    After 60 years involvement with firearms and years of experience carrying a pistol, I finely choose Hornday 9 mm or 380 that uses the FTX bullet. I like the fact that the FTX has a low probably of pass through and collateral damage down range.

      @@tomn5880 The other side of that legal attack, is the fact that if you do NOT kill, you face an even bigger legal challenge...a lying perpetrator. I'd rather defend against a bullet choice. One thing I stress to any of my students is not to use any round named 'R.I.P' or any other such 'zombie killer' names. As well as to follow your state laws to the letter.

      @@AMF96 the tests reveal they do work and are consistent but there are better choices. Most tests have proven the Federal HST is at the top as well as Winchester PDX. Speer Gold Dots are a bonded bullet with more excellent results from testing as long as you use the right barrel length and bullet weight to achieve velocities needed for expansion. Hollow points are velocity dependent for proper expansion. It is a personal decision but I use HST or Gold Dots based on extensive testing.

    One small point, the hollow point does not LOSE it's energy into the target--it IMPARTS energy--destructive force--into the target. You are right, of course, that the energy is "lost", I do see that, but it is important to understand it is loss AS it is imparted to the target.

    FMJ ' s don't dispense shock into a target in the way that a HP does ! ! !
    A HP is designed to produce SHOCK ! ! !
    It is this shock that has the effect of bursting what it penetrates ,
    That is the correlation of ENERGY and the dispensing of PRESSURE that occurs when a HP bullet mushrooms over ,
    The mushroom petals then cause a much a greater wound cavity , which produced damage to an organ ( Again referring to pressure or bursting POWER / ENERGY to a POINT ! ! ! ) , producing greater injury and wound damage
    :-:
    " UNCONTROLLABLE BLEEDING / SEVER RAPID BLOOD LOSS ! ! ! "
    A HP ROUND is intended to KILL ! ! !
    Whereas a fmj is simply outdated technology for self defense ,
    and can get you killed !

    I currently use Hornady Custom 40 S&W 180 gr. XTP (#9136) for my home defense in my Springfield XDM 3.8. I’ve been doing a lot of research, but am coming up with a lot of conflicting reports on whether hollow points are more efficient than R.I.P. bullets. What’s your take? I want to do anything I can to ensure the target I’m shooting is the only casualty. (As much as possible, that is.)

    • @cryptofunded4719
      @cryptofunded4719 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ILive2Rescue the rip look good in gel, but in real world shootings, those style/type/frangible rounds prove to fail to stop a threat fast enough. Bullets need to be able to pass through bone and fluid and still have enough penetration to get through the central nervous system. Refer back to the FBI Miami incident, a bullet passed through the shooters arm, then entered his chest, but stopped just short of the heart. It could have been the money shot if it were 147gr instead of a lighter bullet.. it sent the FBI looking for bigger calibers, but they’ve come full circle back to to 9mm. They found the handgun caliber had little to do with how the threat was stopped. More so shot placement and enough penetration.

    • @ILive2Rescue
      @ILive2Rescue 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Instructor Thank you for that info. I’ll do some research on the FBI Miami incident. In the meantime, would you say the type of bullets I’m currently using would be sufficient? Btw, I fully understand the placement of the round is the most important thing, but is there a certain type of bullet (not talking about the caliper) that “helps” stopping the threat. (As long as shot placement is accurate.)
      This actually reminds me of a good family friend who was shot with a .22 handgun once in the shoulder, but because of how it ricocheted inside of his body, actually killed him within a couple of minutes. The only reason I know that is because his brother was on the scene when it happened. Such a senseless killing too. They had been working the graveyard shift and stopped at a bar on their way home to grab a beer. All Hank (my families friend) did was literally say “hey baby” to a woman who was standing outside the bar, when unbeknownst to him, her bf was standing nearby. The bf pulled out his handgun and shot Hank. He ended up trying to drive off, crashing into the gas station across the street and stumbled out of the car. His brother, Rocky, jumped out of the passenger seat, ran to Hank’s side, and held onto Hank. All Hank said, was “I think I’m dying” and then he died. I believe that was just a “lucky shot”. I was only a teenager at the time, and always thought of .22’s not being “as deadly” as higher caliper bullets. Obviously, that taught me a lot right there. 😔

