- On October 17, 2018 WQXR presented mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča in an exclusive event recorded at The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space in New York City. She was accompanied by Brian Zeger, Artistic Director of the Vocal Arts Department at The Juilliard School, on piano.

She deserves a standing ovation!! Loved the expressions as well ❤Great job.
One of my favorite songs, by Robert Schumann or anyone. And sung by Elina with such grace and deep feeling. Latvia produces great singers. My wife and attended the Latvian Song Festival in July and were blown away by the quality of the choral singing. There is nothing that can compare to it, both in the quality of the choral literature and the skill of the singers. You have much to be proud of. One of my favorite operas is your national opera, Banuta by Alfreds Kalnins, born in Cecis.

Is it the original key??
She sings one wrong word. Instead of "Du meine Seele," she sings "Du meine Wonne."

What's with this recent tendency for accompanists in solo song to have the piano lid all the way up? It destroys the balance. With a piece of this intimacy and in (what seems like) a fairly small recital hall?? Doesn't make sense--makes the piano brighter than it perhaps should be. The vocal inflections here seem to alternate between a little too precious & a little too hoch dramatisch.
I see that all the time lately and I don't like it.

I like Elina, but this is too dark and heavy for Schumann, or lieder in general.
