Floor is my top female vocalist in metal, and I completely agree that she should be in Nightwish, I cannot think of a better person for that job. However, I like this cover very much. If I like a certain song with one singer, it doesnt mean I have to dislike other versions ;). On the contrary, I have these two beautiful versions of the song, and I choose which one to listen to according to my mood. Win-win situation for me.
You're damn right, Dianne is one hell of a vocalist. Some people might get angry at me for this, but she's better at operatic singing than Tarja, and despite the fact that she's a quite massive dramatic voice, she still has that softer, emotional edge which other operatic voices in metal mostly lack.

For Nightwish, the perfect fit, is Floor Jansen. Her vocal range can handle the higher pitch, operatic notes, and she definitely can handle the more pop based sound of Anette Olzon. I feel for Anette, cos most fans didn't give her a fair shake, taking over for someone with a voice like Tarja Turunen! But Amaranth & Bye Bye Beautiful, along with Storytime were good songs for Anette's skill set!! JMO!
Unless you're off key (which Elize Ryd far to often is), there is no such thing as singing wrong. You can have an opinion about the style, but there is no right or wrong.

Anette's Dark Passion Play is the most sold metal album ever in Nightwish's home country Finland (5 platinums), her albums are globally 2nd and 3rd best selling after Tarja's "once". Professional critics loved her albums, and her songs are most wieved NW-songs in TH-cam. Zelous Floor fans tell this myth Anette wouldn't be loved, but that's only true among zealous Floor/Tarja fans.
LOVE Elizes voice on Nemo! I know why she ticked off comments on her audio upload,some people are just too darn negative and dramatic on YT,spreading hate and nonsence. Elize over Anette any day of the week though. A petite woman,with a beautiful cute voice,but man oh man can she push that voice to be heard. That shows me dedication,passion and hard work laying behind it. Unlike artists like Britney Spears who allways was more concerned of selling herself as a sexualized object with playback live. If she just sang with the voice she had..... There is a long way up to Floor,even with Tarjas strong dramatic operatic sounds. But its just silly to compare anyway. But technically? A much stronger voice live then Anette has,just a shame that they found her abit too young when she auditioned. But knowing the outcome now,Floor in Nightwish and Elize in Amaranthe....it was for the better. Get to admire theyr performances at the same time,in 2 great bands!
the only thing I find shocking about Elize's voice in this song is you can really hear her accent come through and it's not as noticeable when she's with Amaranthe. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, quite the opposite actually. But I am glad she wasn't drawn into the fan wars and all that drama with Nightwish.
That's why she perfectly fits in Amaranthe. We got used to her voice being backed up by growling that it does feel awkward to rely entirely on her clear voice.
The voice sounds very good, but i don't think the song was meant for a mezzo. The only color that can nail it is a soprano. It's a very gentle song. This voice fits into something more brutal, like Amaranthe, say.
Elize must have come soooo close to becoming the second singer with Nightwish. I agree that Floor is the best. She is head and shoulders above everyone else, no pun intended. But Elize is a great singer.

Hmmm... I'm not sure how I feel about this. I mean, I love Elize and Amaranthe, but... I don't know, after 9 years of only hearing Tarja's voice on the studio version... I dunno, I think this is too much of a change for me to process in one listen. That said, if she had gotten in, I'm sure Tuomas would have worked the same magic he did with Anette and written a masterpiece around her voice. Sterling effort on the video too, done a bit of editing myself so I know how much of a pain it can be to sync everything up, but you did a great job!

Better than Annette, but not Floor. Had Tuomas chosen her over Annette all those years ago, who knows if there would have ever been Floor with Nightwish or Elize with Amaranthe. Things have a way of working out.
I am now perfectly torn between loving this and wishing for it to be fact that Elize would be NW's lead singer, but that would mean she wouldn't do Amaranthe and nobody wants that, right? This video is the perfect "conflict of interest". I love the old Nightwish, I love Elize, I love this kind of music.

Actually the band voted, and they all voted for Anette. Tuomas tells this in interview. But I like Elize and I think she would do great with many Nightwish songs. Actually she saved Nightwish's behind in Denver, when Anette was taken hospital, Elize and Alyssa came to help Nightwish and did the singing. There's a (bad audio) video of it.

