  • On December 22nd 2022 Tesla gave most Tesla drivers in Australia a 30 day trial of Enhanced Autopilot which is normally a $5100 in App software upgrade.
    In this video I demonstrate and give you an overview of how some of those features work.

      When you come upon a passing lane, normally the road markings will take you into the passing lane but at the end of the passing lane you need to cross a dotted line, so the car automatically crosses this line, question is will it give way?

      @@alexanderchase1275 I don't know. It certainly is handy to have some of the features. I would like to have the features in my car. But I don't have a spare $5100 lying around to buy it. 😉
      If I had that kind of money burning a whole in my pocket then I think I would get the enhanced autopilot. My wife made a good point. She said she'd prefer if the features where broken up. She wouldn't use Navigate on auto, but she would use the automatic lane changes.
      I would use that and I've actually found that the normal Summon is quite useful. But I don't think the smart summon is good enough yet that I could trust it in a busy parking lot.
      So would be nice if we had the option to buy only one or two features at a cheaper price.
      But I do appreciate that breaking it up could make it more complex for Tesla to do, it is software, so I think it could be done.
      Interestingly enough, I've recently had access to a car with Full Self Driving, and I've found the traffic light and stop sign thing a lot more useful than I thought I would, but I certainly don't have the full $10K for all of that. Will have a video about it in a few weeks time coming out.

    nice video but that mic in the beginning, it's horribly edited, would've probably sounded better without the filters, might be a thing to put some time into :). Btw speed based lane changes doesn't affect the speed at witch the car makes the lane change, it actually reacts to how fast the car in front of you is driving and based on the setting can be more or less "patient" in doing a lane change if the car ahead is for example only doing 5km/h slower than you.

    • @notacarguy_au
      @notacarguy_au  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, It does also depend on what country you're in as to what features you get, but this is who it works in Australia.
      Standard autopilot is what comes with the car. That will give you adaptive cruise control and keep you in the lane on autopilot.
      Enhanced auto pilot will give you these added features.
      In autopilot it will also change lanes for you and it can navigate when you have destination set in the navigation. This only works on a highway, but will will change lanes, highways and take the off ramp for you.
      You also get summon, which allows you to move the car back and forward into or out of a parking spot.
      Smart summon will have the car drive to you in a parking lot. I should have mentioned this in the video, but it's really slow. I was too excited, just to see it work. 🤣 So with it working so slow, I am not sure how useful it is.
      You also get autopark, which means the car can park itself. I haven't tried that yet.
      FSD or Full Self driving, gives you everything you get in Enhanced Autopilot but you get the added feature the that car will stop and go at traffic lights and stop signs.
      Hope that helps.

    I know EAP is good for some people that really need it, but for me retired and only drive around town and hardly ever get on 4 lane highways, Basic Auto Pilot is good enough for me. I don't need auto lane changing, auto park, or any of the Summons features. And that is what EAP does. Plus 6,000 dollars is a little too steep for me price wise. We should get these standard with our 50K Tesla vehicle, but that is another story.
    I just got my new 2023 model Y LR Aug 2023. Enjoy the vehicle and tried both cruise and basic Auto pilot. Both work well so far for me. How much use I will get out of these remains to be seen. I can't even afford now FSD being 12K dollars.
    Bye!!

    Pretty sure Exit Passing Lane just means don't stay in the overtaking lane if set to Yes. Say No and I would suppose the car just stays in the overtaking lane until close to exit ramp time.

    I hate that feauture where you have to apply force for it to change lanes or take exit ramp. In the states that seems not the case. Also if you accendentially put too much pressure the autopilot disengages. And for this reason I don't see the advantage of auto lane change. If you have to apply pressure, you might as well apply a bit more and change lanes yourself lol. Elon Musk please fix these for Europe

    • @notacarguy_au
      @notacarguy_au  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You make a good point. For me though the advantage of still being able to get the lane change is that when on autopilot I don't have to turn autopilot off to change lanes and then turn it on again once I am in the other lane.
      With this features I can change lanes and still have autopilot turned on. But I appreciate this may not be that advantages for other people. I don't like having the car decide when to change lanes and do it all for me. I've had too many experiences were it almost merged into another car in another lane. So I prefer to still have some "manual" control.
      Unfortunately it's a mute point for me as the 30 day trial in Australia ends next week and I don't have the money to buy the enhanced autopilot, so I'll be losing it in about 7 days times anyways. 🥲

    • @waseemmalik3281
      @waseemmalik3281 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@notacarguy_au Yeah your first point I totally agree 100%. Switching lanes is very annoying when you have autopilot on but without the enhanced package.
      I understand your second point but you can still give the order to switch lane by confirming or turning on the blinker. I don't like the applying pressure thing. The car takes the exit by it's own without you having to touch the steering wheel, so why apply pressure for a simple lane change??
      Now they have a camera in the cockpit. I really hope they get rid of this "apply pressure" feauture and also the duration when you have to apply hands on the steering wheel. Here in Europe you can't even let go the steering for like 5 seconds or the car starts sending alerts. It doesn't seem like 30 seconds like in the states.

    • @LeeHerbet
      @LeeHerbet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waseemmalik3281 Yeah, I'd agree with that. I don't mind if they changed it so we only had to indicate to initiate the lane change and not have to turn the wheel a bit. I think the notice to keep hands on the wheel is fairly "fair" for us here in OZ. It feels like it's probably about 2-3 minutes. Not sure, I've never actually timed it.
