I played the Xbox 360 version of this game and I actually spent too much time with the game that I was able to see the whole thing through. Completing the goals on Sick were like grand master challenges and many of them were frustratingly hard. Reaching rank 5 gets you a Pro Challenge with Tony, Rodney, and Mike V that involves an "Old School meets New School" concept. When 95% of all goals are complete on Sick, Tony tells you his history with finding Animal Chin in the '80s and you unlock the final challenge that involves doing a long combo from the Capitol to the School to the Skate Park to the Fun Park. When that challenge is complete, you reach rank 1 and unlock an extra Pro Bails video, and that's it.
I apologize for saying too much. I felt that you needed to know.

If you still have your psp 6 years later there is a mod for project 8 on psp called THPM. It's Thugpro but for psp. It's got maps from other games and since the project 8 was built on the thaw engine it has bmx and parkour as well as bert slides and nail the trick.

  • @-AK-
    @-AK- 7 ปีที่แล้ว +68

I just want to point something out for Proving Ground, in the display or control settings you can change your camera view, you can have dynamic, standard, or classic.
I honestly prefer the ps3 version of Project 8, the physics are kinda wonky (thank god proving ground smoothes everything out) but It's fun once you figure it out.
Fun fact: The Ps3/360 version of Project 8 was developed on the guitar hero 3 engine.

    • @ceeso2002
      @ceeso2002 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

AK are you saying that just cause neversoft? Honestly, I've seen GH3 and Project 8 (PS3/360) and both engines don't look the same

Project 8 was fun for me. I loved the maps, gaps, flips, new manual control, the challenges, the slow-mo mode, the stalls, and marker that allows you to spawn where you set it. I also love how easy it was to find mind blowing gaps that seem to work. PS I play the PSP version with an emulator on my Mac. It’s a blast.

On the topic of the goals RadRatVideo, I was able to achieve 100% on the PS3 Version after months of effort. The difficulty expressed here is exactly what it is, I literally had to exploit a glitch to beat one goal in particular (Bowling In Downtown). Best tony hawk games are when they’re wild and not realistic at all, for example: underground 1 & 2 and American wasteland... for realistic games, they make more sense with games like skate and session.

I really enjoy your videos, it's great to have the perspective from a skater. I liked P8, but it definitely wasn't one of my favourite games. The story wasn't very compelling and the framerate issues on the 360 were always really annoying. The physics were also just okay, slightly improved in PG, but never as good as in Skate. I was really hyped for Project 8, got it on PS2, and it sucked. On Xbox360 it was fun, but then EA released SKATE, and it was game over.

This game made me sick too, I swear it's the camera swinging the left and right when turning is what does it for me, the PSP version doesn't make me feel that way though lol

Actually. the PS3 version is better in graphics but lacks Online like 360. original xbox version is great for what it is. the PS3/360 Version adds Havok Ragdoll Physics. Shaba games was part of the main development of the last gen versions (includiing PSP) while neversoft did the 360/PS3 versions. an update to the 360 version caused frames to be capped to 30FPS due to online server issues. also no Custom soundtracks on PS3.

Been playing it on the ps3 emulator recently and having a blast. It's a much better game when it runs in 60fps lol. Still has those fat frame dips, but its playable and brings me back

That sounds like a far more pleasant experience. The frame rate is probably one of the roughest things about this game on 360/PS3

Make sure you don't move the sticks when the board is at an awkward angle and you can only land in one way
I think the board has a green aura when it's good to flip/land

It's always confused me that you say getting off the board is different on the Original Xbox version when that's the black button in every game it appears in, including this one. Plus I get hint boxes all the time telling me how to get off the board when I play.

As someone who grew up playing all the Tony Hawk games prior to Project 8, I couldn't stand it. It just was...a bad game, for me anyway,
I even tried playing it years later after not playing Tony Hawk games for a long time, and I couldn't get into it.

As much as I do respect your opinion and you have a lot of good points I will say from a gamer standpoint, and not an actual skateboarders...Project 8 was the last good Tony Hawk game, and at least at the time it had me really excited to see the first truly "next gen" Tony Hawk game.

I started not liking the games when they went away from the arcade style and went heavy on story. Like why’s a game like this need a story what made the first 4 games so fun it was just arcade style fun collect skate collect tapes and hit massive combos unlock secret areas. It was simple but fun and addicting and the multiplayer was a blast with friends.

Yeah I was just playing this on 360 yesterday for the first time in probably a decade, and it's one of those times where the nostalgia just doesn't line up with the way it feels to play these days. I can easily enjoy going back to a lot of 360 games these days, but this one was rough, that frame rate is just such an issue. Think I might pick this up on Xbox or PS2 if I give it another go, that version definitely looks like it fixes the issues I had with the 360 version, which he does a good job of explaining.
