The new Peugeot 208 may be a small, five-door hatchback but it’s rather a big deal. The expectations are high and not just because the competition is so good. The new Renault Clio, arriving imminently in UK showrooms, does much of what the 208 promises to do; there’s the badge appeal of the Volkswagen Polo, and the all-round brilliance of the market leader, the Ford Fiesta.

I agree with you, after reviewing it in my channel I must say it's probably the most stylish B-segment car available, although I have strong opinons supporting the Citroen C3!

Definitely the most appealing supermini... and no other European reviewers seem to rate every Ford model as the gold standard in everything. That seems to be an exclusively British phenomenon.
As an European I don't even know what if Ford equivalent for this.

Test drive a car and try it for yourself... speak to other drivers or owners and then you can get a better opinion. Some of these car reviewers just chat straight garbage
208 is no-brainer. Makes Ford and VW so dull and lazy. If you sit properly you will see 3D dials. On standard cars with truck size steering wheel, view is also compromised if you don't sit as you should. Proper seating position is must for safety, there is no personal preference there, I like this, I like that ....
This 208 is so far better than polo and.. every cars is far better than fiesta

Absolutely livid because not long ago I got a Peugeot 208 (17 plate) and then this beauty comes out 😭 *waits patiently until I can upgrade*

It's funny, in france, no media actually likes how the fiesta is riding, neither it's interior ... And it reflects in its poor sales here ... I don't really understand how our appreciation of the same car can be that different ...
In France the Fiesta have a VERY BAD interior like all other country. Only in Uk the fiesta is perfect and magic because British is biased and Fiesta is built in UK. British are not fair, its them Dna.

I’m from 🇬🇧 and I can’t stand Ford and the cheap tacky interior and have sworn by Peugeot by having the 208 feline and then 208 gti by PS.. best car in the segment by miles 🙌🏼❤️

OMG, are people going to stop talking bad about the wheel in I-cockpit!?! I would never even look the other brand until they accept this system, it's that good. Just setup the driving position and everything works perfectly. If you want to lay down like driving in formula 1, buy a Ferrari.
I feel the same. I can't stand those huge truck wheels anymore. I've been driving a 208 for 4 years now and just brought the e-GT.

Well, the fiesta did lose its one spot in the sales chart in the UK because the 208’s sister, the Corsa, is now the best selling car there. And in continental Europe, the 208 is now the best selling car, beating not just the Clio, but also the decades-long sales-charts-king, the Golf.

Mine is the 208 GT. Automatic. . it’s gorgeous in Far Yellow Small steering wheel. No problem with it but like said has its blind spots makes you take more care. As a previous. 6. Times over these Peugeot. Cars can’t get much better. As a 85. Year drive. Love it to bits

lol what is it with British motor journalists taking the seriously mediocre and mundane Fiesta as the benchmark for superminis? This is vastly superior as is the new Clio.

You forgotten to mention the wireless charger behind the iPhone stand you highlighted & the yellow is stunning! The automatic is my choice as it one of the smoothest there is in this segment!

They don't have to be right. It doesn't matter, no one cares, it's all about saying enough nice things about the car that they get the free trips the free toys and more importantly the advertising. Car mags sell advertising not cars. Like knitting magazines sell adverts not wool. 2.8/5 is over half so the ads will still be bought, more pretty pics, everyone's a winner.
Auto trader absolutely love VW, the polo and the fiesta are benchmarks according to AT. The polo with its uninspiring looks and bland interior is referred to as 'refined' and 'classy'. Definitely paid off by certain manufacturers. The Nissan Quashqai has a high rating but if you look on forums, only around 1 or 2 people out of 5 are happy with the car and don't have reliability issues.

Ah sweet Peugeot 208! I also reviewed it in my channel! I must say I liked what they had done, I'm a fan of their styling, but the small steering wheel is rather odd...
That was like watching a floating jacket and head.

How does it compare to new Clio? Both great cars but which is better?
Clio is for me better looking, bigger on space inside and with better pricetag for the same tier od equipment (3.5k euro cheaper)
I love it! Won't be able to afford one until 2032*, probably, but I love it.
*And a base, badly used one, moreover.
They change their model every 6-7 years. Two generations will be out and the next one will be only available in full electric.

I have a Fiesta MK 7.5 ST and it’s interior is a fantastic design, if cheap. The new MK8 Fiesta instrument binnacle design is crap by comparison and reminds me of Fiestas from 20 years ago! This 208 utterly shames it!

For looks Nissan's Micra is the best looking small car in the world at the moment. The styling is wonderful and complex surfacing is beyond reproach. 😌

Cool design. Shame there's no 3-door GTI with more power and lowered suspension. This one really rides high.
negative points do not sound so ... bad - I remember the same issue with my Range Rover Evoque - it was never an issue for me, but at the time, the press was crying about the lake of visibility of the back of the car ... what I never understood : it was big enough to make me see cars coming in the back, and when I was reversing the gear, let say, for parking, I was using the camera ... so ... ?
It is pity they do not focus more on the EV version of it, because for the coming years, I think it's not very 'wise' to use a version that is not EV or at least an hybrid - because this car will be clearly a success for people living in cities - and they are more an more restriction for 'regular' cars.
I can't understand why somebody would put the fully adjustable steering wheel in a position where he can't see the dials just because that's his favourite position for a wheel.. Madness and of course dangerous.

Why do they always have to cut the bonnet in two? It is like drawing lines across peoples' noses.
Some trims of the first generation 208 also had badges on the C-pillar. I would find it unlikely that anything below GT trim would have this, so it's really not a big change from its predecessor in anything other than style. The shape of the C-pillar is certainly more reminiscent of the 205 though.
There's a wireless charging point in that centre console cubby that I've seen two reviewers miss out so far (but you did, to be fair, point out that this comes as standard with the Allure trim, which is lower down the range, in your written article).
You do talk up the interior as a really nice place to be with excellent fit and finish... but then say it's hardly luxurious. Do Peugeot need to launch another XY trim to up the ante a bit more? What makes the competition (i.e. the Audi A1) more luxurious, as it were?
Finally, I dislike hearing WLTP for fuel consumption and NEDC for emissions. The car industry is hugely guilty of this and it's very misleading. 84g/km would equate to about 105g/km on WLTP. It's just worth mentioning that emissions will be a proportion higher than published figures.

Depends on the engines, family member has the GTI and hasn't had any issues.

@@britishentertainment7610Well, I'm not suggesting it will sell more than Renault or VW because it is a better car overall but should definitely win more customers than recent model. Remember that 207 was the best selling car for a year or two in Europe beating even a Golf. Anything is possible. The main reason that this model might not repeat this, because is not very cheap anymore. Peugeots are almost on par with VWs in pricing unfortunately.

@British Entertainment You’re wrong. If you look at Autocar’s countdown from feb 2021, you’ll learn that the new 208 is Europe’s best selling car. Only the New Clio is closest in the small hatchback class coming in at sixth place.

The fiesta is no match for this. Everything about the fiesta screams pension car. They really ruined that car... a shame really when you look at the focus.
Totally disagree. The second you get in any modern Ford you just _get_ it. Everything works, everything feels right, everything feels equal and even. Looks pretty sharp too.
