  • Thermal Vat Band Unboxing and In Depth Review. I unbox and set up this 3D resin printer vat heater for printing a small mini. At the time of this review the temp in my space was 44 Deg F or about 6 Deg C, very cold for any 3D resin process. I was testing how well the Vat Band could keep resin up to temp for printing in very cold temps. I found that it is very capable of keeping the resin to a consistent temperature.
    Here is the site for the vat band. I am not associated with them in any way. I do believe that this is a very viable option for warming your resin vat during the cold seasons.

    I’ve been thinking about making something like this for a while now, much easier to just buy one! 😅 Thanks for the video. 👍

      @@Original-Werks it didnt break in hindsight, I live in the UK and they tend to need to warm up before using it in colder environments AKA my garage

    really good review ,looks like its a useful bit of kit ,just a shame they don't make them to go all the way round the vat

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have seen some individuals that apply two kits on larger vats. On this size vat it would be overkill. Once the printer warms up the temperature stabilizes.

    • @Wildernessoutside
      @Wildernessoutside 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you get cold spots though ,where the band doesn’t touch the vat ,or is it effective enough to warm the whole vat ?

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once the vat starts to warm up, the temp balances out across the vat. When you start to print, the temp equalizes even better, since the resin is being stirred essentially.

    I've ordered a brew belt, same principle without exposed wires. I've also considered a 3 or 4 divided heat mat for plants, and fasten them to the inside of my grow tent.

      ThanK You for subscribing! I still use my heater to help warm the tent I use for my printer, then I use it to warm me. I usually am still working on things while I print to make sure it starts smoothly. Enjoy!

    Do I have to be worried about this when pouring resin out of the vat? I have a phrozen mighty 8k, and when I pour out of the vat it just goes straight down the corner I'm pouring out of. If I pour any faster it will overflow the funnel, so I'm stuck doing it like that. Will getting resin on this break it?

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have had no issues with it. The protective tape that comes with the kit keeps the band protected. My vat does the same thing, it gets on the band a little when I pour it back through my funnel as well. I really do recommend this if you need to warm up your resin. Good luck and have fun printing!

    They have a gen 2 available now, it has a magnetic quick disconnect on the vat side. Mine just arrived so I can't comment on it's function just yet.

      I saw the magnetic release, thought I would try the original one first and see how I liked it. Let me know if the magnetic release works well, would love to hear about it as well.

    The problem with their temperature strip is it goes on the heat band.

    What is the highest possible temperature with a Thermal Vat Band?

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      70 to 90 degrees fahrenheit or 21 to 32 degrees celsius (according to their website). I have found that once the printing process starts, that you will normally want to reduce the temperature of the vat band. The printing process using the uv light and the reaction of the resin heats everything up nice after a few minutes.

  • @collincutler4992

    So this only goes around 1 side of the vat? Does it not heat unevenly?

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I thought the same would be true. For a few minutes in the beginning the side with the vat band is warmer, soon after the whole vat warms up evenly. Remember this is to bring the resin up to a less viscous state. Once you begin printing, the vat band really isn't needed as much, the uv light keeps the resin fairly warm as well. I have to turn down the vat band after printing for 10 minutes or so to keep the resin from becoming too hot. Hope this helps.

      I'm guessing that the plate moving in and out of the resin will mix the heat. Only a guess though.

    Seems like the heat would relax the FEP sheet to me.

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have not had a problem with that. I keep the vat temp no warmer than it would be in the Summer, probably cooler still than it would be on a hot day.

    thx for the video, since you are using it now for a while, what's your opinion on pouring out the rest resin and making the band dirty.
    i typically have some resin that just drips down the side when getting out the rest of my resin and tbh that's my only concern i have about adding the band to my vat.

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really have not had any problems with getting the band too messy with resin. I pour the extra resin out of the corner that my vat has designed for this with the pour spout (will depend on your vat). It usually does not make much of a mess. When I do get resin on the band or the side, I just wipe it off with alcohol. They advertise on their site that the band is IPA and Resin proof. Seems to be true so far. I was wondering how my vat band would do during warmer months, it has done well. My only suggestion would be maybe pay the extra few dollars for the band that does not have the extra wire. Not a big inconvenience, but can get in the way. Hope this helps, and have fun printing!

    where can i get a enclosure like yours

    • @Original-Werks
      @Original-Werks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ordered this one on Amazon. I had a problem assembling it, one corner tore open a small amount. Did not seem to make much difference really. So there probably are better ones available. I ordered one that would fit my other 3D printer as well for double duty. This particular enclosure will fit a Creality Ender 3 V2 and has even more room to fit the PMX6K as well. Hope that answers your question, just don’t want to recommend the enclosure I had problems with.

      @@Original-Werks I made mine out of thin window insulation. it's not as handy as being able to open or unzip a door, its just a lid. I made to be as big as I needed it to be. I like it though because it's sturdy. I am looking at ways to heat the inside, and so thanks for letting me know about this idea!

      Any cover will certainly work. The vat band is a great way to heat up the resin for sure.
