This game had it all,high difficulty > great visuals > good gameplay > decent story...yet it didn't spawned another sequel,why?
It definitely deserved a sequel,it's right there with Shinobi from Sega Genesis and Ninja Gaiden on NES in terms of greatness.

Fun Fact: The blockbuster exclusivity that this game is "known for" is just a myth made up by collectors in a pathetic attempt to artificially increase the price of the game.

Since Hudson Soft is a part of Konami, a good idea would be if they would publish a 3D remake of this game and hire From Software, for its development. But who am I kidding? Konami doesn't give a shit about video games, anymore.

The combination of the old Japanese setting combined with futuristic high technology leads to an interesting aesthetic and boss design. I'm getting Zeiram the animation vibes here.
Not to mention Japanese folklore monsters fused with HR Geiger style imagery as well. Absolutely awesome.
Zeiran, Hangane and Onimusha are made by the same artist, a guy called Keita Amamya if I'm not mistaken.

temarishi I know final bosses should always be refined experiences that test you're skills while also being a satisfying and fun experience. Not a giant platform section where you hit stuff.
This, Cybernator, and Super Turrican are the type of cool games you will miss out if you are joining the Snes classic price gouging war

This game is more than 20 years old, this is what a retro game looks like. I goddamn hate indie developers that try to pass crappy graphics as "Retro graphics", the people who worked on old games had very little to work on and because of that they worked their damndest to make all of those 16 bits shine and make those chiptunes sing, modern indie developers have more power and tools on their iphones that an entire team of developers had in the 80s and 90, they have no excuse.

games like this are like a form or art, excellent graphics for their time, a great soundtrack, a solid gameplay, thats why we are always returning to play those games, because they are so well done that theyre timeless :)
That is not the worst part, those crappy graphics indies often weigh more than 400 Mb.
Hagane weight is 2 Mb.
Putting an excellent game, with rock-solid gameplay, amazing graphics and epic soundtrack into merely 2 Mb is more than art.
Mind you, some people make their pixel art-styles work. Cave Story's a great example.
But the good ones aside, you're right. They have no excuse.

There are both good and bad retro and indie games, in many aspects. Graphics, gameplay, story and music for example. Your comparison is simply unfair. You are ignoring the bad retro games and the good indie games. You see how that makes you look like a jerk? I personally love both retro and indie games because I have enough intelligence to understand that both categories have good games.

Final boss has a nice beat to its explosions. Good rythm
'Two Platforms' best names of them all, and let's not forget 'Giant Punching Toad', or Ghost Jedi from barnyard blast. These names are amazing.

I could only make it past the 4th boss on this list, and even there I remember having a lot of trouble. This game is hard as fuck but you make all the bosses look insanely easy
and technically it was not the 5th boss that finished me but the stage before the boss. I am thankful modern games (mostly) do not have insta death falls anymore. Insta death is not fun, it just makes you want to stop playing
There is something about SNES music that makes it quickly recognizable, the music has this bizarre "muffled" sound found in most games
This game has a cool style
this is like a precursor to Strider series, traditional Japanese themes mixed with futuristic settings
