My favorite episode of the series. It would have been wonderful to see Katana to return with the fleet and see the Overlord shaking in his boots when they arrived. A 90 minute or 2 hour movie titled "Blackstar: The Liberation Of Sagar" would have been fantastic!!!
@@danielcrowe9324 I guess the only fly in the ointment (if you want to call it one) for a conclusion episode would be who does John Blackstar end up with, Mara or Katana? Both women had feelings for him and fans that wanted to see him end up with one might have been disappointed if he ended up staying and cultivating a relationship with the other. As it now stands, we’ll never know, but of course that in no way whatsoever means that the ambiguity we ended up getting being somehow better than the extremely satisfying end that you spoke of.

The Overlord was probably the BEST Filmation cartoon villain, at least for us Blackstar fans. Thundarr had some pretty cool villains too, but compared to the Overlord, Skeletor was dumb and overly campy with a whiney voice to boot.
Many of the elements introduce in this series were brought over to the M.O.T.U. (Masters of the Universe) Franchise. It's good to see that Lou Scheimer and the rest of Filmation were able to both re-use and re-work old concepts and material to create something new, exciting and entertaining.
This Episode Of Blackstar Was Different Somewhat. In Genreal Saturday Morning Cartoons Were Childish, Cornball, & Silly Back Then. They Would Always End On A Cornball Laugh. I thought Blackstar got his super strength the same way John Carter of Mars did. Simply by being human on a different planet. If that's the case, Katana should' have it too. If that's not the case, then where did Blackstar's strength come from? The starsword?
The CBS line, The Tarzan, Lone Ranger, Zorro adventure hour, the Bugs Bunny, Road Runner show, Blackstar, trolkins, the Tom and Jerry comedy hour, the Kwicky Koala show

@@omarremoquillo Hmm. Thundarr and the Herculoids were never made for first-run syndication like Filmation's He-Man (by 1983 Norm Prescott retired--so he's not in the He-Man opening credits). Both Thundarr and the Herculoids shows were made for network TV. Filmation had just completed a magnificent serial version of "Flash Gordon" that was not very successful due to its being shown incomplete, and out of sequence on Saturday mornings about 1978. "Blackstar" picked up, where F.G. left off, but was again not shown in its entirety, thus it was not very interesting. However it set the way for "He-Man", which was made for a much younger audience, and without a continuing story.
I remember when they played the pilot episode at night on the NBC Saturday Night Movie around 1979. That was the first time I saw a cartoon come on at night.
3:56, "Alright Lavalocks, here's your choice. You can either shove off or leave!" 🤔 Uhhh... doesn't that mean the same choice? Then Blackstar proceeds to blow them to bits! Lol 😝
Yes, and most of them were Filmation's producer/co-owner Lou Scheimer (Randor, Orko, Dumb Donald, Stratos, Stinger (Brown Hornet's sidekick), ect...). This probably contributed to the misconception that these shows were cheap to produce. They weren't. Scheimer insisted on not outsourcing animation to other countries like Hanna Barbera and everyone else was doing. As a result, American animators didn't lose their jobs at Filmation, and that was important to him even if they were more expensive, couldn't hire but a handful, and that he wouldn't have the luxury of the fuller animation that could come cheap from outsourcing to Korean studios at the time. But he did have to cut corners somewhere, and that was with voice acting.

This dude is Overlord not Overmind. But, there were the MonsterMinds and of course the coolest baddie ever, Michael Ironside as Overdog in Space Hunter 3D.
Abso-frickin-lutely! 1) He-Man was marketed to younger kids as was seen by its “lesson of the day” segment at the end of each episode. 2) Blackstar was an Earth human with no special powers to himself save for the effect the Star Sword had on him. 3) Although MOTU was a comic series, the cartoon show clearly rode the coattails of Blackstar’s ideas. 4) The swords and their powers were evident on this show whereas, the MOTU cartoon never ever referenced the fact the He-Man’s and Skeletor’s swords were supposed to fit together to form one more powerful sword. Heck, we only saw Skeletor hold his sword only once while running, whereas he was always using his staff. 5) the Overlord looked and sounded three times as menacing than Skeletor with his whiney voice. The other supporting villains on Blackstar were much more menacing too compared with their lesser scary, sometimes downright goofy counterparts on MOTU. All that said, I can clearly remember as a child my imagination warn wild with the thought of a Blackstar-MOTU crossover. So much in fact that I drew a little comic strip of how it would be. Ah, to be young again and have only that kind of stuff to think about.
