Nice update video, This has always been a special level crossing for me As I grew up round this level crossing, And it is pretty much where my love of trains started from the late 1990s and early 2000s. I remember when the woodfired pizza place used to be a fish and chip should, Whilst we used to wait for our dinner i used to be glued to the window watching the Ganz Mavags pass, And if i recall, I think i remember seeing a few DQ's and QR locomotives as that was in the very early Tranz Rail days.
Have to admit, I have never really been happy with the upgrade that Kiwi Rail did here, Especially with when they replaced the Griswold bells, As the e-bells they used aew way too quite, And doesn't do a a great sound coverage job at all across the parameter of the level crossing. I hope they one day do an upgrade for the pedestrians by adding an additional e-bell in the centre (Which i suggested to them ages ago), Extra sets of lights, And automatic gates to replace those crappy manual ones that don't even shut properly. I also think the reason why the bells stop ringing before the barriers lift is because it still has the old control box, They haven't replaced it whereas other level crossings that used to have it had the control boxes replaced.

I agree, I'm not particularly happy with the upgrade either, I personally think that even on the slow setting that they are still too quiet, and yes I agree that they do need another bell in the centre.

Because it is a crappy manually controlled one, that was also my older video from like 5 years ago now. I also close it to stop people crossing the tracks.

how were they idiots when the train is on the southbound line and the pedestrians are going on the northbound line to cross when there is no train on the northbound

It’s still illegal to use a Level Crossing when it is active regardless of what track the train is on.
