I think the reason maf and coven roles leave more often is; that when a teammate leaves it feels like you lost already. Therefore making it more likely you'll leave as well.

Yup. Half times, they out you anyways... Another half times, you would sit there and have a boring game when your own mafia is essentially outing themselves by not working together and staying silent when someone call them out. It's not worth it. I only report first mafia leaver and I don't blame any more mafia leaver after that.
The other factor here is that as evil you KNOW how much of your team you have. If a townie leaves you don't know how many there are. If town knew for example there was only three of them against 4 mafia, 4 coven and a bunch of neutrals, they'd probably leave day 1 like many solo mafia or coven do.
There's actually a more fundamental reason that is psychological, which is that there's a lot of pressure to be on the side that is being judged, hunted, and condemned. Like when you're the "bad guy", and other players are ganging up on you, it just feels bad. And god forbid when there's a jailor going after you. Other evil roles have funner gameplay to help compensate for this, but being Mafia is like playing a high-pressure role with little payoff and little means of defence.
I think Vamp being high is just a consequence of the criteria. I usually see Vamps leave Night 2 or 3 if they fail getting any conversions off. It would be really interesting to see say a Night 3 or later leaving rate, but that would probably just show a round about way of what factions win the most (with the losers leaving). Speaking of, if you are evil, leave during night. Do not leave during the day and do NOT leave if you are getting lynched. That usually ends up getting reported the most because you are screwing over your faction in the worst way possible. Especially if you are the killing role.
Vamps don't leave D1. They die N1, then their conversion target leaves D2 because they're mad they just lost their fun role to become a new solo evil, which is unfortunately not counted for this data.

I was surprised that Executioners left more frequently than Ambushers. Executioners are really fun because you get the opportunity to come up with creative plays and feel like a master of deception when they work. I guess most if not all of the Executioner leavers would have just used the old Sheriff claim and then find their target sus, as apposed to picking a random person and hoping only 1 person visits and that there's no medium.
@@michasokoowski6651 The better explanation is that ambusher is a unique role and directly tied to a "only exists if mafioso/gf exists" system. Also the coolness factor of being an independent killer akin to a crusader.
What I find interesting is the fact that, despite the fact that the data is only from CAA, all coven roles show up less frequently than any other role, and that roles that show up in other rolelists like godfather/mafioso, jailor, and serial killer show up more frequently.
Crusader is also my 4th favourite role (under jailor, transporter, pirate and just above either tracker or potion master) so idk I'm not surprised. It's easy to confirm yourself and you get a bunch of kills as town, it's pretty fun. Vamps are also underrated imo

