut off and wouldn't stay running. Flash forward a year and i chased down everything related to random misfire that you can think of. Even put high flow cats on it. Found this video and it made perfect sense. The manifold gasket is the only thing i didn't think of. Changed it today. Haven't run it but im confident the gasket was the problem the whole time
I have this on my Chrysler 5th Ave. I definitely hear a hissing sound, poor acceleration and rough idling! Hard and no start sometimes. I don't have any way of reading codes, but my local mechanic identified the real issue. New rebuilt carbeurator too. Thank you for reaffirming what I witnessed over the last year.
Literally just liked and subscribed because you know your stuff. I was getting P0300 and P0405 but the egr is deleted when it was rebuilt. Coils are good spark plug wires are good and new spark plugs installed. Today when I was inspecting with it on I gave it a rev and I could hear air being sucked in somewhere from the front of my intake manifold. The reason why I think you are right is because I’ll have really rough idle when completely stopped and she will miss fire and you can feel it
I've had a vacuum leak for a little while and tried propane on the vac lines with no results, pushed everything right together and nothing. Then one of the guys at work said it's probably the intake gasket. Well, it seems to be the issue, your symptoms match exactly. Keep up these videos. Not enough people know how to fix their vehicles anymore. This is just an issue I haven't had before
Thank you top 5 auto repair for posting! Here is my experience...on my daughters 1999 Honda CVR she was experiencing a high pitched whistle sound once the SUV got warmed up, most definitely was a vacuum leak somewhere. Process of elimination I was able test all other hoses for vacuum leaks and nope...so the last possible leak had to be the intake manifold gasket failing. It was a pain to get the intake manifold off and even harder to scrape the 25 year old baked on gasket off (surface has to be completely flat for new gasket to seat properly). FYI, drain the radiator fluid first, and use a clean container if you are planning to reuse the fluid, otherwise alot will spill all over when you pull off the intake manifold, and most likly you will get some fluid into the engine itself and you'll then you'll burn white smoke out the tailpipe. The only way to get the radiator fluid out of the engine then is to do a oil change! Also, if you don't seat the new gasket and the manifold on just right when you reinstall it, you'll still have a vacuum leak and a very fast idol, fix that by losening the manifold again and reseating it. Once that's fixed, refill the radiator with fluid and check for any fluid leaks around the manifold and tighten bolts more if needed, if all is done right the whistling should be completely gone
Finally a video on this ! Been looking for videos and no one posted, I have a 2001 Camry 4cyl I replaced it but I think I might have not torqued it right, it has a rough idle when cold start, I’m probably gonna replace it again and hope it works
I heard a suction sound coming from the bottom or my suv where thats located it might be tat issue but I get no codes and my car smells like pure gasoline and fumes at random times. Car also has hiccups rpm drops and comes back to its steady rpm makes tye car tug or jitter.
I have watched hundreds of auto repair youtubers and feel you are the one of the best👍👍👍. I am fixing a 01 MDX with engine hassle noise when acceleration. There is no DTC code but I suspect the minor vacuum leaks (running lean) somewhere. I used propane gas to check all hoses and vacuum booster and found no leak. So is it possible the manifold gaskets are leaking? May I use propane gas to prove that? Thank you.
He's definitely on point. I recently bought a 2006 Volvo XC90 4.4L V8 and supposedly they changed the MAF sensor. So I'm guessing it's new. I'm getting a lot of carbon build up and poor power and gas mileage. I'm going to change the MAF sensor and use Sunoco gas. Hopefully this will help a little bit. Next, would be to change the intake gasket to cure the air ratio.
Yup, I hear the clear hissing sounds right at the mating point of intake manifold and engine block. I had to replace remove the intake manifold to fix the rear valve cover gasket on Toyota 3MZFE engine, and oil leak is now fixed, but I have a strong hunch that intake manifold (with new gasket) is not sealing air tight.
@@Top5AutoRepairs bolts are torqued, just the PCV hose slipped out on the intake manifold side when I was connecting it to PCV and since it’s not visible even day time, I had to use my fingers to reach in to confirm that hose slipped out.
I have every one of these codes. 2008 Volkswagen EOS VR6 but there's not a hissing noise, instead it waits until the engine is at temperature and it starts squealing horribly until I give it gas. When I accelerate the sound stops. However I have vacuum leaks as well and when I'm parked with the engine running it surges up and down. Thank you for this video.
is it possible for water to get into the engine causing milky oil as well? no white smoke from exhaust but performance its bad and milky oil dont think its head gasket perhaps a combo of bubbles in cooling system and leaky intake manifold?
Nice video I was hoping white smoke was a sign. I have a qx60 with the 3.5 v6. It started blowing a ploom of white smoke at start ups but goes away quickly. So quick I had to have someone stand behind the car because I just thought it was a cloud going by. I’ve had the manifold off when I changed the plugs 40k miles ago in spring of 2020. Now it has 140k miles. There’s no moisture sign on the dipstick or oil cap. I remember having to disconnect 2 small coolant lines doing the plugs. Hopefully it’s not the head gasket especially since I do all the maintenance when needed.
I removed my Exhaust manifold and now that I put back everything, the car is hard to start, is running lean and showing a bad Mass air flow sensor which I replaced already. I think I might have not aligned this piece correctly and now it’s causing me issues. Thank you very much I’m going to see if this fixes my issue and will report back soon. Thank you 🙏
I have a question. I have a 1997 F150 there’s a popping noise coming from the intake and I’m trying to figure out what causes that. Do you have any suggestions and it’s very weak and rough thank you.
My car has no problem at higher speed but also at idle, its maybe little rough but no code, no stalling, nothing. But on MOT, there is high O2 % and lambda at idle az 1,8. Exhaust checked and no holes. So it could be intake gasket ?
After a lot of troubleshooting and research, I think I have a similar problem but coolant is also being sucked into the combustion chamber. From your experience, is it likely coolant is being sucked into the combustion chamber? Steam is coming out of my exhaust pipe. I don't think it's a blown head gasket. My spark plug wells do seem to have coolant in them. Also, when I first turn on the 2008 Ford Econoline E250 V8 4.6 2 valve, after the van sits foe awhile, steam comes out of the exhaust pipe a lot more but then reduces. I have no DTCs. I had to replace the water pump. Now there is preasure in the coolant system but I am still loosing coolant somewhere. My engine only shakes after the engine warms up. My coolant guage is not working but my scan tool shows the temperature. That van seemingly only has a cylinder head temperature sensor, not a typical coolant temperature sensor. The vehicle barely moves when pressing the gas. I appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Thank you.
Is it a hissing noise or does it sound like an air compressor when you pull the trigger on an air nozzle? And mine only makes this sound when my rpms are high. As soon as it shifts and lowered rpm the sound stops.
Just have a question my 93 Miata seems to be leaking coolant around a manifold bold. would a blown manifold gasket cause that and word helps thank you😊