    • @cryptofunded4719
      @cryptofunded4719 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ILive2Rescue Sorry about your friend... True, any caliber will kill. It’s just lack of penetration that has proven to not kill, or not stop the threat quick enough. An ER Surgeon was who got me off of the light super fast rounds in 9mm. I only mention 9mm because that is all I carry. I sold guns and was a range master for many years and use to own all types of toys. But came back around to 9mm as my favorite. I used to hate when my co-workers would give customers false information about what calibers do, like 45acp. I’ve done lots of penetration tests, and 9mm out penetrates every handgun round we’ve tested. It was thought that over penetration puts others in danger, but you’ll have a hard time finding where in real world defensive incidents where a round passed through someone an injured an innocent bystander. The 180gr Hornady is a good round. Some threats stop because of being shot period, where being shot just takes the will to fight right out of them. Some have the will to keep fighting, even after being hit in the vitals until they shut down. Preferably, a round through the central nervous is the goal, head or spinal cord. Multiple shots center mass, and good penetration to possibly go through a threat front to back, or if that shot doesn’t present itself, a round may have to go through a limb before reaching the body cavity..

      You definitely want to function test your defensive ammo. At minimum run a box of it in whatever gun you intend to use. I like to put at least a few boxes of my defensive ammo of choice in new guns before trusting it. Don’t get caught up in what is best to use.. most modern hollow point is going to do just fine. I can’t recommend the ultra light lead free hollow points.. but even the cheap Remington umc JHP is proven to be effective. If you insist on a more premium choice.. I recommend Federal HST, federal punch, Hornady critical defense, or Speer gold dot. All proven to be effective, and are all in my inventory.

      John H Sconiers It's the Speer gold hollow point bonded ammo. I consider Speer gdhp and federal hst the top two choices plus you can get the in boxes of 50 online.

    Great video, except the red in the hollow points is to keep matter from entering and reducing the expansion upon impact.

    • @skipdreadman8765
      @skipdreadman8765 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's to prevent clothing from clogging the hollowpoint and preventing expansion. Other matter, like flesh, will cause expansion. It works well. Clothing can plug the opening of many hollowpoints and prevent them from expanding. The Hornady Critical Defense rounds consistently penetrate clothing and expand in ballistic gel. The red tip works as advertised.
      There are plenty of good gel test videos out there that show this round, and others, in action. Lucky Gunner has lots of them, as well as charts that can be used to compare different self defense rounds in various calibers.

      No. you can not shoot a 45 caliber out of a Glock 19. Glock 19 is a 9mm caliber gun.

    I know off subject matter,but I feel more confident in 9 rounds of OO-buckshot over any hollow point in any caliber from any handgun.Yes I know they can keep on going if shot is off target,but I have very little confidence in pistol caliber cartridges home defense or otherwise.

      Gregory Adkins Any smart man/woman who knew ahead of time he /she was gonna be in a gun fight would always take his rifle but a pistol is great because you can carry it unnoticed and is definitely more practical for edc unlike a rifle or shotgun. Roughly %80 of people shot with handgun live and %80 of people shot with rifles die.

      @@Cant_Stop-Wont-Stop0329 Actually your answer is not very smart. How many people get shot by a handgun vs a rifle? Most people a shot by a handgun. 2nd, most people that use a rifle actually knows how to handle it. On the other hand many people that use a handgun are criminals that have never been to a gun range to learn how to use it. Third where did you come up with that 80% bs?

    • @OldeEnglishOutfitters
      @OldeEnglishOutfitters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hornady's website states the Critical Defense was designed to "maximize the potential of a hollow point bullet." It is a hollow point with a FTX tip to help the HP to feed and expand more reliably.