Then it falls into the easier roles where you can sit back and deduce instead of deceiving or leading. Even Mayor being such a low win rate is because you can basically sit for a few nights with really no pressure if town is doing well.
I wonder after seeing how skewed the graph is in ToS1 with evils more or less leaving higher then townie's if ToS2 might have a similar distribution or if the role changes/reworks the new roles in general and removal of mafia might shuffle the pack a bit more 🤔
Im honestly surprised Jester is not in the list Like, who is the psychopath that leaves as jester? Jester is one of the best roles to play, and the mere fact of you being in the game makes EVERYONE be more careful on their votes, many people will start innoing to not die to jester, its just a fun role overall And if you get lynched at d2 and start to get bored, search some jokes in google and start telling it to the Medium, dont ask me why, just do it
GA is my favorite role, always enjoy it especially when my target knows to whisper me to do something they need. But I'm surprised Vamp is the sixth, I see solo vamp leaves D1 quite often, but maybe some of them were forged?
Now I know this doesn't have anything to do with the video, however, I wanted to share this Godfather story. So, it was the end of the game. My 2nd teammate (an ambusher) died, as well as a doc, so it was just a 1v1 between me and a necro. He already used doc on himself the night before, so I knew he couldn't heal himself. However, he did have 2 ways to kill me since I was Godfather: he could use the dead corpse of a Werewolf, or a Jugg. Knowing those were the only 2 ways, I came up with a genius idea. At the beginning of the day, I said something like "it's a tie, necro. I'm mafioso, Gg." The Necro acknowledged this and said gg afterwards. After that, night fell and I simply prayed that I would live. And I did. Necro either used the dead vigi corpse or his ghoul to try and kill me, but I killed him instead lol. After that, I said "SIMPLY OUTPLAYED NECRO," and our team of 3 maf won.
i’m still surprised to see the nks so low except arsonist but executioner being that far down now that one’s a shocker but then again I see a lot of executors leaving daily so can’t really be that surprised
i've noticed something kinda funny, the entirety of mafia is right at the bottom, only broken by a executioner before ambusher tops the list, this makes sense as mafia especially in coven mafia returns, are supposed to be a stand-in for a fake neutral that squares off against the coven to avoid being overwhelmed by both them and/or town, but they are not meant for that at all, and barely live long enough to enjoy their roles, as they're deception instead of fun gameplay, the difference between medusa and ambusher should explain everything, but its also no surprise when coven in its entirety beat the entire mafia in the communities liking of them, the main issue with town of salem is its social deduction and if mafia replaced half of its roles with something a bit more realistically useful(looking at framer, hypnotist and disguiser) maybe a few roles get mixed together like hypnotist giving framer results after a visit and not being forced to provide a hypnotist interaction in order to fake claim better while also doing framers job better by having more options, but what is the most annoying is being either janitor or forger, using your ability trying to fake claim and being found out because someone just took a guess vigi shot at the doctor you were pretending to be bg with and you are then asked "hey weren't you bg on them?" and then a mafia leaves and its only d3 and its basically all over unless an arsonist just blasts away everyone but the 2 remaining maf, mafia just kinda sucks, coven is much better and neutrals range from unfun to really fun, sk is the original "ok" neutral role, used to win occasionally but it kinda got stale since it does mafias job and can usually just kill half of town then get voted out in time for maf maj and then maf wins, takes away mafias feeling of winning as well as sk actual win, jester is fun to play just to cause problems for town, and executioner i'm kinda shocked, i actually really like having defense and just waiting for my target to die before i play my jester card, because literally nobody listens to an exe or 'possible' exe so that role is basically like jester but with a 1-5 day defense but no win condition unless lucky period, i think this is why i started to not enjoy the game as much, too many roles that do kinda nothing in my eyes, its easier to win as jester than it is to win as exe and if you die as jester you just get to leave then, but this just kinda makes sense why i'm hopeful for tos2 as its removed all of maf and revamped most roles in a fun way
Of course Pirate is the most liked/least likely to leave d1 role It's all the benefits of Survivor/Exe (can side with anyone while still alive), Esc/Cons (Can interfere with other players' plans), and Vigi (Kills people and can easily self-confirm) wrapped up into one role. Your only weakness is having no defense, but 90% of players follow an unwritten "Leave the Pirate alone" rule (even at points where they probably shouldn't), so it's hardly worth worrying about.

With the power some of the roles have in ToS, it would be interesting if Maf did come back way later down the line to make the true All Any experience. We already have a witch, why isnt Hypno a witch like role that could actually get the information if the person he hypnos is a TI? And just have a role like a Hitman who is basically Maf version of Dep or Conj. Want to have a town role that coven does not have? Make a role of Enforcer who acts like a Crus. They REALLY went heavy killing in ToS2, so you can re-work and drop some of the Maf roles that were simply deceiving roles.
I’ve noticed an uptake in people killing the pirate whether it’s a jailor exe, maf targeting, or lynching. Remember, if you intentionally kill a pirate you are a Weenie. (sk, vet, and rampage are exempt)
Wow, Ret was actually pretty low, but that is probably because you wont know until DAy 2 or later if you can do anything. You wont even know if its a 3 town game and the graveyard just stacks up with evils you can not use. The most shocking data point on the list honestly. But the whole list is kinda top heavy for town. It seems like the general playerbase would rather deduce than deceive.
Im surprise that Pirate is number 1 Because the role Relies a Lot on Rng to win But makes sence since it is a Powerfull King maker in end games after all
Man how is exe so low, I love being night immune and being able to say bullshit to get people lynched. Admittedly it does suck when your target is hyper confirmable, but that's usually not night 1.
I honestly expected Jailor to be in top 5 but it got 27? People stay more on average AS MEDIUM the only other town role that leaves more frequently is psychic
i think what surprises me is how high up Medusa is compared to literally all the other coven roles. Out of all the coven roles i would argue dusa is probably the worst when you're solo
Dusa-gree hard there. Dusa has a powerful attack and the same invest results as survivor. Plus, you can keep people from knowing the roles of those you kill. So it's like having a free janitor always accompanying you which can help you steal a unique role. You are somewhat squishy, what with having no defense, but you still work really well as a glass cannon. Solo Dusa is actually decently strong.
Medusa is like Veteran in that people feel good when they bait people into visiting them. So people stick around for the first night and vet bait, hoping to get some visitors. The rating difference really is that Vet is Town and Dusa is evil, and people love Town way more than they love evil.
I mean dusa isn't much higher than Necro which people complain about all the time but I guess Necro has that can't do anything night 1 going for them so people stay
I wonder why there is so much variation in the amount of games roles appear in. In a true all any format, shouldn’t every role appear in equal amounts?
This considers all game modes. Notice both Coven and Witch and the bias for Classic roles. Also Jailor being so frequent because of set role lists like Classic and ranked that have a 100% Jailor
Im surprised that almost EVERY mafia role placed dead last. Especially the consort, blackmailer and consig. Those are very powerful and fun roles in my opinion
Honestly, it's pretty telling that Maf got removed from ToS2. They had so many roles that were just bad compared to Coven and All Any could absolutely screw you with something like Mafioso/2Framers. At least all the Coven roles had some sort of contribution (even Poisoner, which is considered the worst of the lot). Maf had too many roles that were just Mafiosos in waiting. Maf just isn't as fun as Coven, despite how powerful the three you mentioned are.
@@LAZERAK47V2 Not to mention that Coven have a lot of killing roles, even without book. Most of them kill or can kill in case of the CL Night one. Medusa has gaze, poisoner can prime someone to die, and I guess PM falls outside of this with getting to kill every so often without book. Mafia get Ambusher or GF/Mafioso, but not both GF and MAf if they are in the game. I am not saying that the combo is bad, its actually stupidly strong... but its rare because if someone spawns in as a GF, there HAS to be a low spawn of a Maf with him to boot (since the roles will not convert D1)

