    Recording motorcycle vlogging audio can be a challenge. There are of course internal mics in all GoPros and most other action cameras. But, for riders looking for a better audio option, adding an external mic is a must.
    One common route is to leverage the mic and sound processing capabilities of a two way radio. The nice thing about this approach is that it let's you record not only the sounds of the bike and the trail (ambient audio) but also the conversations held over the radio.
    With Sena's line of Bluetooth radios, conversations are mostly seamless and audio quality is quite good. The radio channel is digital, and full duplex so there's no need to push any button in order to talk.
    However, it can be quite frustrating getting your Sena conversation fully recorded into the GoPro because of some of the default firmware settings just don't make this possible. In this video we show you how to get your Sena properly connected to your GoPro and how to change the firmware settings to enable full recording of BOTH sides of your conversation.
    We also go through some of the caveats to running this type of setup and explain the audio quality results you can expect from a couple of different equipment options. In particular, we discuss how to get the most out of GoPro's mic adaptor and/or media mod.
    We also discuss how to mount up the extra components you will need by leveraging our line of unique GoPro mounts which are designed to perfectly match each of the helmets in our lineup.

      @@ExtremeSportsWannaBes i don’t have the Sena (yet) but the video was very helpful for me wrapping my brain around audio for my GoPro set up. Being new to vlogging this was very helpful. And I’m definitely buying one of your mounts. I found y’all after i had already bought a cheap universal one on Amazon, but it doesn’t allow me to get a good angle and my new hero 8 feels like it’s just looking at my front fender. (Worked fine on my hero 3 LOL)

      Awesome! It took a bit of trial and error to figure that part out and actually get both sides of the conversation to record to the GoPro. Ideally there would be a separate mic that could input engine noise and conversations that aren’t recorded through the Sena but we haven’t figured that out yet.
      Haha that’s really the reason why we started the mount project to begin with. There really isn’t a mount on the market that solves all the issues. Hopefully we can get it right :)

I had been wanting to figure out how to get their audio included in the videos so it didn’t keep sounding like a one sided conversation lol. great share bro. question. so i'm using a purple panda lav mic connected to my go pro 9 media mod. in the beginning i was able to hear more of myself than all the outside noise. i don't mind hearing a little of my bike but it's drowning out my voice. is there a way to shut off all mics for media mod as well as go pro so that only my lav mic is picking up voice? i feel like after plugging my lav mic into media mod it defaults to actually go pro mics turning on. hope this makes sense. mahalo in advance!!

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes
      @ExtremeSportsWannaBes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience, connecting an external mic disconnects the GoPro internal mic. It could be that your lav mic is picking up too much of the bike. You might be able to test which mic is recording by separating the mic from the GoPro using an extension cable. You may also try updating the GoPro firmware.

    Great video! I found you in a Google search because I use the Sena Snowtalk 2. Not sure if your solution will work with the Snowtalk 2 but I’m hoping that your info will be useful. I will check out your website too for mounts. I love that you mention flipping the screw to the left side so you can more easily access the battery door. I thought I must be on crazy pills because I had the same idea but an exhaustive Google search continues to turn up adapters with the screw to the right. How can nobody else think to flip the side of the screw?!!! Also, glad to hear about detents for positioning the angle of the camera. Again, I had the same idea because I’d like to have some repeatability in the angle of the camera. You guys clearly get it. Thanks again!

    Absolutely great video. I always wondered how some people posting on TH-cam have been able to capture the entire audio from BlueTooth communicators and this shows the process, at least for Sena. Is this type of complete audio capture possible for Cardo units? I see the key for the Sena units is it having that capability to toggle on the ability to have the users mic audio come back over their own speakers/headsets.

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes
      @ExtremeSportsWannaBes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, the order of operations doesn't matter. The Sena won't play mic audio back over the headphones (which are what you record from) unless it's connected by radio to another Sena. You'll see it cut out if you ride to far apart and lost signal, for example too. But, it'll start again once it reconnects.

    Thanks for a great video! Just picked up a hero9 and the Mrs and I have a TH-cam channel for street bikes. Was trying to come up with a way to record both our audio from our sena 20s evo. This video was just what I needed. Looks like the media mod will work great. Do you prefer one over the other?
    So by using the headphone Jack, does that disable the speakers mounted in my helmet? Also, do you have your earbuds zip tied or fastened in some way to the helmet? I was using earbuds but they were constantly being pulled out of my ear. When I would turn my heard the cord would get caught on my jacket and out it would come. Thanks!

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes
      @ExtremeSportsWannaBes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! Glad it helps! We spent forever trying to figure it out haha 😂 the media mod is definitely better than the mic adapter for sure! If you’re going to use ear buds then just take out the in helmet speakers all together. I’m not sure how street bike helmets work but I run the ear bud wires up inside the inner liner padding. That way they come down from inside the helmet and most of the wires are taken up inside the helmet and it won’t get caught on anything

    • @motorcycleden
      @motorcycleden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your previous info. Just picked up the media mod and had one more question. Is it possible to record 2 people through intercoms with the sena speakers or do I have to use the earbuds with the splitter? Thanks again.

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes
      @ExtremeSportsWannaBes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ll end up having to use the splitters because you have to split the ear phones and the audio into the GoPro. You don’t have to use the ear buds though. That’s a personal preference. You’ll record the full conversation on either end. So if only one person has a Sena and a GoPro it’ll record what the other person is saying.

    12:20 TRS: Tip, Ring, Sleeve. On a jack connector you have cable that goes on the tip, or the ring (inside), or the sleeve which is the copper shield all around the cable. On stereo connectors you can have two rings (one for left, one for right); hence TRRS. You can see black marks to separate rings on the connector.

      @@ExtremeSportsWannaBes - well, I'm also running a second microphone to capture engine noise better. So, I'm experimenting with having a microphone closer to the bike to capture exhaust, and one up in the helmet to capture commentary, if any. (I'm an oddball in the fact that when I'm usually searching around TH-cam, I'm looking for videos with good engine noise, and I rarely care about what the presenter has to say).
      I always figured there'd be a seamless way to go between GoPro and Sena, but I was definitely mistaken on that.
      I did actually find a way to capture audio with just one person (this was actually found on a video Sena made on this topic) - basically, do all of the steps you mentioned, and then download a Bluetooth recording app on your phone and turn it on. It will then activate the microphone as long as the app is on. Tried it yesterday and it worked great!
