    FLAIR you should really be constructing some sort of gravel substrate to your pond to promote reproduction. Even if there seems to be many prey fish more can never hurt to help grow large bass. Also consider stocking golden shiners in your pond. Shiners do not grow as wide as sunfish species. If a gill is too wide for a bass it cannot swallow it but since shiners are more streamline they can be eaten by bass even in a fully grown state.

    Possible suggestion: rough up PVC with coarse sandpaper to encourage algae growth as the algae can stick to the PVC better than smooth pipe

  • @trentw26
    @trentw26 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Use sprinkler tubing instead of the black tubing you got. It looks the same, but it's cheaper. Also, for the large pvc pipe, use drainage piping instead of schedule 40. It also looks the same, and is cheaper as well.

    Drill a couple holes in the bottom of the pipe, put some bolts in and then pour the cement around it in the bucket, above the bolts. The bolts will help anchor the pipe to the cement.

    So for structure wise, what we do in Virginia in our manmade ponds and even Claytor Lake, we gather Christmas trees or trees that get knocked down in the roads, we bind them together and put them in the center, it’s a natural structure that works good for cover and growing algae etc but we sink them in different spots of the water depending how big the area is

    • @DrDean_
      @DrDean_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Noonkester we do this in our lake too

    A tip for the next time you build something and you want it to stay in the cement without siding out at some point. Drill few hole in base of whatever you putting into the cement and put peace of pipe or rebar threw. Nice build really enjoyed watching you do dad things. 😂

  • @haydenfinnigan7201

    Hey Flair,
    You Could tie the basket on all 4 sides, an just have a big swivel with the 4 lines coming off the basket. Have a buoy on the other side like a bobber stop almost on surface and you can adjust the depths you need if it’s not working in the other depths!

  • @timothyparrott4030
    @timothyparrott4030 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Before putting in the concrete place a couple bolts in the white tile pipe below the level of the concrete. This will help keep the concrete attached to the tile. You can also run a few screws thru the bucket side to accomplish keeping the concrete in the bucket. I have seen where the concrete has broke free of the pipe and let it float to the surface. Put your "christmas tree" in the bucket and put the concrete in the bucket dry, tap the concrete to pack it in the pour the water over the top until it stops soaking in and it will set and hold everything in place.

    Concrete works of a process called hydration. The longer it stays wet before drying the harder it gets. An easier way to do the concrete in the bucket is put about 2 gallons of water in first then pour the concrete in. It's basically self mixing that way. And use a forstner bit for the wholes for the "branches". Cleaner cuts and less binding than a spade bit. Also you need to put something through the bottom of the "trunk" to anchor it to the concrete. Drill a hole so the concrete can get through the wall and encase the pvc or put a piece of metal or scrap pvc through for the concrete to hold on to. If the concrete gets to cold in the winter it could squeeze the trunk out and ruin the "tree". Hope this helps bud. Great video. 👍

    I know of some ponds here in South Africa where the people took old car tyres and attached like 4 of them together and just droped that in for structures a d the bass love it. Especially if you say your bottom is not flat the tyres will be awesome because it doesnt need to stand up strait it can lay down and still work awesomely

    Great idea over all on the Bush but idea for you is put the branches arching up. Then you won't get hung on it at all. Also a long stiffer cross tee at the top in case it ever gets pulled over on its side half of it won't desapear. Also get a smaller branch pvc and it will make drilling a little bit easier.

    Get a boat bunggie and attach it from the weight to the trap then add a lot of extra rope so you can stand at the dock and pull the trap in then when your done it pulls itself back out. Your pretty much just exchanging the boat for your trap set up

  • @leandrofrausto9790
    @leandrofrausto9790 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Next time put the "tree" in the bucket, next put the cement in the bucket, then the water, and then poke the cement with a stick or something so the water soakes in. Way easier. Trustt 😂

  • @CLIBBINSANDHAWGS
    @CLIBBINSANDHAWGS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can also use a lighter weight pipe, such as sewer & drain tile, or even sdr35. both are cheaper than sch. 40 and lighter to boot. fittings are also significantly cheaper.
    Also, ADS pipe comes in MANY different sizes, could buy one 10" length and section it off to make several hollow logs.

    The amount of water you add changes how strong the concrete will be. If you want strong concrete you add just enough water to get all of the concrete wet but since you don't really need it to be strong and it's just for making the tree sink the amount of water doesn't really matter. Also maybe try spiraling the holes for the tree "limbs" so it will create a larger pocket for the bass to hide in.

    Hey flair. My dad works in the concrete industry and I’ve done a science fair project with concrete. The concrete being that runny and wet when you mixed it will not ruin it. It’ll just take a little longer to cure. That’s it. Other than that it shouldn’t matter too much, especially with the sort of application you are using it for.
