Jarvis, what I like about your reviews is that you add in all the interesting info, like the types of bone saddles for example. Very educational and useful for us guitar enthusiasts.
I love Martins. What kills me is their decision to use Richlite on their "less expensive" models. East Indian Rosewood is being carefully harvested and supply is healthy. It is not a limited resource. Even inexpensive Epiphone, Fender, Ayers, etc are using East Indian Rosewood on fretboards and bridges. As are many other less expensive guitars. I hate to say this but Martin's mgmt appears to be primarily driven by profits. Using more and more synthetic and cheaper materials, whilst maintaining or jacking up prices. I find it disgusting actually. I have never been a Taylor fan, but I respect their keeping to using ebony on fretboards and bridges on all of their guitars, regardless of series and price.
noel C. I actually like the fretboard material better then rosewood. It's smooth, doesn't wear down and never has problems. Has a great feel too. I've had mine for probably 10 years plus. Replaced saddle with FWI and the nut with WAHI when it they were still available(apparently they only ship to Georgia now?) , and end pins with bone. It sounds unbelievable now. This thing breaks in unreal and the FWI made it sound better then Martins costing twice the money. Replaced the tuners and pick guard too. Its an amazing guitar. A steal. Throw on some John Pearse 80/20 mediums and its unreal. I'll never sell this guitar ever.