Because of the pressure of the role, I’d imagine a lot of the jailor leavers are newer players who can’t handle the stress of it. It’s a super beginner unfriendly role, I could totally see people getting overwhelmed and leaving.
I hate pirates so much, most off all for their cockiness about no one wanting to kill them, that I can never help but kill them as soon as I can, whether I'm evil or town. I shoot them as vigilante, I execute them as jailor, and I stab them as serial killer. 👿 Also I really do hate playing on the Mafia team the most, so whether the stats are skewed or not, I can understand why their roles are the least popular. It's just so much pressure to play on the side that gets harshly scrutinized, judged, and hunted. And unlike other evils, they have less fun roles, and Mafioso, which every Mafia gets turned into eventually, has so little means to defend or hide themselves.
I know it sounds really scummy, but I typically kill off Guardian Angels if they aren't on my team to prevent them from coordinating with their target. If they're protecting a high-priority kill, it's better to off the GA to force them to guess when to protect.
People leave as trans and jester? No way. Trans is the funnest role to play if you don’t give a fuck and so I hear. I get the data doesn’t lie but I feel there is more to this.
I'm disheartened that the only non-town role on this list is Pirate and not even Jester. Town in general is so boring, why would you want to play the good guys whom most of them can't do anything interesting besides post their passively gained results every morning? At least as evils you have agency to influence the game. If you're a Psychic you post and then you're bored. You're bored and then you post. You're just always bored. Sure you've got your Vigilantes and your Jailors but most town is extremely boring and mundane compared to any of the Coven roles and half of the Mafia roles and any of the neutral roles that aren't named Survivor. They just have nothing to do. And that's made worse by the simple fact that it is boring to play Town as a faction even if individual roles were more involved. It just doesn't strike me as particularly enjoyable to play anything other than the evils. Even if you lost 100% of your games it'd still be more fun to lose as evil than to win as Town.

There are so many neat claims... the craziest thing you can do is claim spy and claim you bugged them and saw that they are doused in gas...

Surprised Jailor is so low for being 1 of the most powerful roles/most powerful town roles, hopefully that isnt happening in TOS2

exe is my favorite role but it places near the bottom, damn. medium’s one of my favorites too but i know that’s an unpopular opinion.
Wow, Ret was actually pretty low, but that is probably because you wont know until DAy 2 or later if you can do anything. You wont even know if its a 3 town game and the graveyard just stacks up with evils you can not use. The most shocking data point on the list honestly.
But the whole list is kinda top heavy for town. It seems like the general playerbase would rather deduce than deceive.
Im surprise that Pirate is number 1 Because the role Relies a Lot on Rng to win But makes sence since it is a Powerfull King maker in end games after all

Man how is exe so low, I love being night immune and being able to say bullshit to get people lynched. Admittedly it does suck when your target is hyper confirmable, but that's usually not night 1.