I think DPP songs would sound even better with Elize. She has a similar sound to Anette, but she also sings high notes with more ease, and she would not sound so squeaky and strained. That is the problem I had with Anette. I don't know know why Elize was not chosen, they would get the similar, yet better voice. And the bonus: Elize is super attractive, and she actually dresses and acts like a metalhead on the stage. I know that fans care a lot about this, because Anette was given hard time because she was not giving an impression of a typical metal singer.
Wow, Elize did an awesome cover of this song. Also, this is from an audition, as in demo? This sounds remastered as if it was on an album. Happy she is the ruler of Amaranthe. Funny, as I have lost interest in Nightwish (from Imaginarium, not by singer just by the entire band) aside from Floor covering older songs. I think perhaps great covers is the best we shall get. In the meantime, to Elize covering this so well, and to the future of Elize Ryd's blooming career.
Elize has a great voice but she leans towards a more poppy sound. If you listen to any of the stuff she does with Amaranthe you'll hear it. Nightwish lucked out getting Floor. She's perfect for the songs, even better than Tarja.
No one is better than Tarja. Tarja MADE Nightwish what it is with her operatic voice, (the symphonic metal includes her operatic vocals), and Floor does not sing with that style at all. Her voice uses no larynx.

Considering all the high notes in this song are created by computer because Elize can't actually hit them, nor can she sing lyrical ("operatic")....well, I'm glad she wasn't chosen for NW.
She can hit very high notes, don't worry about that. Plus, there is a live video of her singing this song with Nightwish, if you were not aware of it, and her vocals are better than studio version. She screwed up few parts because she was reading lyrics from a sheet, but that's it. I don't know why would you be glad that she was not chosen, I'd rather have her voice on DPP and Imaginaerum than Anette's. Not to mention that she has a better stage presence, headbangs, and so on.
Elize Ryd didn't collaborate or sing with Nightwish except that one time when Annette got sick. She auditioned for the role, but we know how that went. >.> And you're using footage from Amaranthe's "Amaranthine" and :The Nexus".

Eartheart Baratheon The irony is, that she and Alissa stepped up to do a NW show when Anette fell sick. (The moment all exploded) so in the end she did one hell of a great job singing with NW! But I agree on the fact that all are in the right spot (although I must say I loved Alissa and Elize singing with Kamelot as well!)
Elize has a wonderful upper range to her voice! IMO, it's not fair to compare her to Tarja since this song was written with Tarja's voice in mind. It's worth nothing that the other two singers that Nightwish brought on board were/are unable to match Tarja's version of this song. Basically, the point is that very few people COULD match Tarja with this song - instead, enjoy what this singer was able to do; I know I did : )
Nice video, but in reality i think her voice would have been a little to thin in certain vocal ranges to ever work with nightwish in the long run. Love her performance with amaranthe and when she works(ed) with other bands. Floor Jansen however fits like a glove. So all things considered things worked out quite nicely. The only thing i would wish for is a better quality "denver debacle" video. The entire show was a blast but the quality you can find online is just atrocious.
Nobody sings this like Tarja. I loved the acoustic version Anette did live too. This is really beautiful too. Amaranthe are an amazing band and Elize is an amazing vocalist
You should listen to more symphonic metal then, there are bigger talents with operatic voices. 10 to 15 years ago, she was still unsurpassed, but voices like hers are now almost a norm in this genre.

Saw conceert from Denver, Elize did a very nice favor to Nightwish!
Better than Annette, but not Floor. Had Tuomas chosen her over Annette all those years ago, who knows if there would have ever been Floor with Nightwish or Elize with Amaranthe. Things have a way of working out.

I am now perfectly torn between loving this and wishing for it to be fact that Elize would be NW's lead singer, but that would mean she wouldn't do Amaranthe and nobody wants that, right?

rully wibisono Elize herself uploaded the tape on youtube, you can easily find it. There is also video with her live with Nightwish, where you can see how much her voice developed since then on the same song.
Actually the band voted, and they all voted for Anette. Tuomas tells this in interview.
But I like Elize and I think she would do great with many Nightwish songs.
Actually she saved Nightwish's behind in Denver, when Anette was taken hospital, Elize and Alyssa came to help Nightwish and did the singing. There's a (bad audio) video of it.

i 'm verry glad with Floor on Nightwish , but if i hear this audition i think that elize will have done a good job while she was gonna accepted in Nightwish, but i don't know how good her opera skills are? but no matter how many times Nightwish chance their voc's , there are always gonna be haters tot the new one ! and Elise is great in amaranthe, So ontving to hate or complaining about 😉
+Robin Blieck I think she never did operatic vocals, although I heard her doing something resembling classical vocals on tour with Kamelot. But I think she would do very well if she took some classical singing lessons.
+Sarke Talovic thats what i was wondering about, because she have her auditions before Nettie joined, So what i was asking myself, how wil song's like amaranth , last ride of today , storytime, sound with Elize on voc's😉 live a way beter than nettie's i guess! i don't know how to explain, but i like Elize's style, but i guess that Nightwish woulnd treat her just like nettie and using het voc's in the wrong way! to explain it i will say listen to songs of After forever for Floor, listen to Revamp and then listen to endless forms most beautyfull! Floor van do So much more than Tuomas let het do ! everybody that have seen Nightwish live wil see the skills of Floor in the old songs, because it leans more to her skills! and in that case ( my opinion) is it better for Elize they don't accept het, because she's having great band now with Amaranthe!
I think DPP songs would sound even better with Elize. She has a similar sound to Anette, but she also sings high notes with more ease, and she would not sound so squeaky and strained. That is the problem I had with Anette. I don't know know why Elize was not chosen, they would get the similar, yet better voice. And the bonus: Elize is super attractive, and she actually dresses and acts like a metalhead on the stage. I know that fans care a lot about this, because Anette was given hard time because she was not giving an impression of a typical metal singer.

