I started going on HAL in my early 30's. I've been on 6 of their cruises and love them. More laid back, less people, smaller ships, great food, and amazing entertainment. I will be going on more cruises with them for sure!

We did a similar itinerary on the Norwegian Encore this summer and we're unlucky with weather so all of our excursions were cancelled so we're going back next summer on the Koningsdam and will hopefully have better luck! We sail with our young kids and know HAL isn't super kid-friendly but I'm sure we'll have a magical time. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I LOVE your hair! I know you are growing it out, but I kept my hair that short for the whole length of my career as an RN. Just easier to deal with. Now retired, I grew it back out. I love following you two on your adventures.
Love HAL. Paid $349pp to upgrade to a suite for a 12 day medditeranian cruise. The low cost made it all that much more glorious! I usually do the obstructed view balcony. The price is right and the lifeboat doesn't really block much of scenery. Can't wait for more of Alaska and your fresh air fueled enthusiasm!

I was on the Koningsdam in May to Alaska. We had an Aft corner Neptune Suite with wrap around balcony we loved the space the suite had. We also loved everything about the Koningsdam. And Alaska.
Have thought about aft Neptune suite. Booked Panama Canal for February while onboard our last cruise. They were already booked. Was it noisy or did your balcony get wet from wash down? I’ve heard these two items happen on aft staterooms. We love HAL and got hooked on the Neptune suites and won’t downgrade suites.
I was on the Konigsdam in early May on an Alaska voyage. The boarding queue took the better part of 3.5 hours, and everybody was cranky by the time we all boarded. Loved the lido pool deck. And the food on that voyage was probably the best I've ever had. I was particularly impressed with the food in the MDR. Breakfast was amazing, and dinner service never disappointed. The buffet was absolutely MOBBED for every single meal, so I didn't spend much time there. The cake program in the Lido buffet was complete chaos. Sel de Mer was absolutely wonderful, and there were very few people who took advantage of it. The Grand Dutch Cafe didn't impress me as much as I was hoping it would. Personally, I'm more partial to Princess' International Cafe. The spa was wonderful, except when it got crowded. Then it was just like being on the pool deck! Enjoyed the huge whirlpool tub in the spa during a couple of days when the sea was rough. Shoulda brought my surfboard. The shows were very very good... I think overall, my experience with HAL was good, but for Alaska my personal preference leans toward Norwegian's Encore ship. The MDR food is nowhere near as good as HAL, but their buffet is great, and the overall programming of the ship seems to lend itself to spreading people out. I felt the Konigsdam made people bunch up in clusters too much, it was overwhelming. Great video you guys!!! I'm so glad you had a wonderful time.

I don't know, once we started getting balconies we only went back once to an outside to save money and we regretted it. It may depend on how much time you spend in your room.

I understand....trust me, I'm Canadian there are lines and redundancies EVERYWHERE not just when boarding a ship...just be glad you made it on the ship on time to get the heck outta there.
One cabin storage that always gets missed in reviews are the two large drawers at the front of the bed. We each had a nice deep drawer to store all our pants.
The wife and I took a cruise to Alaska in August from Vancouver. We actually live downtown there, just a quick taxi ride from Canada Place. It was so easy to get there, and yes there was a long line up, so go early. Otherwise it was easy peasy. Coming back we were off the boat and home in about 20 minutes. They didn't even check our arrive Can, just passport. Straight through and took a waiting taxi, so stress free!
We just got off the Koningsdam! Loved the ship and crew! Did you find the two drawers under the foot of the bed? They were perfect storage for our hiking boots, warm weather clothes, and other bulky items.
If you can go to dog sledding training camp in Ketchikan or Juneau! It is fun and awesome to experience being pulled by the dogs and then holding puppies!
HAL has great afternoon teas and once during the cruise there is a special Indonesian Tea. Highly recommend you try it. We spent 42 days in Alaska on HAL, three 14 back to back. We really got a chance to experience Alaska.

Great video. We've been sailing on Princess, but their ships are getting too big for us. More than 3,000 passengers is too much when you need to take a tender to go ashore. HAL is in the same price range with 30% fewer passengers and what appears to be similar amenities.

Nothing better than a shower for two. Regarding the poached eggs, the last Norwegian had Eggs Benedict on the buffet. Just about as good as in the main dining room.

It was a fantastic double rainbow as we were leaving Geiranger Fjord on Rotterdam when we were in Canaletto! Food was good too.
