Celebrating 50 years from Steam Inc
To celebrate 50 years of heritage rail we are offering members, past members, and the public to join us for a day trip from Wellington to Woodville and return.
We are using all our locomotives and carriages and offering four options for the day.
On departing Wellington both trains will run alongside each other on the Up lines before parting company north of Kaiwharawhara.
Both trains are timetable for similar arrivals into Woodville.
During the 75-minute lunch stop at Woodville the trains will be turned and serviced ready for their return journeys.
    Lunch
We won't let you go hungry!
All trains will have a limited food service and we also have the option to purchase a pre-packed lunch for pickup at our stop over at Woodville Junction.
The pre-packed lunches are available for $25pp and include the following:
Crusty baguette with rocket, ham and camembert with pesto ranch dressing.
Smoked chicken, tomato and bean pasta salad with sundried tomato pesto sauce.
Chocolate cake with Swiss meringue buttercream and homemade salted caramel drizzle.
Served with fresh fruit, nuts, napkin, and bamboo cutlery.
    The Birthday Programme.
    Option 1: The Bush Rambler:
With our restored diesels DA1410 and DA1431 leading the way heads out of Wellington for the Hutt Valley and through the Remutaka tunnel to the Wairarapa. Departing Masterton we will be on the freight only line through to Woodville. You will be travelling in our 1930s restored carriages including a Buffet Car. The Bush Rambler will return down through the Wairarapa to the Hutt Valley and Wellington.
    Option 2: The Coastal:
Steam locomotives JA1271 and AB608 will lead our 1900s wooden carriages up the NIMT to Shannon for a water and service stop. Then it is on to Palmerston North before heading through the spectacular Manawatū Gorge to Woodville. After a lunch break The Coastal will return through the Manawatū Gorge to Palmerston North and then down the Kāpiti Coast to Ōtaki for a water and service stop before continuing to Wellington.
    Option 3: The Scenic Loop:
Leave Wellington watching the Steam dance in the morning sun on “The Coastal” as we make our way north via the Kāpiti Coast, through the Manawatū to Woodville where you will change trains and get to explore the forgotten trackage of the northern Wairarapa line for your return journey to Wellington on our diesel hauled “Bush Rambler”
    Option 4: The All-Rounder:
As the name implies if you want a taste of it all this is the tour for you! Begin your morning on the “Bush Rambler” hauled by our lovingly restored Diesel electric locomotives where you can listen to their thunder bounce off the hills in the Hutt valley, through the tunnel and up into the gorgeous Wairarapa on our way to Woodville where you will change trains. Jumping on “The Coastal” for its southbound excursion back to wellington via the Manawatu will give you an opportunity to take it easy and watch the sunset from your seat as we let our steam engines do the work!

Nice presentation of this outstanding organisation.
I live in the Netherlands but visited NZ twice yet, and I was impressed by the amount of railway preservation going on, and also by the welcoming atmosphere in most of the groups.
There was no place where we couldn't get access to see the collection, even when there were just some volunteers working on a non running day, and on one occasion we even were invited on the footplate for a trip when a loco was under test.
At Steam Inc at Paekakariki we could walk and look around in their workshops and sidings, and very surprisingly I met someone also from the Netherlands who I knew, he was volunteer at the same preserved railway in the Netherlands as I was! That was a very big coincidence to meet him at the other end of the world, if it was a lottery ticket I would have had the jackpot.

@@nzrfan608 Yup if or when they get running that is. I might even just go down to the Pilmmerton Depot to see if any of the lads want to talk camera. But I'll be covering GVR, Waka Pass, Silver Stream and Dunedin Railways too at some point. But every one will be includes it just takes time is all. As I do this in my free time away from work and whānau with no financial assistance from anyone to travel, film and present these episodes. I do it to introduce people to the best hobby in the world being a railfan 😊
