Can't recall my time with Underground but Underground 2 I remember spending a lot of my teen years in. The dumb story is something I remember quite vividly.
Same here, I like Underground that tiny bit more than Underground 2 but both are amazing! I often see people say they hate 2's story nowadays since they're not into that whole MTV era with Jackass anymore but I still love it anyways.
As the wise man once said "'Admission of ignorance is often the first step in our education", and by acknowledging your mistakes and imperfections, thus you stopped being stupid anymore! Ah... THPS2... the game that actually started the GOOD run of the series (1 was a nice proof of concept, but wasn't as good as, for example, Thrasher: Skate and Destroy). WIth manuals, better level design, EVEN MORE CONTENT... yeah, it was great. And as we talked before about that, I understand not liking time limits (as it is really stressful), I was on the same boat, but... then I've noticed how much more I give out of myself under the stress and... life was good again. If the game is built around the limits I think it can be pretty great. Still, I came to enjoy later THPS games quite a bit with their more open structure and being focused about doing tasks in the bigger world. ...and as I've said before... THUG games were pretty great! ...but they felt too... MTV/hooliganish for me. It started to be less about skateboarding itself and more about causing chaos and mayhem (which IS a part of the subculture and was present in the earlier games, but... eh, maybe I'm picky). When it comes to the gameplay (other than vehicles) they are pure kino though (and as I've said... the PSP version IS AMAZING). I'm not gonna lie, some scenarios were pretty funny to me. And Eric Sparrow is so pathetic that it is funny. Probably one of the best written villains of all time. ...vehicles were a bit of guilty pleasure for the younger me as well... but only as in novelty. Now i DESPISE them. Maybe because I like car/motorcycle games and I don't find the vehicle physics in this game too... good. I still think that perhaps 3 (or 4...?) are the PEAK of the series! Walking was a good addition - just like in real life it allowed you to set-up instead of awkwardly riding on your deck trying to jump from the right angle, failing and getting frustrated. And hey, maybe the main character is a clone or artificial human? That would explain why it can be so young (faster maturation) or so weird looking (like not having a head)! And hey, you have to give Eric credit - making others believe that HE did that McTwist over the helicopter instead of a goofy looking protagonist required a lot of editing skills! Perhaps that was his true talent instead of skating, huh. If you want a grind heaven just play Disgaea or something ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (please clap) I miss Neopets. I wanted to back to it like 4 years ago (had an account with 100 milions and nearly every collectible card), but they banned my account and didn't want to give it back.
It didn't exactly helped that I also played it on a keyboard... Maybe if I had a controller for my PC at that time already I would have vibed more with the timer! Should have just gotten it on the PS1. Shortly after I also got Lego Island Xtreme Stunts for the PC and it didn't work on it... Was nice to learn that computers have something called "system requirements" the hard way, especially when the family PC is pretty damn bad. So as a kid I always avoided paid PC games and just played on consoles till I became smart! I do think that Underground really just nails the normal skating aesthetic without drifting too much into the whole MTV era of skating, like Underground 2. Which I also love because I loved all those shows back in the day. Nowadays I sometimes still watch some clips of them uploaded on TH-cam but probably couldn't sit through a whole episode. So it hits the perfect mix between being grounded but also being a biiiit crazy here and there. And yeah, the physics of the cars are messed up, even a person like me that can't drive knows they... don't feel like that to drive! But I always thought that's what makes them feel kinda fun, how stupid they are and out of place. Maybe Eric's true calling is video production since he can edit videos THAT well, and I always liked how he actually came back in Underground 2. Getting a double humiliation from us beating him in the first AND second game. And I actually wanted to get on the Disgaea grind recently to play some games to make a retrospective about the franchise or Nippon Ichi in general, which will take a while though... I once came back to Neopets like 4 years ago and while my account was still there it was just... not the same anymore, even though it literally was the same still. Same minigames, same world maps, same everything. Was fun for that little nostalgia hit but when it faded after a few minutes I just sat there and though, damn, this is what I spent hours on back in the day?
@@Vanserchan "paid PC games" :DDDDD ...why would you do that to yourself? I thought a bit about Disgaea video... then I reminded myself how it felt to platinum Disgaea 3... laughed and scraped the idea. I'd like to remind you that there are 8 mainline games and going through all of them would... be painful for the sanity. Nippon Ichi general is also video for like...3 hours minimum. Monumental stuff. Sure, I would watch your take on it gladly, but... I also care enough for you to say that it isn't TOO great of an idea. I mean... Neopets were fun entrance into many things like collecting, gaming the system, living out of interest, investing... I miss those days. The events... the... everything. But yeah, we all probably outgrown it. I remember first event with AAA and having to get crazy scores on games I HATED.
@@Hodyna Disgaea players are all masochists anyways, so it would fit to go through all that pain to make a video about all of the games in the franchise, even more if we also included spin-offs like the Prinny games... I once wanted to make a video about Nippon Ichi's puzzle games but I sat there and thought... well... it's puzzling on a console... Not much to say and sadly had to scrap it... ; _ ; I remember those times, grinding games you didn't like and only being allowed to get cash from the games you actually liked three times a day... So you can spend it on dumb scratch tickets and camp the Neopets shelter every day in hopes of somehow getting a very rare Neopet from it...
1000000% Best story, innovated a lot of mechanics moving forward for the entire series and Eric Sparrow is one of THE BEST video game villains of all time.
my dream was to be one of those cool people who ride skateboards. then i stood on one and immediately fell off. that was the end of my dream. instead i now watch a 4'9 german with no head skateboard on youtube.

The only thing better than Underground is Underground 2.

No. The greatest game presented by Anthony Hawk is American Wasteland & I will answer no further questions.
I wish my name was Anthony sometimes...
I take it you saw the Wikipedia featured article?
I made my video before they made it today's featured article... Maybe they saw the video and did it because of that... Surely!
