You have to respect the skills of Elize Ryd and Alissa White. Even Floor had 48 hours to study the songs before her first gig, these two ladies had 55 minutes!

Nothing against Elize and Alissa they did a really great job singing those songs but they have a piece of paper in there hand what Floor does not have when she had her first gig in Seattle, so you have say hat off for Floor singing those songs by memory.

This performance has reached legendary status with European metal fans in Denver and is still talked about at every show I attend. I was in the balcony of this show and it was clear the band was stressed although obviously we didn't know the full extent of the story at the time. It was one of the most courageous performances I've ever seen by a band and it was our honor to support them with all of the energy we could muster. Nightwish, Alissa and Elize (saw her in later with Amaranthe) will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Denver because of the courage they showed.

It was an unfortunate and yet a so magical night. I too was at the show on the floor right behind the mid-floor railing. I was sad not to see Annette but she is only one instrument in the music and that is what makes Nightwish so unique and special. The compositions can stand on their own without the singer and we all knew it!
I'll never forget how scared Tuomas looked when he came out to ask out permission. I'm glad we could give them support during that difficult time and forever thankful that the show went on. I think I might forget my name before I ever forget that epic night.

I am going to longtime Nightwish fan hate (btw i am a fan of all three vocalist and even some covers (ex - Nemo) that Elize has done in studio) but I think Floor does some of the songs better then the original vocalist ... IN BOTH cases
I just do not "hate" Anette as much as some do ... depending on the song, I think she does it best.

@@Xmetalfanx Floor is for sure the second best singer the band has ever had (behind Marco of course, old school fan of his so biased, he is how I found Nightwish in the first place) but yes, several of the pop rockier for lack of a better term songs that were written for her style are best sung by Annette, but over all Floor owns all of their library. I was so happy they were able to bring in a singer that had the range to do both Tarja and Annette's songs, as Annette couldn't do a lot of the old stuff, and I don't like Tarja when she tries to cover more poppy rock stuff (she has done some metallica covers for instance that as much as I like the original song and her, I can't finish her cover of). Floor has the range to do it all, and a great natural stage presence, I like her live best of all 3.

This video is from their documentary Anette tried to have blocked from coming out. Overall, we see metal singers, guitarists, drummers, fill in for each other all the time. Never on last second notice like this, but it is normal. Anette, who had been causing a lot of problems to begin with, tore into the guys on her blog the next day, saying "if Britney spears was sick, you would not see her letting Beyonce fill in for her". it was just absolutely silly. She was actually comparing herself to those solo superstars as opposed to being a singer in a metal band.
In any case, she had also vetoed Floor being used to fill in for her for the rest of the tour she wanted cancelled and she demanded they use a pop singer. She later admitted it was because she knew the metal fans would embrace Floor over her, and in hindsight her fears were justified since Floor is easily the best singer they have ever had, even over Tarja.

I'm in agreement with another person who posted that this Denver show, which very, very unusual, was NOT a debacle, but a miracle of sorts. I didn't know much about Nightwish at the time. Two days after this Denver show I road tripped from where I was stationed in the Seattle area to Salt Lake City to see the show with Kamelot, as I was, and still am, a huge Kamelot fan. (Since then I've become a huge Nightwish fan as well). Two days later I saw the same show again in Seattle and realized that Nightwish had changed vocalists. I was taken aback somewhat to see a different singer but Floor was absolutely fantastic. The documentary "Please Learn The Setlist In 48 Hours" later explained it all to me.
I'm grateful for and love Annette's work with Nightwish and believe that she is an incredible vocalist. I also realize that sometimes things change and times does tell that changes can be and are better overall for all parties involved. Time DOES tell.....
I like to think that as far as being a fan of Nightwish goes, I may be one of the very few fans to have seen Annette's last show and Floor's first show just two days later. In a weird kind of way I'm thankful to have seen both given the circumstances involved. Knowing what is presented in the documentary makes it somewhat heartbreaking to know what Annette and the band had to go through even though I'm sure it goes much deeper than what we as fans know about.
Being the Kamelot fan that I am I've been able to meet both Elize and Alissa and they are such nice ladies and very capable and amazing singers in their own right. Nightwish was fortunate to have them in their circle on this tour.
I get nostalgic when I think of those days that I experienced. I'm glad to have experienced them.

@@GothicLightingQueen I'm very sure they don't count as regular alphabet. I am from Germany and our alphabet has 26 letters. Although that is, as you noticed, not the whole truth, as we also have ä, ö, ü, and ß. But nobody would ever claim that the German alphabet has 30 letters, although it would technically be correct... Unsurprisingly, ä, ö, and ü are basically variations of a, o, and u. In principle "only" the tongue position is changed to pronounce these. And ß is basically a double s... And I guess, because these are just variations, they don't count towards the normal alphabet...

Ozzy is said to have had lyrics written on the stage. Some major singers have been known to use teleprompts. You have to admire the honesty of clinging onto the notes in full view as if the world depended on it. Which it did. But this is a singer who had 30 minutes to rehearse a long set, relying on a cappella from other band members to get the tune. First time. In comparison to people like Ozzy and Rob Halford, who learned the music from dark spirits from Beyond.
I am shocked that the vocalists were as outrageously superb as they were. I am also in deep admiration of the fans that night. That's true fandom, fuelling the band with positivity and blasting the sheer panic I'm sure they felt with energy from Valhalla. You just don't get many audiences like that.
Since there are people here who were there that night, a huge kudos and a thank you from a newer fan for your amazing work in helping glue it all together and helping a band in need.

Just love how the community is willing to go along cause we're easy going like that. Just the fact that the band asked instead of outright cancelling was enough in my eyes to go along with anything they would've proposed instead of cancelling.
