Well, that explains quite a lot. Until now, this show has stayed very faithful to the original comic. I guess the toilet paper at Filmation ran out, because now they’re wiping their asses with that comic!
I remember when this aired in NBC. They didn't show the new episodes back to back, like this. They showed this, then reruns of the previous season. Also, I did like Gremlin.
They showed dramatically edited versions of the first season episodes. I was a big fan of _Flash Gordon_ and still am, but what was done to this series in the second season was as downright criminal as the second season changes to _Buck Rogers._
13:10 "Very soon, I, Ming the Merciless, will have revenge upon those who drove me from my throne." God _damn_ I hate this kind of dialogue, where the writer feels a character has to identify himself to the viewers. Like Ming wasn't already identified in the opening segment.
The Beast men were actually trying to save us from the torture of the hijinks of that little pink pain in the neck! Beastman at 2:38 Noooooooo! You freed him that annoying creature ,now the show is doomed !!!
Aghh! Why did they have put in a sidekick brat! Little cutey my &%!@! Another space cartoon featured a monkey wearing a mask over his eyes. Really. Why is a monkey wearing a mask when you know he's a monkey? I don't even laugh at those cutey things, there's no plot to the story anymore. It's like a playland. The first season was way better and better suited for the average viewer to understand the story. Putting a "cute" sidekick in these shows is like throwing a monkey wrench into the story!
The networks had this weird idea ( focus groups mostly) that any show aimed for a younger audience needed a "cute/funny" sidekick/ robot. The ideas behind their creation might work, but they are forced in too much for the stories sake.

It seems they followed the same path - making it all "kid friendly" thus, the plot of the story for mature audiences declined. For me, I really enjoyed watching this series because it is true science fiction. To change the whole idea and making it just for kids kinda ruined it. After that, I didn't care to for it. So I stopped watching.
@janetcraft it could be filmation got away with things like the hawkmen being vaporized and aura being very "friendly" in her actions with flash and barin for Saturday morning. To get a second series, they had to tone things down. Gremlin wasn't a bad idea, but like most of those inserted characters they became the focus over the title ones. That's why shows like thundar, the barbarian, and the first season of flash are well remembered. Kids love the more serious tones as it make them feel part of the action. Parent groups of the time are to blame mostly as they were scared of children acting out the shows and hurting themselves or others. And the producers wanting to sell the new cute characters.

I gotta tell you, the giant robot 🤖 in this episode was really epic 😎 and badass 😎.

Must have had different artists for this season. The characters all look slightly different. Worse different.

I hear you. The sound effect of the side kick was also the owner of the company. He was also the voice of Orko in He-man.