Wow, Elize did an awesome cover of this song. Also, this is from an audition, as in demo? This sounds remastered as if it was on an album. Happy she is the ruler of Amaranthe. Funny, as I have lost interest in Nightwish (from Imaginarium, not by singer just by the entire band) aside from Floor covering older songs. I think perhaps great covers is the best we shall get. In the meantime, to Elize covering this so well, and to the future of Elize Ryd's blooming career.

Elize has a great voice but she leans towards a more poppy sound. If you listen to any of the stuff she does with Amaranthe you'll hear it. Nightwish lucked out getting Floor. She's perfect for the songs, even better than Tarja.
No one is better than Tarja. Tarja MADE Nightwish what it is with her operatic voice, (the symphonic metal includes her operatic vocals), and Floor does not sing with that style at all. Her voice uses no larynx.

Considering all the high notes in this song are created by computer because Elize can't actually hit them, nor can she sing lyrical ("operatic")....well, I'm glad she wasn't chosen for NW.
She can hit very high notes, don't worry about that. Plus, there is a live video of her singing this song with Nightwish, if you were not aware of it, and her vocals are better than studio version. She screwed up few parts because she was reading lyrics from a sheet, but that's it. I don't know why would you be glad that she was not chosen, I'd rather have her voice on DPP and Imaginaerum than Anette's. Not to mention that she has a better stage presence, headbangs, and so on.

Elize Ryd didn't collaborate or sing with Nightwish except that one time when Annette got sick. She auditioned for the role, but we know how that went. >.> And you're using footage from Amaranthe's "Amaranthine" and :The Nexus".

she's talented without doubt I know everyone has their opinions but I'm not a huge fan of her band though amaranthe...they have like foyr songs I really like that's it...where nighwish has dozens...so that's my thing I like the writing better w nightwish

To me she's pop-like, so I preffer her somewhere else than Nightwish. but she gets the high-notes. Check in 3:46, it's a good one

I love Elize and i think she would have been better than Annett but i'm really happy Floor has joined the band and Amaranthe is one of my all time favourite bands so i'm really pleased Elize is with them rather than Nightwish. She did an excellent job with this song though.

TeamGrell2013 I agree, though it's hard to judge from the solo audition since the song she picked here is ment to be soft (vocal).
Eartheart Baratheon The irony is, that she and Alissa stepped up to do a NW show when Anette fell sick. (The moment all exploded) so in the end she did one hell of a great job singing with NW! But I agree on the fact that all are in the right spot (although I must say I loved Alissa and Elize singing with Kamelot as well!)
That show was a hell of an experience. One I'd not trade for anything.

Elize has a wonderful upper range to her voice! IMO, it's not fair to compare her to Tarja since this song was written with Tarja's voice in mind. It's worth nothing that the other two singers that Nightwish brought on board were/are unable to match Tarja's version of this song. Basically, the point is that very few people COULD match Tarja with this song - instead, enjoy what this singer was able to do; I know I did : )
Elize does great job in this imho.
And her voice would fit to many Nightwish songs.

Nice video, but in reality i think her voice would have been a little to thin in certain vocal ranges to ever work with nightwish in the long run. Love her performance with amaranthe and when she works(ed) with other bands. Floor Jansen however fits like a glove. So all things considered things worked out quite nicely.
The only thing i would wish for is a better quality "denver debacle" video. The entire show was a blast but the quality you can find online is just atrocious.
Nobody sings this like Tarja. I loved the acoustic version Anette did live too. This is really beautiful too. Amaranthe are an amazing band and Elize is an amazing vocalist

You should listen to more symphonic metal then, there are bigger talents with operatic voices. 10 to 15 years ago, she was still unsurpassed, but voices like hers are now almost a norm in this genre.
She would certainly be a great choice, if not the best.
With dragonland she does a relly good job, on the songs cassiopeia and to late for sorrow
