I had to look up what cholera is when Madagascar barred our entry. I believe if we were to get it we would actually be ok. It’s not life threatening or that bad if you are healthy. Making a short for this evening about the awards ceremony 😊

Internet finally back after hurricane Mitch! Gave it an honest try, Finn. Just keep up the hard work. Victories are just a bit into the future. Places rarely seen from any sailing TH-camrs! I really love the carved doorways. Some much labor involved in creating just one of those. As for the cholera outbreak...plenty of fluids, aspirin, and no traveling to Madagascar. Should fix ya up in about 7 to 8 weeks, give or take. 😅 Gonna miss Hanna when she leaves. Who'll be around to keep Ivan's face out of the food?

@@TheCruisingKiwis yeah, we hunkered down through it. Slight damage to our Lanai roof, lots of tree branches down, standing water in a few places. Dad and me were pretty lucky. Other in our community weren't so lucky. It's a bit of living in the part of paradise.
I felt a little errant cheering not for my countrymen, but for the Kiwis in that race. But it was Finn that I felt loyal to, for sure. Fun to see him in total man mode, no longer the youngster... really so mature and taking on the world on his own with all the ups and downs that come with it. Well done to you all, because it really does take the whole "team" to launch a kid into adulthood.

First of all I'd like to say congradulations on winning the reward on Young Cruiser short video on rescued turtles. This video was epic. Tanzania seems like a beautiful country. And yea wow that's where Freddy Mercury from Queen was born. I don't know if this is the last video of Hanna before returning to Canada, but what a fabulous out going young Lady. And wow such a fantastic experience and journey you've allowed her to experience. I've just had my left knee replacement surgery a few days ago so I'm recouvery here at home enjoying video's. Looking forward to next video cheers. And again congrats on your reward

I love that you get to experience different cultures and see how people live in different places. I think if more people were able to do that we wouldn’t have as much xenophobia as we do in the world. People would discover that people may be culturally different around the world but they are still people at the end of the day. Thank you for allowing us to see and experience other cultures.

Nice to see you guys enjoying Zanzibar. Stone town is pretty unique hey ! Did you get to see the Sultans house with the picture of Queen Elizabeth coming to visit stonetown ? Kendwa is nice to anchor but we found Nungwi on the north the better place to get supplies and restaurants. Loved watching your vid we spend 6 months there with a bi weekly sail across to Dar for the Butcher shops meat etc

My brother lives in Madagascar. Last time he returned he was forced to swallow medicine for Cholera on arrival before being allowed in. You guys would likely experience the same if you flew there. The side effects of the medicine, like burning your stomach aren’t fun. It’s also insane to be forced to pop pills on arrival but there you go!
Haha! If only Cholera knew it would get there so much quicker on a plane… Question for Finn - as a fan of a Sauna myself - does he find it helps him with recovery at all?
Hi Bernard, I asked Finn to answer this but he is a little distracted. Finn saunas several times a week and from swears by it for recovery. He also does ice baths and red light therapy when he can.
Sorry about that very old problem in the west, but if over seas you should ken do not drink the water. There was a big outbreak in London where they found out how it started one well ground water got all the crap in it. So please stay safe and be careful.
When our friends were checking in they asked the officials about the cholera outbreak here and they laughed. If you can fly into the country but not sail then cholera ain’t the problem. Having said that we are careful with what we are drinking.
@@wendywilson9760 That sounds like my ideal way to acknowledge an anniversary, Rob may not agree. Zanzibar would have been just opening up to tourism 39 years ago. I don’t think you would recognise the place now. Although Stone town may not have changed much, the north west coast beaches are lined with hotels.
@TheCruisingKiwis we stayed in Stone Town. It was an amazing trip. 5 weeks on an Overland Truck, camping most nights. A group of 20 people. Victoria Falls was pumping with tourism. Times have changed.
You have to be somewhat jealous of the sense of community some of these cultures have. I feel that in many western countries we spend alot of time connected digitally but apart, ordering things from Amazon, posting on social media but not really forming the same level of connection that these people have.

My son went to a music festival on Zanzibar at the beginning of covid. He got dysentery (probably from unwashed fruit) and went to a clinic for treatment. The doctor gave him a shot and some pills, but also wanted to keep him overnight for observation. The doctor then negotiated the price. It started at $1000, but my son talked him down to $250. The doctor then sent 2 thugs with clubs to take my son to the ATM to get the cash!
Wow, that sounds terrifying. We’ve not come close to anything like this. I hope your son recovered well and was not put off Zanzibar by this experience.
Talking about having Ch is dangerous, other countries that you go to may have watched this and you might just have a lot more problems than you bargained for. Africa is a funny place, yes I live in Southern Africa.

I don’t know if there is one? I had to look up the symptoms. Unfortunately it is a disease of poverty. As well fed healthy people we would almost definitely be fine.
@@TheCruisingKiwis I live in South Africa and we generally get a cholera vaccine before traveling to some of the African countries and depending on where we go it is compulsory to get yellow fever as well. We have to present a certificate that we have been vaccinated against yellow fever before we are allowed back into South Africa. Different countries have different health regulations.
The S Aisian UN troops who went out to Haiti a few years back caused a major diplomatic incident as they took the Cholera bacteria 🦠 🤮🤢 with them its now sadly endemic till they can sort out the whole country.. Damn quick way to loose wt. 😬

We spent our 10th Wedding Anniversary on Zanzibar, just celebrated our 40th in Italy. We have just finished walking 607 kms on a pilgrim trail.
