This is awesome footage. Its rare enough to see a steam engine heading a train by itself, but to then have something like this happen and the train safely come to a stop close enough to watch the accident being cleared.
Nice vid. It's said that NZ ranks second in the world behind the UK in preserved steam per head of population, that's well ahead of Aus. The J class are nice looking locos……Hᴜɢʜ….Lɪᴋᴇᴅ…..ツ
it was the ja. The J class is more streamlined. As far as I know theres not many J class left. Theres Gloria (1211) and Carolyn which I dont know the number.
Nice catch , Mark! What a horrible sounding whistle. Chinese? Took the morons long enough to clear the car from foul. My fellow firefighters and I would have moved the car enough away in just a few minutes.
Read the description its a kiwi train the ja class. Its really offensive saying "What a horrible Whistle" just so you know here in nz we ant as lucky as other country's, profit wise.
Jono Studios - In the days of steam in the USA it was common for the engineers (drivers) to own their whistles, which they took with them when they changed engines. In the USA a "driver" is a driving wheel, not the locomotive operator.

That beauty looks alot like a Pennsy K4 Pacific!
Glad to see NZ taking pride in their railroad history!
Now the trick is to figure out how to charge the guy's insurance for wasted fuel and water.
That was just a really exciting video. Fantastic!!!
Nice video! Got more than expected.
Nagyon szép a gőzös ! Meg maga a szerelvény is.
Um, how do po-po "pull a train over?"
Cool vid, excellent loco!

Wasnt his fault, the autopilot did it
All those people gawping could of easily moved the car.
Looks like he might have bent the rail, luck there wasn't a derailment
Mark Bass No. That's just typical rough track
Poor car!! Awesome train :-)