I honestly expected Jailor to be in top 5 but it got 27? People stay more on average AS MEDIUM the only other town role that leaves more frequently is psychic

i think what surprises me is how high up Medusa is compared to literally all the other coven roles. Out of all the coven roles i would argue dusa is probably the worst when you're solo
Dusa-gree hard there. Dusa has a powerful attack and the same invest results as survivor. Plus, you can keep people from knowing the roles of those you kill. So it's like having a free janitor always accompanying you which can help you steal a unique role. You are somewhat squishy, what with having no defense, but you still work really well as a glass cannon. Solo Dusa is actually decently strong.
Medusa is like Veteran in that people feel good when they bait people into visiting them. So people stick around for the first night and vet bait, hoping to get some visitors.
The rating difference really is that Vet is Town and Dusa is evil, and people love Town way more than they love evil.
I mean dusa isn't much higher than Necro which people complain about all the time but I guess Necro has that can't do anything night 1 going for them so people stay
This is about day 1 leavers, people are generally going to hit stone gaze n1 and see what happens even if they don't like the role

I wonder why there is so much variation in the amount of games roles appear in. In a true all any format, shouldn’t every role appear in equal amounts?
This considers all game modes. Notice both Coven and Witch and the bias for Classic roles. Also Jailor being so frequent because of set role lists like Classic and ranked that have a 100% Jailor

Im surprised that almost EVERY mafia role placed dead last. Especially the consort, blackmailer and consig. Those are very powerful and fun roles in my opinion
Honestly, it's pretty telling that Maf got removed from ToS2. They had so many roles that were just bad compared to Coven and All Any could absolutely screw you with something like Mafioso/2Framers.
At least all the Coven roles had some sort of contribution (even Poisoner, which is considered the worst of the lot). Maf had too many roles that were just Mafiosos in waiting.
Maf just isn't as fun as Coven, despite how powerful the three you mentioned are.
@@LAZERAK47V2 Not to mention that Coven have a lot of killing roles, even without book. Most of them kill or can kill in case of the CL Night one. Medusa has gaze, poisoner can prime someone to die, and I guess PM falls outside of this with getting to kill every so often without book.
Mafia get Ambusher or GF/Mafioso, but not both GF and MAf if they are in the game. I am not saying that the combo is bad, its actually stupidly strong... but its rare because if someone spawns in as a GF, there HAS to be a low spawn of a Maf with him to boot (since the roles will not convert D1)

Because of the pressure of the role, I’d imagine a lot of the jailor leavers are newer players who can’t handle the stress of it. It’s a super beginner unfriendly role, I could totally see people getting overwhelmed and leaving.

I hate pirates so much, most off all for their cockiness about no one wanting to kill them, that I can never help but kill them as soon as I can, whether I'm evil or town. I shoot them as vigilante, I execute them as jailor, and I stab them as serial killer. 👿
Also I really do hate playing on the Mafia team the most, so whether the stats are skewed or not, I can understand why their roles are the least popular. It's just so much pressure to play on the side that gets harshly scrutinized, judged, and hunted. And unlike other evils, they have less fun roles, and Mafioso, which every Mafia gets turned into eventually, has so little means to defend or hide themselves.

I know it sounds really scummy, but I typically kill off Guardian Angels if they aren't on my team to prevent them from coordinating with their target.
If they're protecting a high-priority kill, it's better to off the GA to force them to guess when to protect.
People leave as trans and jester? No way. Trans is the funnest role to play if you don’t give a fuck and so I hear. I get the data doesn’t lie but I feel there is more to this.

I'm disheartened that the only non-town role on this list is Pirate and not even Jester.
Town in general is so boring, why would you want to play the good guys whom most of them can't do anything interesting besides post their passively gained results every morning?
At least as evils you have agency to influence the game. If you're a Psychic you post and then you're bored. You're bored and then you post. You're just always bored.
Sure you've got your Vigilantes and your Jailors but most town is extremely boring and mundane compared to any of the Coven roles and half of the Mafia roles and any of the neutral roles that aren't named Survivor.
They just have nothing to do. And that's made worse by the simple fact that it is boring to play Town as a faction even if individual roles were more involved.
It just doesn't strike me as particularly enjoyable to play anything other than the evils. Even if you lost 100% of your games it'd still be more fun to lose as evil than to win as Town.
