There certainly seemed to be a lot more freight movements in those days. What a tragedy that the silver star carriages and silver fern railcars never saw their potential usage.
I alway remember catching the bus(Newman)from nelson to Picton with my mum and sister back in the early and late 80s.Then we catch the boat over to wellington then on the day train to Hamilton for holidays at the family farms on the Kaimai. But we use catch the night train back which was bloody awesome.I miss though days....Chers for uploading this!!
Well this brings back some old memories, my dad used to be an engineer out of Westfield and I got to ride on a lot of the engines in this video in the late 80s/early 90s. Thanks for the video!
Excellent catch with the Silver Star cars going north. This was when the cars which had been stored in Wellington since 1979 were going to Auckland. They ran to Taumarunui then continued on the next day.
That was really awesome! Do you have any more footage of "The Northerner"? I remember travelling on that train many times, back in the day when the journey was half the fun :-)
Paekok Station Master I noticed too that the buffet car was missing from the northerner consist, must have been nearing the end of the service using the yellow cars.
So many good memories
There certainly was and they were the days!
Pretty boring now in comparison!
@@paekokstationmaster5032 boring is right!

Yeap things were a lot more interesting in those days for sure, but of course that was the same for most countries in the world!

Glad that it brought back some memories. I remember catching the overnight train on a number of different occasions as well!
These where the good days... remember them fondly!
Yes indeed , not the same these days that's for sure!

No worries Pat and glad you enjoyed and I hope you have seen some of my other stuff.
Trains seemed to go a lot faster then, than they do today. That sole loco was motoring through Paekok station!

Not much of the original yellow cars but plenty on some of the other clips after the train became blue!
