Installing Yamaha XS1100 Carburetors

I'm replacing an aftermarket carb with the rebuilt original carburetors... and I need to run new fuel lines and install fuel filters. Did my way work?

The top to Tees on the carbs are for overflow and are usually hooked to the airbox. Bottom ones are for fuel. There's also supposed to be a vacuum controlled fuel valve your missing.

I’m trying to retain original airbox on my 79 Special but with the maze of fuel lines and vacuum lines i just can’t get them hooked up without kinks. Adding filters will only exasperate the problem. I like your fuel line from petcock to petcock with tees to the carbs. My question is what about the lines from the fuel pump? Can I make a 4 way to include lines from the pump?

The fuel line "Octopus" is only applicable to the specials and not the standard. You are working on a standard. By now, pretty sure you've figured that out.

I hope I'm not the first to mention this, but the two short hoses that the guy that rebuilt your carbs has coming out the top of the carb bank, are not gas lines - they actually go onto your airbox. I'm afraid if you use them for gas lines you will flood your carb bowls, as there is no shutoff mechanism. Only the fuel lines that are located just above and between your carb bowls are regulated by the floats and neddles and seats...

Thanks but I'm not sure I follow. The 2 lighter gray hoses on the orig carb (that replaced the 2 aftermarket carbs) are not for fuel? They both run down between carbs 2 & 3 and are between those float bowls.

Where would you get carbs? Do you trust Ebay carbs?

That’s a good question. My 1100s have always come with carbs. eBay is an option but don’t expect them to be in working order. But do a google search for “Yamaha xs1100 carbs” - you’re looking for any site that sells mikuni carbs for your model. Most seem to be outside of the U.S.

did you go from stock airbox to pods? Did you get new jets for the pods?

When I bought the bike, it had pods on it. I replaced the cheap pods with the K&Ns. For the rebuilt carb, I let the rebuilder know it had pods and a 4-in-1 exhaust, so he jetted it for me.

Thank you for the video. I was rebuilding my own xs11 and I can’t remember where this hose goes at 15:20 you can see it. It runs up from the Yamaha logo on the bottom of the motor to somewhere on the carb. Any chance you could point me in the right direction?

That is the vacuum advance hose. It goes into a small port, on the same side of the bike, on carb 2. Hope that helps! If not, let me know. Thanks for watching!

I don't know the brand name. The exhaust came with the bike from the original owner. But it's a 4-in-1 setup.

Never rev the bike when its warming up. Under 60 degrees you need full choke. Let run till it hits 2k rpm then half choke.. let it run til 2500rpm. Then no choke shes warmed up. Give it a try...! anything 60 degrees and above you only need half choke.
