    You guys are adorable, I can hear the excitement in your voices, and the way you tease each other, have so much fun and genuinely enjoy each other's company is a pleasure and rarity to see (for me). This vid is very handy, I am about to go on my first HAL cruise. Lots of love from this fellow Brit. x

    In Canada, bread dipped in whipped egg and milk and then pan fried is called French Toast. We also have the Monte Cristo sandwhich which is made with ham and swiss or Gruyere cheese (many restaurants also include turkey) dipped in egg and deep fried or pan fried. It is sometimes sprinkled with powdered sugar.

    • @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel
      @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh right, would enjoy the turkey not sure about the powdered sugar though! 😃

    I'm happy to hear that the bands are good. I'll soon be traveling with my mother on the Koningsdam to Hawaii. I'm quite easily entertained, but I did think that HAL kind of put all of their eggs into one basket with the music walk. Typically, on a cruise, the shows are where its at, and the bands are more or less just ambiance in various areas of the ship, or after hours dancing. I hope that our bands are as engaging as the ones that you two had.

    I just absolutely LOVE the lighting and vibe of your suite. For some reason it gives a feel of being on a smaller vessel, or something not exactly a full on commercial cruise ship. Unless I win the lottery, not something I'm ever likely to do myself, but as always, I'll watch any vid you two put out just because I enjoy your travels and humo(u)r! I even pause for the menus and pick out what I'd be eating. That is SO COOL they have Beecher's cheese on the ship! I worked in Bellingham WA for a time, just north of Seattle, and the Smoked Flagship is my favorite cheese ever. Very cool they are using that somewhat local ingredient there on the ship. If you ever get to Seattle be sure to stop there. It's at Pike Place market. Best mac and cheese you'll ever eat in your life. They make it right there and you can watch. Whenever I get that way (it's actually stocked in most PNW grocery stores too) I always stock up and bring it home in my carry on, then eat way too much cheese for a couple of weeks lol I keep coming back to edit because I see something else...what unique and interesting offerings on that brunch menu. Gives me a whole slew of ideas to cook myself. Lemon curd on blueberry pancakes..why have I never thought of that? It's SO fun watching you two run into American things that I actually know about, given what a huge fan of England I am, and how much I've enjoyed discovering things about YOUR country.

And sure enough Ven (Koningsdam’s chief florist, and former florist to the king of Saudi Arabia) had a sign up list. For $40USD you got a group class the following day with about a dozen people. He had vases and flowers all set out for each of us, and led us through making two gorgeous arrangements (one average size, one huge…like it took over half the desk in my cabin) that lasted through the rest of our cruise. A great way to get flowers for your cabin at an extremely reasonable price, and two vases to take home!

    I love you guys. Juneau was named after a French Canadian prospector, Joe Juneau, so I feel fairly confident in saying that he probably pronounced his name Ju-NO. Have only travelled with HA twice. The only pleasurable experiences were some great places visited and some nice people met. The food was dreadful on both especially in the cafeteria upstairs, and the service equally bad and, on occasions, downright disgraceful. Travelling as a solo on the first one it was clear that, unlike the evidence on your daily programme of a solo meet, we were not wanted and no effort was made to accommodate us. It would appear that things might have improved if your vlogs are anything to go by but whether it has improved for steerage class would be interesting to see. You visited a beautiful part of the work and I am looking forward to watching the next episode as I continue to be green with envy.

      @@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel perhaps it was the indifference to solo travellers that didn’t help on the first cruise. That, and the segregation of the Dutch contingent who boarded in Rotterdam before the Brits in Southampton along with crew preferential treatment of the Dutch (there weren’t enough who wanted to board in Rotterdam so HA came into Southampton for the first time). However, it is obvious that you had a great time…it helps when there are two of you.

      @@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel It may have a connection. I looked up the origin and the sandwich was first served in Paris in 1910 as ‘Croque Monsieur’. Later in the States it was in cookbooks, then restaurants, as the Monte Cristo sandwich.

    • @DenaInWyo
      @DenaInWyo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@susanr.562 Maybe kind of related, but croque monsieur/madame are very different! The only egg involved there is if it's a madame, then it goes on top as the "hat" for the madame! Croque monsieur is, basically, a grilled ham and gruyere topped with bechamel that is then broiled. They're still popular in Europe, in London at least where I first had one and noted it on several menus. The name literally means "Mr. Crunchy." I do a cheeky little cheat on mine that makes them far from authentic but so much better and use one of the other classic French sauces: hollandaise. So much tastier! Monte cristos are great when done well, but holy moly they can be done badly and come out dripping with grease! It's actually frequently deep fried. Ham, swiss, jam sandwich, dipped in an egg batter then done in the deep fryer.

    We just got back from Vancouver to the Hawaiian islands back to Vancouver on the same ship. Our experience was not great it was full of smoke. we are extremely disappointed, the smoke caused a lot of health problems headache sore eyes and sore throat here in Canada smoke is a health byelaw. To enjoy all the entertainment, including the world stage and shopping you were bombarded with smoke from the casino. They did not put a lot of thought to the design at the ship will start with the world stage. You’re sitting there the two entrances up above or right next to the casino. They had 2 set a lovely glass doors that are open at all times so the smoke filters down from the casino. . Now you’re downstairs where all the entertainment is BB Kings Rolling Stones in billboard there’s a lovely staircase in the centre right above there is the casino doors are wide open. All the smoke comes drifting down and then you have upstairs and the second level of BB Kings, where the shopping is ‘s. There is a door there for the casino, and the smoke comes rumbling through, very disappointed. We paid a lot of money for this cruise and that was an inside cabin will not be travelling on this line again due to this. I have complained if you’re not a casino person you you don’t get any perks you pay a lot of money and did I mention this was the first time cruising. Food was good, and the little bit of entertainment that we did do was excellent. I feel this ship caters to casino people only.
